  1. Hello,

As of Feb 18th, I was 4 years out from surgery. Surgery went well, except for about 2 weeks after surgery I had sever GERD. The doctors weren't sure what was causing it other than I went from the Lap Band to Sleeve. It lasted about 2 weeks and then there after never had a issue until just recently. I was taking 1 Prilosec a day and now bumped it to 2x a day. Since that was not really working, I tried Pepcid and that has not worked that I can tell. I do have an appointment next week with my bariatric doctor and Im thinking they are going to order a upper GI. Im just wondering if anyone has experience this being this far out from surgery. I thought with being 4 years out that I wouldn't have this issue. Im scared to death that they won't figure it out and they will try to transition me to full bypass.

    Thank you,

  2. Hello,

As of 01/01/2020 my insurance will no longer cover Prilosec as a prescription because its over the counter. Pricing it out to by it over the counter, I would need to take out of second mortgage. I cant take Protonix . Just wondering what other rx's people are taking after surgery. The Prilosec is working thus far for me.

    1) Has anyone still tried to take NSAIDs after surgery for a brief period of time for any reason?

    2) Experience on taking birth control pills AFTER surgery?

    3) How was your pregnancy experience after sleeve?

    Thank you!

I was on anti inflammatory prior to surgery, had to stop before surgery. I was cleared about a month ago that I could take celbrex as long as I upped my prilosec. to x2 a day.

I have been on birth control pills for 30 years no issues after surgery.

And @Rene S how are you doing and how did things turn out for YOU? It's Almost July 2019 and I have been wondering.

Much better these days, thank you for asking. It was a rough month or so. My anxiety is pretty much gone. I never had experienced anything like that before, you feel helpless. All the chest issues were I believe extreme Gerd. I have that under control with a prilosec a day. Now I just have to figure out how to manage all my aches and pains. I was on anti inflammatory meds prior to surgery and then was taken off. I was cleared to take them again I just have not, was a bit worried but its to the point I cant exercise much and weigh loss has pretty much stopped :(

    Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has taken or is currently taking an anti inflammatory after surgery? I was on Voltaren for multiple issues and since I have been off it since surgery, I am in so much pain. When I asked my surgeon they did flat out say no it more like wait awhile and we will see.

I was taking it while I had the lap band with no issues. I had a upper GI and a barium swallow for other things and nobody said I had issues due to taking the Voltaren.

My weight loss has pretty much stopped/stalled after 7 weeks due to not being able to exercise.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    Sorry wrong forum..

May I ask, how long did you have the lap band?

I had it originally placed in 2005. It slipped in 2014, had it redone and then it slipped again in 2018. Revised to sleeve on 2/18/2019. Other than the slips no other issues that I knew of.

  9. I think we might have found some of my issues. I had a EGD and upper GI and it looks like I have esophageal motility issues. Basically when I eat my esophagus is not moving the food down to the stomach. Therefore its just sits there in the esophagus causing issues. They have me on a soft diet eating more frequently. I do feel better than I did, so hopefully I'm over the hump. They didn't directly say it but wondering if this was related to having the Lap Band on for a long time.

I had GERD before the sleeve surgery 12/11/18. It got worse for several weeks after the surgery. Now it's completely gone! I was taking prescription Omeprazole (generic for Priloesec), 20 mg and it was working. I don't take anything for it anymore and it doesn't happen anymore!

    Thanks

I developed a rare case of severe reflux- I had reflux prior to sleeve. When I had my sleeve my symptoms improved for a couple of months about 6 months ago they got so bad I was producing acid while I was sleeping. Because of the medication I was on I wasn't able to wake up. Once we got the EDG results, I had severe inflammation due to the reflux to my esophagus, and because of that it cause a restriction where my esophagus and stomach meet, it made it hard for me to eat. Within a week I was approved for bypass, I will be 2 weeks post op tomorrow. And have been reflux free.

How long did you have the sleeve for before getting bypass?

