amandamellor18 got a reaction from jasmineinmymind in I am having surgery in 3 weeks and would love some reassurance
I too, watched A LOT of YouTube videos and vlogs. And you are right many folks out there had problems. I actually expected some of these things to happen to me.
Nope. Not a one. If I eat too fast it is uncomfortable until it get down the pipe, lol.
I’m just guessing but I think we hear about the problems more and less about successes.
    BTW I had the sleeve on May 30, 2018 and I’m 50.
You trust your surgeon which is great - I know there are many rules with food and measuring food and Vitamins and timing and amounts of Water, but you will get the hang of it in no time.
Plan your meals, take Snacks when you leave the house, log your food with any of the many apps out there. More Protein and less carbs and do your very best to eat food that is fresh and good for you ( I eat fish about 3 + days a week.
I wish you great success - you can do this!!

I don’t take many pics of myself but over lost 118 pounds in a year. The first pic is a week or so after surgery and the second is a few weeks ago. It’s changed my life.

I'm sorry that you are so down. My surgeon and his team were awesome, so fear not : most weight loss takes place in the first 12 to 18 months after surgery - and who's to say it wont continue?? all the advice about logging your food, measuring your servings and getting in enough Protein are all keys to success. There is time to tweak your habits and figure out the right plan for you.
The best part is that you have lost weight, you didn't gain!! Slow and steady wins the race
    Best of luck to you

I have told coworkers and family but I’m hiding from everyone that I’m getting surgery in Mexico. When I initially told them everyone was against it, then I said I’m getting it in San Diego now everyone ok. I don’t like lying I just want them to support my choice and trust that I did all the research

Such a loss - I am so very sorry. I have a 13 yo and teenage life these days is perplexing and frightening. My heart hurts for you and your family and your grandson's friends. I can't imagine saying anything that could help you feel better . I will keep all of you in my prayers to deal with your loss the best you know how and start to heal when you are ready

I don't think age has effected me at all. I have lost 70 lbs in less than 7 months. I started at a lower BMI too. MINDSET is everything.

thats wonderful!! I will admit my exercise column needs a lot of work. My skin situation is odd - not sure what I expected but I’m kind of looking like my 84 yo mother, lol.
But I don’t care! I feel amazing and have energy like I did in my 30’s.
I clearly was in denial about my appearance because people that I haven’t seen in a while are letting me know I looked like a different person.
I wish you the very best on your Quest. Maybe we can stay in touch and root each other on?

I was 220 on Dec 13, 2018 when I had my surgery. I just turned 55 yesterday. I’ve lost 20 lbs. I’m hoping for a 70-80 Ib loss. Congrats on your weight loss.

My nutrition person at the surgeon’s office said don’t buy the Russel Stover SF candy - I did it anyway and it was good!! Had to hide them in the freezer from myself so I couldn’t eat them all at one time. And popcorn - snuck some into the movies , the 100 calorie bag - totally worth it.
PS I really, really miss red licorice. I want to but better not, might start something that I can’t control : (

    I’m 50, I was 5’2 and 220, I’m 141 and still 5’2,lol
You can do this!! Don’t let his crap keep you from feeling better about yourself.
Life is really great on the other side. I was lucky that I had no complications. My meals taste great, they’re much smaller but so much better for me.
I wish you the best of luck and I hope your husband comes around on the idea.
You deserve this and your husband should support you as you supported him, but if he doesn’t, you take care of you ❣️

Drop 150-whatever pounds overnight by dropping the husband!
It amazes me how unsupportive some partners can be. How can you look the person you supposedly love in the eye and tell them that they are going to fail at something they want to do?
My hope is that you find some people who truly support and love you in this upcoming year!

After suffering for 12 years with a horrible band experience, I was sleeved in May 2018. I started the process in Jan 2018. By the time my May 17th surgery/revision date came, I’d struggled down to a 30 BMI. My husb of not quite 2 years kept asking if I really needed the revision. Regularly suggested maybe they should just remove the band and get out. He never knew me at 260lbs. He never saw me bigger than the 209 I blossomed to after our marriage (so I knew his questions were innocent in nature).
Your husband sounds a bit different. It’s understandable. It’s a frightening time for him. He’s about to have his life change too. The woman he’s married to is about to transform. You will! Completely and totally. In so many ways. He knows this. Can you imagine how he feels? Don’t let him shake you, though. Have empathy but keep YOUR compass straight!
As far as age goes, i’m 54 now. I was almost at the mid-point of 53 when I had surgery. It’s been a breeze. Age means nothing. Your lower BMI will be helpful. I was at goal quickly. I am well below what I ever imagined.
Even with a 3.8 pound holiday gain, i’m Right in the middle of the recommended weight for my height. My surgeon said if I wanted to gain a few more he’s fine with it. If I want to maintain this, perfect. He doesn’t recommend losing anymore. Think about that!!! It has been 20 years since a doctor told me they don’t recommend I lose another pound!
THIS COULD SO EASILY BE YOU IN SEVERAL MONTHS!
    ❤️👍🏻🤷🏼‍♀️

He's worried about losing an "eating/feeding partner" and also worried about how your new life will affect him. The End. Fu*k him! LOL. You do you. Many of us on here are 50+ and have done so well (and feel younger and like we have a younger life back).
Only you know what's going to work for you. But I will tell you this...it's hard work. For some of us, it's hard work. Nothin easy or short cut about it. The tool is only a tool. Someone described this surgery as a nail. A nail does nothing by itself. It just lays there and is a nail. But if you apply action and force (pounding), then it does amazing work and fortifies and strengthens.
This isn't magic bean surgery. IT will not make you magically dissolve to a tiny weight. You have to change your lifestyle and your food choices if you want to lose it and keep it off. If you honestly aren't ready for that change? Then in my opinion, you ARE wasting your time, money, and 80% of your tummy, and your golden shot. There's only 1 golden shot. You have to want it like there is no tomorrow.
