  1. Hand in there! 30 pounds didn't cut it much for me, either. I am now down 65 lb from date of surgery and am finally coming alive!! Be patient with yourself. You will get there!
I've lost 50 some odd lbs since December 10th 2018 RnY. I am biding my time for a knee replacement in one leg and have a bone disease in the other. A brace on both legs. I was doing so good then bad weather hit and put a kink in my exercise. I was just setting here disappointed in myself that I can only ride a bike approximately half a mile. Knowing later my legs are going to hurt like blazes. I keep trying and I'm told to just keep trying. When the pools open I hope to do Water exercises. Don't be discouraged my friend baby steps are going to get us where we are going as long as we keep trying and not give up or give in. Slow and steady wins the race.

  2. You are never too old to set a new goal or dream a new dream.
    C.S. Lewis

Hi Frustr8, I enjoy C.S. Lewis and love that quote. It's all ice and snow here in Kansas right now. I am 51 and had my RnY bypbypRnYRnYg666h6h6 on 12/10/2018. Have lost around 35llbs since I started out. The inches and clothing fir are A-Mazing! Thank you for your time encouragement.

  4. Okay so you and I are having a similar experience and I have to say I have been feeling super frustrated because I see people losing 40 pounds in a month and I am closer to 20 3 months out....but, I recently saw my nutritionist and she said I am drinking too much Water (which I didnt even know was a possibility?) But she told me to me very strict about not xri king before or after eating for an hour....the other thing she mentioned was super important...I had been doing a Keto diet pre-surgery and it was really helpful and working! But, with my new tummy, I can't stay eating the same level of fat....so, I need to watch calories, cut out that cheese I had been ingesting....I have been working out, eating healthy....taking my vitamins....but, I am taking what she said into consideration and trying my best to lower my fat, increase my Protein and not drink before or after meals...and I lost 5 pounds since seeing her....but, and I know this is just supposed to be a tool and not a miracle...I have worked really hard to lose each and every pound...oh and I am going bald, not very happy about that...sigh...

I haven't lost a super large amount of weight yet but I can tell I am losing. I walk as much as possible. Take my Vitamins and try to get in my protein and water the best I can. My ex used to drink so much water he would become intoxicated. To the hospital he would go to get the Fluid drained with IV diuretics. I try to watch my water intake to as close as possible to standard and try not to go over too much. Keeping my water and meals completely apart but it is a constant struggle.

  5. Same for me. Was sleeved 12/14 and I don’t feel much difference. I can drink no problem, and I mean big gulps! I’m hungry all the time. Not the old hungry, but a not real satisfied hungry. I eat something every two hours. About 1/2 cup to a cup. I’m never overly full. It’s hard to explain. I tolerate everything I’ve tried so far. Haven’t lost that much either. I had lost 10 pounds at my one week appt but have only lost 2-4 since then. I try not to weigh often as to not get discouraged. Waiting for this restriction to kick into high gear!

When I started soft foods the feeling and restriction is very present. I have made a couple mistakes and Tiny Tummy threw a fit. I was cutting cantaloupe and just popped a cube in my mouth. Definitely did not chew enough. It was a very eye opening experience. There are some foods I can not eat because Tiny Tummy no longer likes it. Everything in the guidelines and information becomes real and larger than life. Be patient and be aware. The change is going to become real evident.

  6. I'm just now starting the soft foods phase 3 weeks post-op, and I can already tell that food makes a big difference from liquid. I can eat so very little before feeling full, which is a good feeling knowing that the surgery has worked. I've lost 15 pounds and 16 inches already in 21 days, so I know it's working and will continue to work if I just be patient and follow the program.
Your statement is an inspiration to me. I don't start soft foods until Monday. I had the concern that my surgery wasn't working. I don't see much loss myself. I notice my clothing fitting different and I know that I lost over 20 lbs so far.

  7. Be happy! I couldn't get all my liquids in for months! My face looked different (take a selfie every day or every few days) but I felt like my body wasn't doing anything. All the sudden my 24s turned into 18s overnight. I have the fullness restriction but no foods bother me. 104 pounds down!

  8. And the greatest sin in My Mind? They are made with high fructose corn Syrup, sugar or concentrated fruit Syrup. As a barely successful former carb-aholic , why jump back into the fire in the furnace?
My guidelines were take Vitamins as soon as possible. I had mine ready to start taking when I got home. Then again I was already having problems with low Vitamin levels and had taken vitamins before surgery. I take a bariatric Multivitamin with Iron and then Calcium with D3, separately as iron and calcium don't play nice with each other and and I need all of them both. They are both chewable. I have to take potassium as well, liquid. NASTY! Necessary, but nasty. I just ordered more vitamins yesterday. Got a good deal. Buy one, get one. So two months are taken care of. Lol! Ordered from ProHealthCare. Code BOGO50 If anyone needs a break on price. I ordered some items with Protein from here Bariatric Pal. Our vitamins are vital to our health. Smile and take them daily.

