You can have coffee. You can have any food you want eventually after a while, only in smaller portions, but the whole purpose of the WLS was to use it as a tool to change your eating habits permanently. It's not the solution, it's a tool.

The pre-op liquid diet is only stressful if you let it be that way. It's a new way of life. The sleeve will give you back new life and new opportunities and health. Isn't that worth 2 weeks of a liquid diet? I didn't have any trouble with it. And I had no pain or gas problems after the surgery either.

I never had any poop issues after the sleeve, but it seems like they said to take Colace if you did.

GradyCat reacted to fourmonthspreop in Nausea and fatigue after eating
It's been happening the past couple of days. My diet the past couple of days has been things like eggs, avocado, cooked vegetables, raw minced garlic, cheese, yogurt, soy Protein, tahini, potatoes. I've had foamies before and this isn't it. It's like a delayed nausea that moreso sits in my stomach/organ area rather than my esophagus or throat. There's no foam or hiccuping. I just get really nauseous and feel like I need to lay down. It usually passes in an hour.

GradyCat got a reaction from fourmonthspreop in Went on vacation for a week, first time since surgery - and I LOST weight!
That's WONDERFUL! I take cruises a couple of times a year and most people think you gain a ton of weight on cruises because there's food available 24/7, but on vacation I limit myself to the 3 meals a day and no snacking and I almost always end up losing weight or if not, staying the same weight.

I’m 3 weeks out from surgery. May 16. Gastric Bypass. I’m 60. 5’6. 43 BMI. With so many co-morbidities ! Diabetes, high blood pressure. Arthritis in knees and ankles.

Last weekend I got very down, thinking if I hadn’t been successful before long-term how was I going to be able to do it now. If I had slowly been losing since this whole process started last July when I had my first consult I would weigh less now as I know wls is just a tool and not a magical solution. I talked about my fears, ordered a bariatric cookbook and got on here to read to see if anyone eles was going through something similar. I didn’t find anyone who wrote word for word what I was feeling but I read supportive things, really just what I needed to read, to think that yeah ok I got this. My daughter said that she’d be worried if I felt invincible beforehand because acknowledging my shortcomings beforehand seemed more healthy.

It helps not to keep things bottled up because that’s when the fears snowball for me.

I had my doctor phone appointment last Thursday. I forgot to ask how long they recommend being off work. I was readying myself to have to do a 2 week liquid diet but doc said it wasn’t necessary, just for me to lose as much weight before surgery as I could. Which lead to me thinking about how I hadn’t lost anything really during these months of pre-op. and self-doubts.

I appreciate all y’all writing about everything. The good bad and ugly. The overwhelming sentiment seems to be: why didn’t I do this earlier. That’s where I want to be.

Now, working on tapering off of caffeine! Thanks for being my buddies.

GradyCat reacted to Mariann812 in Find out this week: May or June Surgery Date
You are SO right…I just can’t wait to get this show on the road I guess.
It will have to wait till school is out, though. We have only one day off in May, and that’s not enough. EOG’s are last week in May and they don’t end till June 8. I’m definitely looking at dates after that.
I know you’re right…I’d be so stressed that I wouldn’t be able to get back to school immediately that it’s best I wait.

Don't let the jerks get to you. First, they don't know you. Second, they were immature. Third, you are on a journey where you hadn't yet reached the goal, but you're working toward it. Strangers can't know that. Strangers shouldn't have any control over your emotions. I know it's easier said than done, but we care about you and won't bully you here on this forum.

Portion Control rather than calorie counting is the key at this point. Eat only 1/2 cup even if you can consume more, don't do it.

Okay, so we've heard all our lives to get 64 oz of Water each day. But why? I just watched a YouTube video with a doctor whose name I can't pronounce or spell say that our bodies naturally tell us how much water we need. We have a built-in mechanism to keep us from drinking too much. He said that the 8 glasses a day is an arbitrary number.

No your cold/sinus issues won't show up in the blood work. Drink some Emergen-C each day for the next two weeks to be in your best health going into surgery.
