GradyCat reacted to KCgirl061 in how has surgery impacted your hunger?
Sleever here. Hunger disappeared for 6 months and then it came back. Like at 6 months, 1 day. For several weeks I was haunted with a rebound hunger monster that I really struggled to get under control. I bought some Slimquick - which I consider mild as far as appetite suppressants go. Took that for about 6 weeks until I felt like I had the necessary self control not to graze in the afternoons and evenings. I don't take it anymore, but I keep it handy in case the stresses of everyday life get too much and the monster wants to come out again.
It's too bad, I would have happily gone the rest of my life without ever feeling hungry again.

There's still "head hunger" and a little regular hunger, but it's easier to control. I eat every 3- 4 hours, but in small portions.

Nope, I haven't told anyone but my husband. Don't want the drama or judgmental comments.

You'll appreciate that feeling once you advance to foods and it'll keep you from wanting to overeat or indulge in things you shouldn't have.

I thought it looked like a good idea but my surgeon steered me away from doing Patches, so I'm doing soft-chews.

You'll lose a certain % of weight rather than # of pounds compared to others. Also, you started at a lower weight to begin with. People lose at different rates. I've become a slow loser, but at least I'm still a loser. LOL!

I'm going to try this next because I'm still stuck in this stall for six weeks. Willing to try anything to get out of it and get into Onederland.

Ask your surgeon his/her success rate with the surgery and how many he/she has performed. Your nutritionist will give you sample diet plans. You can pretty much eat anything but carbs or sugar and about 600-800 calories per day. the bariatric plate says to fill a plate with 50% Protein, 25% veggies, 25% grains. Eat protein first. If full, stop. If still hungry, eat the veggies. Same thing. Don't eat the grains unless still hungry and eat them last.

GradyCat got a reaction from ARMoma45 in Can't decide sleeve or bypass
I thought I wanted bypass because I didn't like the idea of them permanently removing my stomach from me, but two of my other doctors felt that bypass was too radical for me and wanted me to do sleeve instead, so I did.

Going on 4 months post-op and no complications. Surgery went fine. No pain after surgery. Nausea limited to the first day post-op. No problems getting my Protein in, swallowing Water, sleeping, nothing. Happy camper here!

I had my sleeve in December and I've been in a stall for a month now. It's so depressing and it's driving me crazy because I'm exercising, getting my Protein in, drinking Water, and eating around 850 calories. I should be losing! Hang in there, we just have to let this stupid stubborn stall run its course.

@catwoman7 thanks for explaining some of the things you did pre-surgery and how they helped; and well done on your weight loss .... it's really helping reading a little of others experiences
@GradyCat congratulations on the weight you've lost since surgery; and that's so encouraging to read that the surgery has helped you with the emotional eating as well; and to know i'm not alone in wondering regarding the hunger compared to emotional eating issue. Thanks for what you've shared
@Orchids&Dragons thanks very much for your reply here. Definitely not something to do as a first option. i've done the loss, maintain, regain thing ........ a number of times. I've read some of the stories of sabotage after wls, and this is definitely something i want avoid, and to try and sort through before the surgery and find ways to reduce that happening. So working on my head, and finding new coping tools; that will then help with the surgery (as another tool) seems to be the direction I need to be taking

I too was worried about whether or not to have the surgery because I don't have a "hunger" problem but rather an emotional problem of eating when I'm upset. Plus I rarely ate food anyway, mostly just Cookies and chocolate. But now after 4.5 months post-sleeve I can say that the surgery helped with those issues as well. I've learned to listen to my stomach and stop eating when it's full. I haven't done any emotional eating. I've lost 49 pounds.