  9. I can relate .... when I was first sleeved I felt similar. I didn’t realize how much joy I took in eating until I was forced to just have Protein Shakes. I does get better, especially as your diet advances. You will once again find pleasure in food (healthier food and smaller portions ... but variety helps tremendously!)

Of course finding joy and pleasure in things other than food is important to establish as well ... but I just wanted to echo with others that I can relate and it definitely gets better. Hang in there!
When I was paid and wanted to go out and do something (b4 it was out to eat) I opted for movie theater tickets. It was a very nice "date". Well, except having to pay $5.50 for a 20oz bottle of Water. The tickets were only $3.50. I needed the water so I paid for it and enjoyed my movie.

  10. You know, I had waited 4 years to do one becuase i went through seeing people go through ups and downs after there's. I finally was offered to have one by one of the best sleeve surgeons and took it...Glad I did... I'm off my metformin, and Water meds already and will be lowering amounts of meds for high blood pressure next... yippee just got home from surgery yesterday...
I left the hospital with no Metformin, no Tresiba, no Trulicity, down one blood pressure pill. Can't think of anything else. They left me on Novolog sliding scale before meals as needed only. I have had exactly 3 shots since Dec 9th. All three times I had my Protein Shake before checking or something like that. This year is going to be so good. I feel better than I have in a very long time. Congratulations and best wishes. I am sure those medications are going bye bye as well.

  11. It is such a foreign concept to me to worry about but my mother thinks because she’s been nagging me to get bariatric surgery for the last eight years and I would never do it. She had it done herself and she thought that I should do it but I was always too scared. I know she’s happy that I’m having it done, my surgery date is January 22. I’m also nervous but excited!
It is so much better when you are on the loser's bench. You are going to be glad you folloed through.

  12. For anyone and everyone in the early stages worrying that their surgery didn’t take, or that it isn’t working for them, please slow down, and calmly take a nice breath. You are perfectly normal, and just like many many others on here that have shared similar experiences, the feelings of hunger after surgery aren’t uncommon. :) The liquid diet phase is usually two weeks. I was hungry during this period as well, and also had a whole lot of head hunger. Liquids slipped right on through not creating any feeling of fullness really. The thing is, some people heal faster than others, and some experience more or less swelling than other people. When you’re reading posts with patients describing a hard time getting liquids down, it’s usually because their new stomachs are are still very much healing, and it’s taking it’s time, probably with some serious swelling. If you’re hungry, consider that your stomach is actually healing really well, and doing just fine!

The liquid / purée stages, from what I understand, are here to help our stomachs heal from surgery. That’s it. It’s not fun that liquids pass through your band, sleeve or pouch, but think of it as your stomach doing pretty well! Do not fret or worry. Purées and soft foods are next, and once you get past purées and onto more solid food, I assure you, at least according to most of the posts on this forum, you will feel new feelings of “full” and satisfied again. Just take your time and know that it’s coming! This is another hard part on our journey, but it’s worth it!! You’re worth it!! Let’s continue to heal up together and know that this will get better! [emoji123] [emoji4]

    Band Surgery 8/12/2008
    Weighed 425
    Sleeve Surgery 12/12/28
    Weighed 306

Two weeks post op from the sleeve, and currently weigh 292. Today was first day of purées. I do feel more restriction and full compared to liquids! I expect it will be much more pronounced after this with more solid food.
Thank you Vic. That makes me feel so much better and makes perfect sense. [emoji4]
I guess my new pod stoma is a little tougher to as I take a good amount of medications for things that could not be taken away. I have taken these a long time even after surgery without needing crushed. On the other hand I no longer take over half the meds I was taking before surgery. [emoji4] I am very glad to have this new tool. Definitely an adventure worth taking.

  13. Zeb I’m feeling like the puréed egg salad I had today has definitely helped with head hunger for me as well. I’m looking forward to trying a purées chicken salad soon, but so far puréed vegetable Soup, and egg salad have been just fine. Same with sugar free pudding, I haven’t tried yogurt yet.
I made me an egg salad with Tblsp plain lite yogurt and dab of mustard a dash of salt and pepper. It was so good. I didn't care how squishy it was. Lol!

  14. I am on purees and doing better battling head hunger now than on the full liquid diet. I was going to try a few good baby foods got some. They no longer have the same ones that were out when my daughter was born. I tried a fruit one banana and orange combo. It was not at all what I expected. Lol! Making me some soft boiled eggs to puree. So far eggs are good. Yogurt is good. I have sugar free Jello and pudding. I love sugar free fudgecicles and orange sherbet.

