ABawdyMermaid got a reaction from Serengirl in WATER
For some reason when I drink plain Water, I actually get physically ill and I don't understand it at all? I have a phonecall scheduled for Monday with my nutritionist, and should hopefully have an answer then. I noticed that I don't have the problem though if the water is flavored with something.

ABawdyMermaid got a reaction from ARMoma45 in Can I afford the post-op diet?
I actually found that for me, the pre-op diet was far more expensive. Here in Finland, the pre-op diet is for 1 month, and involves drinking 5 Protein Shakes a day, which are anywhere from 1,69€ to 1,99€ each depending on which brand. And then you have a small amount of Protein and up to 500g (1lb) of select vegetables per day. We were spending loads just on the Protein Drinks alone.

Now our grocery bill has decreased since I barely eat anything. For the most part, it's just my husband eating now, and I tend to take a little of whatever he is having, so long as it is something I can eat, and it falls into the healthy category.

We still do buy some of the protein drinks from time to time, but usually only 1-2 every few days or so, versus 5 per day. They were the biggest chunk of our grocery bill each month.

I gurgle constantly after meals. The worst is when someone schedules a 1pm meeting and I have to sit in the conference room, after lunch, with my colleagues, and gurgle my way through a meeting. Awful!

So we are very similar in that I never saw myself as being as big as I was. my heaviest was 364 and I am 5' 10in tall. (used to be six foot but I am shrinking lol) So now I see my body changing and an totally enthralled with the changes. and what it can do. twisty yoga bendy poses, jump rope. run.

I guess everybody is different but I am 2lbs away form 100lb loss and I feel sexy, sassy and FREE

ABawdyMermaid reacted to Lochnessamber in Let's talk about body dysmorphia
Hi, I'm the Loch Ness Amber, and I have trouble perceiving my body as it is. (I have NOT been diagnosed with body dysmorphia.)
Pre-op, at my largest, I felt smaller than I really was. The concept of how big I truly was didnt seem right and needed to be proved with photos I didnt take myself. Post-op, I now feel larger than I really am, and it's what i see in the mirror.
I believe my perception of myself beforehand was contributing to my gain. My perception afterward doesnt seem to affect me other than a vague frustration. I'm wondering how common this is, and if anyone knows why this cognitive dissonance with our bodies even exists.
I'd also like to know if it resolves in time, or if I will forever perceive myself as "3-4x" whenever asked my clothing size.

ABawdyMermaid got a reaction from rs in How’d you Choose? Sleeve v.s. Bypass?
My options were the sleeve or bypass, and the surgeon recommended a sleeve first. That was also my first choice, as I'm not really interested in doing a bypass to be quite honest. The sleeve is touted as safer and that it has less complications than the bypass, and nothing is 'off limits' on the sleeve as well, which appealed to me. I am the type of person that if you say 'no', then I immediately want to do the forbidden thing, lol.

Mostly it came down to safety for me though, honestly. I admit that I have also heard of more 'horror' stories with the bypass also, so that helped to affect my choice. My surgeon did say that if I wasn't very successful on the sleeve though, in a year's time, she would very likely approve me for a revision to another kind of WLS. She said it wouldn't be bypass though.

You trade the weight for skin and the skin for scars. It's part of the journey. That being said I am coming to terms with the damage I caused to my body and try to be grateful for all the positives in my life. In the grand scheme of things the skin isn't so bad compared to all the wonderful gifts of losing the weight. Even knowing everything I know after losing 130 pounds I would do it again in a heartbeat, absolutely no doubt. Best thing I ever did for myself, ever. Good luck.

I do have loose and sagging skin in certain areas. I gained my weight really fast (100lbs) in a year so I was covered in stretch marks from my knees to my armpits lol. So that skin hasn't recovered as well as other areas. My breasts have lost most of their volume. My belly is sort of apron like and my inner thighs sag. My arms came right back. But here's the thing: I lost the genetic lottery when it comes to skin. I scar from even the littlest scratch. I knew this was going to happen. Everyone is different and you may be one of the lucky ones who snaps back into place. But I tell you a little sagging skin is well worth it! I can DM pics if you're worried Dont stress!

You can Google loose skin after bariatric to get an idea of what best and worst case senerios can look like.

Loose skin is an unkown factor of your weight loss. Age, how long you have been obese and amount of weight lost will be factors.

Plastics are an option. Self pay. Some insurance companies cover if the skin csuses mobility issues or rashes.

Yes, definitely talk to a counselor. It'll help. It's hard dealing with multiple things at once, I have depression too and am fighting not using food as comfort food or a crutch while losing weight.

If you have access to counseling, by all means, take advantage of it. If we had a "normal" relationship with food, we never would have gotten obese. The surgery is just a small part of the success. It's much more important to get your head in the game. Good luck!

So what is stopping you from seeking the counseling through work if you feel you need it? Is it anonymous or are you having a fear of being identified?
If you have problems with depression you don’t want to medicate with food, seek counsel or treatment through psychological therapy or medication if necessary.
Many of us are or have struggled with the same issues regarding food or we wouldn’t have needed surgery.
    Best wishes.

I had the sleeve done back in August and I am struggling really hard with food. Prior to surgery I used food as a coping mechanism to weigh down my depression. Now I am about 65 pounds down and I feel myself going back to my old habits. I always feel the urge to be eating something and when I do I usually eat until I feel sick because I think I’m not going to be able to eat again. Is their anyone else that feels like this? I am seriously considering using my EAP at work to seek counseling for food addiction. I am so stressed out that I am screwing up my progress and will stretch my stomach back out.

March 4th, you are still a virgin!! sounds like you are on top of the world.
Glad you found this site. It is very helpful. Ask your many questions, read
what OP ask and say. Hear their answers and experience. You'll find some
subjects are similar to your own. also use the SEARCH button.
while you are in the early stage of the game/and you are only on liquids, you
will feel no restriction - and you might feel empty/hungry. Once you start eating soft/
solid foods you will feel that restriction, and hopefully not feel hunger. But that
lack of hunger lasts different time periods for all.
At the end of the day, only listen to your NUT/doc - they are the experts.
    good luck😊

I had gastric sleeve done at noon on Monday. The surgery itself went fine, but recovery has been god awful. I can barely stand without having horrible pain and I am lightheaded most of the time. I have been able to burp, but no farts. I have to be oxygen a lot as well. Can anyone out there relate to a slow healer?? I feel so discouraged.

I went from 435 to like 402, I think? Or maybe 399. I'm not 100% clear, but it was over 30lbs. My pre-op diet was 1 month long though (compared to most people's which is 2 days to 2 weeks!) I am 5'6 as well, if that helps, and obviously was a pretty hefty girl, lol! (Well, still am, but a smaller, hefty girl.)
