I had the sleeve and I didn’t have a drain either. Don’t think it’s as common to have to have one placed.

I can relate! I have been off of this forum for a year but really should have stuck with it. I kept the weight off until March when my husband got COVID but then I ate every cookie and every chocolate bar I could get my hands on. The damage was 10-12 pounds, thankfully, but I'm finally psychologically ready to get back on track. I kicked myself in the ass for gaining weight, but that didn't fix the problem and I had to remember why I had the surgery in the first place. So I started in Keto two weeks ago and have lost 4 lbs and feel like I'm headed in the right direction, even through the holidays I feel confident that I can do it. You can too!

Thank you so much everyone for replying to my post! You've all been so helpful. Just thought I'd provide an update. I took a good hard look at things, started writing down everything I was eating, and figured out I had gotten into a really bad habit of grazing all day long. I am a crisis responder who works nights 12PM-12AM and wasn't planning for meals. I would just grab a bunch of Snacks (fairly healthy but still not the best) and head out. I decided to make a change by giving myself actual meal times and planning for them, with 2 snacks a day. For my weird schedule I'm having Breakfast (an egg and bacon or sausage) at noon, lunch at 3PM (a salad with protein), and dinner at 7PM (Some sort of Protein and veggies). I've been having nuts around 5PM for snack #1 (thank you for the suggestion!), and then around 9PM eating for the final time with snack #2 of fruit or popcorn. It's working.. I'm down 10 pounds and feeling better! I really appreciate all of the suggestions, encouragement, and help here at Bariatric Pal and am prioritizing a daily visit to the site again like I used to. Take care everyone! XOXO

My insurance company didn’t cover weight loss surgery either. Had to self pay. Of course the next year they switched plans and it was under that plan but by then it was done. No regrets what so ever. Yes it costs but for me worth it to be healthier. Good luck to you in which ever way you decide to go. Sorry it’s not in your plan.

If def wasn’t 80k! I can’t remember the number. You know how you pay this person this and other person that...I honestly don’t know. But I do know diff surgeon/diff places have diff fees. Maybe find the surgeon you feel will do the best job and talk to his office about what kind of discounts they offer for cash pay patients. I think most hospitals charge less to cash pay.

Penne Alfredo (for my BF) This Pasta is made out of red lentil flour only. The instructions say to cook for 7-9 minutes but I found that it needs maybe 10-12 minutes to be tender otherwise it’s molto al dente.
I tried about 10 pieces and they were ok. I still don’t like pasta even though I love red lentils. It’s the texture for me.

I hear you! I found a bowl with a couple of spoons of rolled oats I couldn’t eat in my fridge this morning. I put it on a lower shelf in the fridge two days ago & forgot. It was all crusty - not appetising at all.

I think it's the same as a gyro. They call them doeners in Turkey and gyros in Greece.
well, I just googled it and I stand corrected. There are some slight differences (doener is spelled "doner" in Turkey - but I think there's a umlaut over the "o" (or some other symbol), so you sometimes see it spelled doener in other languages). But for practical purposes, they call similar sandwiches doners in some countries in gyros in others. People are usually referring to the same type of sandwich.

Went through the trouble of fixing this salad and logging the items in MFP, but then lost interest in wanting to eat it when I was done (i was hungry before i started making it, I swear! Anyone else find this happens to them? Its a regular occurrence for me).
Anyway, its going in the fridge for now and maybe i’ll eat it later. (unless someone in the fam usurps it before I get around to wanting it).
Romaine, carrots, cucumbers, feta, pan fried chicken chunks, and about 1/4 cup of leftover crustless quiche: 251 calories.
Full disclosure: i opted for a martini instead: 141 calories (not shown).

Thank you! And I made this on the stovetop! Here's the recipe:
    Ingredient:
1 red onion 4 large cloves of garlic Red wine 4 roma tomatoes (throw in blender until fully broken down) 1 -2 tablespoons of aji panca beef (obviously) potatoes carrots Seasonings
S&P Adobo garlic powder cumin beef bouillon oregano 1 bay leaf Directions:
In a little oil pan sear beef on all sides until slightly brown then remove and set aside. In the same pan saute onions in a little olive oil until translucent then add garlic until slightly golden. Add the Tomato sauce you made in the blender to the pan and then add the aji panca and cook mixture for 2 - 3 minutes. Season mixture with all seasonings above and mix well while cooking for another 1-2 minutes. Add beef and all its juices to the pan, coat all the meat well and then pour in some red wine. I eyeballed this but Id say I added about a cup. Cook beef in the sauce for another 2 minutes and then add lots of Water and then cover the pot. I cooked the beef a little over an hour and kept adding water as it got low. I think I added water about 3 times and on the last time when the water was low but not too low I added the carrots, let those cook then added the potatoes.
When I saw the potatoes were almost done I added a little bit more wine, about 1/2 cup more and let the alcohol simmer away.
I wanted my sauce thicker so in a small cup I added some water with a tablespoon of corn starch, mixed, then slowly added my cornstarch water to the pot until it was to thick to my liking. I didnt end up using all the cornstarch water.
Note: Throughout I kept tasting and adjusted the seasonings as needed.

Have any of you seen this? My WL surgeon shared it with me. Makes me even more glad I had PS done!

I've read about the PS thing, too - not sure if it was that article or another one. I think all of those are probably factors - fat cells having been removed, increase in body satisfaction, people don't want to screw up after spending tens of thousands of dollars on plastic surgery - or another factor might be that people who can spring for plastic surgery can (usually) also afford gym memberships, fitness classes, high quality food, etc. For whatever reason, yes - I've read people who've had PS usually have more success at keeping their weight off.

I will be 3wpo tomorrow! Just got back from another post op visit and I am officially drain free! Woo hoo! Boob tape was also removed.

I’ll use antibiotic ointment for another week and see the surgeon again next week at which time I’ll likely we switched over to silicon tape.

In honor of being drain free, I also switched over to my faja! Currently wearing an ab board with it. Not sure if I like the ab board or not but will keep it in for now!