  15. Yeah they do, may buy a couple of cans tomorrow when I have transportation, pop one open and sing Happy Birthday to ME!
Been a hard candy Christmas, nearly broke until Social Security a week from Thursday, tried selling a couple items on our local buy-sell-barter radio program called TRADIO. Turns out the things I had decided I didn't need any more and wanted to sell, nobody else wanted either. Did not get a single phone call. Oh my cell phone has gotten the usual Spammers. I have been offered
Viagra- husband dead 6+ years, Can you plant it like vegetable seed and grow a new man?
Better rates on Car Insurance- don't owe a vehicle
Hearing Aids- one so tiny Nobody would know- no but my depleted bank account would.
Defraying Student Loans- come on Folks, I'll be 73 tomorrow, only thing I'm studying is how not to starve and get Vitamins in and not die!
Caribbean cruises- I have enough trouble getting to Columbus 48 miles away for doctors appointments
Roto-Tiller- this is Ohio, December, I don't even go outside in icy weather.
Evangelists- maybe a legacy from MIL, because I have had this cell phone number that long. She sent money to every crackpot that came down the lane, even the one who stated " GOD wants ME to have a Jet Plane" How wonderful but I'm not financing it!
Then there was the love sick dude. in Louisiana who claimed to have gotten my phone number from me in a zydeco bar. Never ever been in a zydeco bar, not many people in Ohio even know about zydeco.
And last but not least Wrong numbers and Basic Spam
"Is this You? I guess Not.
This is YOUR lucky day! Nope don't think so!
Did you wake up this morning? Well I must have, or I wouldn't be listening now.
Will your family miss YOU when you are DEAD? One can only hope so!
And why, oh why, do they call it LIFE INSURANCE? Should be DEATH INSURANCE, that would be,more truthful. You are getting you are going to die, insurance company says No you are still, going to cough up monthly premium, if you win, you're dead and only your heirs are going to enjoy [emoji383]. And unless you have pre-arrangements the mortuary takes it all for your funeral anyway.
And supposedly I won a steak dinner at a local restaurant, would have given it to Tomkitten but it's non- transferable. At 21 weeks post-surgery I am, because of Precious Pouch' s Stomal Stricture , the 5+ evil bad intentioned jejunem ulcers and their potential future family marching towards the ileum, a non-glorious location for irritation, if I want to try anything P.O. it must be full liquid or super duper runny puree and 1/3 cup or less, so unless I am feeling highly "Froggy[emoji196]" I have one powdered and skim milk based 16 oz shake and sip on it all day. But really TPN , prenatal Vitamin, minerals, B12 sublingual, and what few meds I require, that's what I'm living on into Mid January. And my. liquid supplement dietician told me yesterday how many calories my 14 hour feeding gives me, Whoee, about double what I was taking when I was doing fully oral, but my surgeon's know this, they authorized it, so if I haven't hit a Stall, it will be by the Grace of God, Tomkitten on Thursday will be seeing our PCP, one of his meds requires a 3 month check, Thanx Abusers, it's one his health requires but let's just say IT HAS STREET VALUE also. So while we are there I shall utilize his professional scale and probably let you all know.
Before the 60s I would either have a NG tube or slowly starved to death, might take a while, because I still have enough weight to be divided into 2 " normal" people, my heart would have ceased beating probably first. Could not have a tube through my stomach wall as an RNYer, oh Medicare suggested it when my medical team was trying to seek approval, has to have a Practical Anatomy lesson from Dr Scoville, my surgeon's Resident. Nice doctor, potentially an UberSurgeon when his residency is complete.
For Christmas I attemped some sugar free Protein enriched butterscotch pudding, a teaspoon and a half, sure of the amount because that was the size spoon I was using to eat, an orphan from one of my measuring spoon sets. Precious started to speak Spanish, she's smart, was made at Ohio State University so college-educated." Pelligro! Hija, NO MAS!" Yes ma'm , I do not want to wear it!
But you know, I am warm, safe, loved, smaller physically than 2017, a great bariatric team I can call on if necessary, and I will get through this bumpy part of my recovery. I am God's Child and His Retirement Plan is out of This [emoji289]World of Sorrow and Pain. So No Regrets and I'll get better Yet![emoji13][emoji320][emoji318][emoji403]
Bless you sweet lady. Your strength and determination are an inspiration in times of weakness. [emoji301] I still think I can eat too much. Worry all the time. If my new pod gets upset now I don't get anything out but a spittle it feels like the rest is blocked and can't get out. A strangling feeling almost. With a weak bladder the heaving causes; well you can imagine. I try my best not to upset tiny pod. So glad I did this for me. Don't know any numbers yet but my clothes are beginning to fit differently. In a good way for a change.

  16. I'm drinking premade GNC Lean shakes with 25g Protein per 14 oz shake. I'm 15 days post-op. I like the chocolate ones. I also bought some Pure Protein Clear Shakes at Sam's Club (premade) that are fruit punch flavored
Not sure off hand which clear (red) fruit flavor Protein Drink I picked up at Walmart. Has 15g of protein but I personally do not like them. The kind I got tasted like unsweetened cough Syrup. Not good. I think I got the wrong thing. Lol! I have strange taste preferences after surgery for a few things.
