    The Gym...

I’m crazy intimidated by the gym. That said, I made a commitment by having surgery and I’m going to stick to it. At 6 weeks post-op, I hired a personal trainer. I knew squat about exercising and didn’t want to embarrass myself around other people. I cannot tell you how beneficial it’s been. I’m learning at my own pace and I feel comfortable in a one-on-one setting. Strength training two times a week and walking the rest of the week at a local park.

    TMI question re. vomiting

I’m roughly 8 weeks post-op. My vitamins made me vomit quite a bit the first few weeks. In my experience, it was totally different from what I was used to in regards to being sick and throwing up. After surgery, I honestly feel like a baby who has just spit up. No dry heaving. No nausea. No one at work never knew the few times it did happen.

    Feeling Lostttt

As far as payments, that’s going to depend on your surgeon’s office policies. For reference, mine wouldn’t accept payments. They wanted full payment the Friday before my surgery. Luckily my insurance covered everything so I didn’t owe a penny. Contact your office and they will let you know their expectations. For the approval process, my office scheduled my surgery a week and half out from when I completed all of my clearances then submitted all the paperwork to my insurance for approval. I had a pre-op class that Friday where I bloodwork done. Got approval from insurance that Monday and had surgery Wednesday. I definitely thought I’d have more time to mentally prepare for surgery. I had no idea that I’d be having surgery 10 days after I completed clearances. Again, this is all very surgeon specific.

    Feeling Pretty Good

@Avery’s Mom I use an app called Baritastic to log my measurements & weight. You can add progress photos too!
  5. I’ve been pretty discouraged by my lack of weight loss following gastric sleeve surgery. I’m just shy of being three weeks out and have only lost 9lbs despite following the program exactly as instructed. Took my measurements today and I have to say this lifted my spirits. I may only be down 9lbs but I’ve lost 27 inches total! Absolutely incredible. I’ve never been able to accomplish this before in my life with all the yo yo dieting I put myself through. If there’s anyone out there feeling disappointed with your journey, don’t give up hope! Thought I’d share and hopefully lift someone else’s spirits too.

    Time off work

Down 8lbs since surgery and 22lbs total since pre op diet. I picked up 4lbs coming out of surgery from all the liquids and swelling. Don’t be alarmed if this happens. It came right back off. Liquids were a struggle the first two days. My stomach felt like it couldn’t fit it all in. Using a 32 oz Nalgene water bottle now that has tick marks at every 2 oz. I find it easier to get it all down when I can see exactly where I’m at and how much I have to go. Still no hunger.. yayy! Wishing you the best of luck!

    Time off work

I did. I had my sleeve done on a Wednesday (2/20) and went back to work that Monday (2/25). Pain was tolerable. No nausea. I was (and still am) crazy tired. I have a cushy office job so there is nothing I could over exert myself on i.e. lifting. I just shut the door to my office when I’m feeling tired so coworkers leave me alone. Like you, I did not tell anyone what I actually had done. My coworkers are great but I don’t believe they should know my personal business. Said I was having my gallbladder removed. No one was any wiser. 12 days post op and doing great.

    Vomiting Vitamins

    Thanks! Worth a shot!
  10. Having a hard time keeping my vitamins down. I take the chewable BariActiv iron and multi-vitamin supplements mid morning after my snack (I take the calcium by itself later in the day with no issues). I’ve thrown them up 3 times so far this week. I don’t feel nauseous at all. Just get the urge to vomit about a minute after taking them and then I feel fine once I’ve done the deed. I’m 8 days post op and still on liquids. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions on keeping those suckers down?
  11. Maybe it’s too soon to start worrying but I can’t help but feel disappointed. I started my liquid diet last Monday (2/18) and was sleeved last Wednesday (2/20) and have only lost 4lbs. I’m 5’4”, started at 235lbs (40 BMI) and 6 days post op only 231lbs. I get 64oz of liquids in, I eat anywhere from 60-80 grams of protein, keeping my calories around 500, and started walking the day I came home from surgery. What gives?! Am I being too hard on myself? Am I doing something wrong? I keep reading everyone’s success stories and it makes me feel so disappointed. Any advice?
  12. Hi everyone! Long time lurker here. Just had my gastric sleeve done on 2/20 and I was wondering how long your bellies stayed bloated and swollen? The pain is manageable but I cannot wait for this bloating to go away. I didn’t carry a whole lot of weight in my stomach to begin with and now I look like I’m 8 months pregnant. I realize it’s probably from the gas and swelling. Following instructions to the T; walk, sip, protein, vitamins, repeat. Just curious of everyone’s experience. 3 days post op and hoping it goes down soon!
