I did not have a problem with obesity until getting pregnant with my boys, and then one at a time I gained weight. I was still active and exercised, but over the last two years I have not been able to lose the weight and my knees and back because of the weight had caused me not to be able to exercise or enjoy the things I like.  My grandmother passed away in 1999 at the age of 69 from obesity related Diseases.  My mother who was also obese decided to have gastric bypass in 2001, she lost 90lbs and has kept it off all this time.  My decision was to have surgery was one because I want to be able to go shopping without being in pain and two my blood pressure has begun to creep up and I do not want to wait for any major problems to have the surgery.  I am looking forward to gardening, and taking long walks with my puppies again.