I had band to sleeve on 2/11/19. It will get better! I walked in circles around my leaving room to relieve gas pressure in my upper abdomen & chest. It really works! I also found relief by laying on my tummy. I use an albuterol inhaler to open up my air passages & used my spirometer daily for 3 weeks.

I am no doctor but I know from experience that anxiety itself can make you feel like you can't breath! Take solace in knowing you did the right thing to experience a healthier YOU. We are here for you!

Thank you.. Are you experiencing any reflux?

While I didn't experience what you have, I will say it does get better...Up until the last week or so, I seriously questioned whether it was worth it or not....I mean I saw the numbers on the scales coming down, and I saw my clothes getting looser, but, the psychological factor really had me tore up...I mean, watching your friends and family eat all the stuff that you love, while you are lucky to eat 3 or 4 ounces...and sometimes of stuff that your head says that you just want to eat and eat because you love the taste of it....

Just hang in there...it will get better....remember, the small things add up to the big things...

Thank you, I hope it does.

You did all the right things, took all precautions and actions you should have.

    BRAVO!🎇🎇🎇

Sometimes people don't take symptoms seriously or act too slowly. You did not. Since your Surgeon and ER docs ruled things out and gave you a plan they believe, so try to follow it.

It is likely still swelling from major surgery. Conversion from a band can be tricky I have read because of the levels of erosion and scar tissue that may be present.

Your healing may be slow but you seem to have a team that cares and that can make a difference in how you feel about your progress month to month.

Congrats on a successful surgery. Get well soon. Stay in touch with your team and try new foods on their schedule for you.

Thank you.. I am so hoping I just need to heal.

  15. Hello,

Long story short, I had the band to sleeve conversion on 02/18/19. All went well and then last week Monday two week check up and again all ok. Then Tuesday I had a hard time breathing and chest pains. Dr told me to go to the ER to rule out blood clots, etc, all checked out ok. My Surgeon on Thursday bumped up my Prilosec to x2 a day since I didn't feel much better by Thursday. It has helped a bit but still have a bit of the tightness and breathing issues. I am scared to eat, that making eating it will make it worst but having soft foods for the most part. Not sure if stomach is still healing/swollen. Someone said it can take up to four to six week for the Prilosec to take full effect.

I guess I'm just wondering will it get better or is this my new normal? I am having some regrets on what I did even though at this point I cant change it. I have never had anxiety in my life but since Wednesday I think I have it in overdrive . I just don't know where to go at this point.

Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful at this point.

I've had pain in my center chest since surgery. It's subsiding now and I can drink Water without feeling like I'm having center pressure pain.

I did eat some cream of wheat and I had severe pains in my stomach. One come to believe I ate too quickly. Is your pain associated with eating or just a constant pain?

    Hello,

The pain goes in waves, worst after I eat.

  17. Hello,

As of Monday, I was two week post op. Had my follow up visit on Monday with no issues and was moved to stage 2, mechanical soft. On Tuesday afternoon, I had pain and pressure in my chest. It kind of went in waves. No burning that I could tell. Still had it pretty bad today, when I called my surgeons office she told me to got the ER. Of course I was petrified of what it could be. ER ruled out some things such as blood clot. They really couldn't tell me what it was. I asked if they think it was GERD but they didn't say for sure. They just suggested I talk with my PCP to get a stress test. Not sure where that came from. I am currently take Prilosec, one a day.

    Thoughts would be appreciative.

    Thanks

I had lap band surgery in 2010 and it worked amazing until 2016 when my band slipped. My band was removed and I was told I would probably gain all the weight back and have to do another weight loss surgery.

I've been so depressed the past two years as I watched the scale go up and felt powerless. In August I decided to look into the Gastric Sleeve. I had my surgery on 2.7.19 and in many ways, it feels like starting over again. I am motivated to be successful and to have this be lasting weight loss this time.

    Hello,

I am in your same boat x2 I originally had band place in 2005. Then revised in 2014, however it failed me again. Converted to sleeve on 02/18/2019. Hope it goes well for both of us post lap banders.
