I totally disagree with there being a self imposed stigma. I didn’t tell people, not because I was/am embarrassed, but because it’s my business. Each person needs to do what’s right for them. Some people like telling others, some are more private, some might actually be embarrassed and that’s ok. There is no RIGHT way to have WLS

I realize there are different schools of thought on whether to tell or not to tell. Each person feels differently given their personality, family, friends, life events etc. Regardless it all comes down to respect. Respect for others' decisions and respect for ourselves. We are all fabulous! [emoji8]

To each it’s own honestly. I tell ppl about my upcoming surgery. I feel like some people are nosey and some people really are looking for the courage to start their own journey. I am not ashamed whatsoever. This decision takes courage and it isn’t easy. If I can help someone else struggling with their weight I’m all for it. If they just want to be in my business be my guest. Either way I’m healthy & fabulous.

I have realized when you are overweight, people find it difficult to tell the difference. For instance, I had my surgery on January 31st and I have lost 40lbs since pre-surgery diet. My father made a comment about how he couldn't tell at all. He can only tell my face looks smaller. So I showed him a before picture and he was like WOW. I have a cousin who made similar comment. I think it has to be drastic for people to notice. But you know what counts? I notice. I can fit into my old clothes. I have clothes in all sizes and it makes me feel better. Stay positive! Take measurements. That helps.

oh my gosh ya'll are too cute.

for me clothes are longer cause the boobs and belly are smaller. I can see my feet, I had to order smaller band for my fitibit, and new running shoes. and new bra and panties since mine kept creeping down under my bootie when I walked

Ha! I was hanging out my hummingbird feeders today and have to lean way over the deck railing to get them on the hooks. Has always been so hard to reach the hook. But today - no problem - just leaned over and hung them up! No big belly in the way! I also found myself squeezing my belly to get past a tight spot in the grocery store yesterday. It wasn't necessary - just a habit, because I was able to slip right through. The down side...… I lost my "shelf" for drinks while sitting in the recliner.

re: rings, I highly recommend these spiral ring sizers until you reach your ultimate size. That way you can wear the rings and not get them resized until the end.

my glasses are also too big (I've had to start wearing my spare pair, which are tighter), and my pants too long. My wrinkles are definitely starting to show now that my face skin isn't as tight. My cross-body purse hangs lower on my body. The seatbelt in my car no longer scratches the bottom of my neck - it sits lower where it is supposed to. And a ton of other things.

Love it! Congrats op post op and your weight loss.
Funny the things we notice with weight loss. My shoe size went down. I had to get my wedding rings resized.

I'm a month and a half post op and have lost 45 lbs so far (since starting pre op diet). I've noticed a few unexpected things... All my clothes are longer, my eye glasses are loose now and my necklaces hang lower 😂 Has anyone else noticed this or any other unexpected results?

Yes, we call these NSV's - Non-Scale Victories. Mine include necklaces fitting around my neck that didn't fit before, my watch isn't cutting off my circulation, and I can see my toes!

That's great. I am going on a cruise in November and have been worried. Mostly because in the past I have eaten a gluttonous amount, but I am glad you showed it cruising can be done with the right choices. You look great too! Thanks for the inspo!

Congrats! I’ve got one cruise scheduled next month, before surgery, and one in September. I’ve been wondering how I would handle the one in September. You’ve inspired me by your success and that you still enjoyed it. Great picture!

    I'm so excited!
I'm about 12 weeks post-op gastric sleeve and I was worried about my pre-planned two week cruise and how I would manage to eat and stay on the right track. I was so good! I didn't eat a single dessert or Pasta or pizza. I had a cheese omelette every morning for Breakfast, salmon for dinner every night and various things for lunch but all making good choices.
I just got back late last night and weighed this morning and I lost 2.5 pounds during my two-week cruise! Hooray! I exercised in the pool every morning and did lots of walking and stayed hydrated.
I'm just so excited that I made good choices around all that ton of food on the cruise ship and still ended up losing weight! Hooray! Yippee!
Here's a photo of me from the cruise - I've lost 25 pounds since surgery 12/11/18.

Congratulations!! "Don't get comfortable " is my only advice. You have to keep exercising and eating right to keep it off. I am almost 4 years out. As the years pass you will be able to eat more (not alot), get taste for sweets and fast food. Keep it in check. The hard part begins after the weight loss.

    Congrats!

belinda7 reacted to JaDa1972 in Was there a pivotal moment that made you say I’m doing this?
It was 2 things that happened within a week of each other. I work on the fifth floor and we had an emergency drill which I had to go down 5 flights of stairs ( I actually thought about staying behind on the 3rd floor and hope no one would notice). All I could think about was if this was a real fire not only would my life be in danger but anyone trying to help me would be in danger because of my weight! The following week (December 2018) I had to go to my daughters college graduation for her bachelors degree . It was an indoor stadium and I could not fit in the seat. I had to squeeze myself side ways, half hanging out of the chair and praying that the seat didn't break. I was in so much pain by the time my daughter got her diploma that the tears were for my pinched legs and not so much for the special moment and I was so glad when it was over! I promised myself in that parking lot after taking the most horrible pictures that by the next year for her last graduation I will fit in the seat!

Hopefully bringing back this thread because I enjoyed reading through it so much! At almost 10 months out, I've lost 100 pounds and have another 20 to go! My latest non-scale victories:
-Had to get my license photo retaken at the DMV because airport security at DFW airport would not let me through as they did not believe I was the same woman on my license!
    -Bought size 2 jeans
-My skin has been significantly clearer
-Can now share clothes with my 11-year-old sister 😂

Hope to read about all the amazing things you guys are doing!
    Best wishes to all

    Greetings community,
I had VSG on Jan 7. I am doing ok with the food, but I am irritable and very tired. I started going to the gym and over did it. Had a lot of pain so now I'm back to walking. Reading the blogs helped me realize that I was expecting too much of myself and to just listen to my body.

Ask Ellie123, or Matt Z , who went from lap-band to RnY, there are Many Many that went that route, Ellie123, if you can find her home or answering , she is back at work and traveling Europe a whole, lot, had all 3, happy happy happy with her bypass but it WASNT ALWAYS SO! One of the people with a more bumpy recovery than me, mine sways and is as bumpy as a cheap worn-out wood rollercoaster, but what the hey! Beats being obese and dead all hollow! Hasn't killed me yet, getting used to eating like a depressed earthworm, but I still look forward to purees, softs, my shoes and on to REAL food, even though I will engulf FOOD no more, I'll eat like a refined LADY instead of a Demented Tasmanian Devil, afraid I will miss something tasty in the Road!🚧⚠🚘NO MORE ROADKILL ETC. Sniff sniff! I'll make it yet to sane diet and a smooth life!
