I've lost 50 some odd lbs since December 10th 2018 RnY. I am biding my time for a knee replacement in one leg and have a bone disease in the other. A brace on both legs. I was doing so good then bad weather hit and put a kink in my exercise. I was just setting here disappointed in myself that I can only ride a bike approximately half a mile. Knowing later my legs are going to hurt like blazes. I keep trying and I'm told to just keep trying. When the pools open I hope to do Water exercises. Don't be discouraged my friend baby steps are going to get us where we are going as long as we keep trying and not give up or give in. Slow and steady wins the race.

Hand in there! 30 pounds didn't cut it much for me, either. I am now down 65 lb from date of surgery and am finally coming alive!! 🙂 Be patient with yourself. You will get there!

The 56 Bypass got a reaction from Ed_NW in Struggling with food 9wks post-op (especially protein)
Hi Ed. Today I weigh 201. I have settled into a bit of a routine. About 3-4 days per week I follow this regime and about 3-4 days per week I'm off of it and follow my normal diet, then back on, etc. I'm now maintaining a steady weightloss. The first year after surgery is our golden opportunity for weightloss, no hunger, no cravings. We shouldn't squander it, but use it to our advantage.Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using BariatricPal mobile app

Yes. I have been using GENEPRO to break a weight loss stall that began about 8-9 weeks post-op and continued through to 11 weeks. I'd still be in it had I not changed what I was doing. I came up with the solution described below to break my stall/slowed down weight loss as I was thinking about the days right after my surgery. My surgeon has her patients on Clear Liquids for 14, yes, 14 days!!!!! following surgery. No protein, no vitamins.....ONLY CLEAR liquids and medications for 14 days. I lost a pound or two a day on the regimen. Since my weight loss had drastically slowed, I was significantly behind on the amount of weight I am expected to lose by my next surgeon appointment and decided I would go back to post-surgery basics, but with protein, meds and Vitamins added. I began this regimen on Thursday, March 14th, weighing 219lb. Today, I weighed in at 210 pounds.
Here is what I do: I take three 16 ounce bottles of water and to them I add 1 scoop Genepro, which is flavorless, 30g protein and only 60 calories. You can drink it plain or flavor it however you,d like, just don't add calories more than 20, perhaps, with whatever you choose. I add sugar free decaffeinated ice tea powder to mine. These three bottles become my "meals" for the day, Breakfast, lunch, supper, giving me 90g protein for the day and only 180 calories. In between these "meals" I drink another 16 ounce bottle of water, giving me a total 96 oz water for the day. Additionally, I take all my meds and vitamins as I am supposed to throughout the day.
Once I reach 209 pounds I will be at the bare minimum of where my surgeon expects her patients to be at 3 months post-op, which puts me at the 50th percentile. I plan on continuing this regimen for the entire 14 days in order to get as near to 201 by the end on March, early April, which will put me in the 75th percentile, which is a MUCH better place to be. Anything below the 50th percentile is considered to be a weight loss surgery patient failure. This info is taken from a Duke University study conducted to discover early weight loss predictors for success or failure among weight loss surgery patients. I explain this study and provide links in the video I've posted here in my status update on Bariatric Pal. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. :-)

Your stomach is still swollen from the surgery. You're not going to get a lot of things in and if your surgeon had advanced you to puree, then puree it is. However, hasn't your surgeon also explained that it will take you very long to eat right now? This is how you get on what you need, by setting adding 40-60 minutes for a meal and very slowly taking it in. This is very very very very early in your surgery. Be very very very careful and especially be patient. There is no need to cry over anything at this point. Instead, be thrilled you have a new tool the will serve you well so long as you follow your SURGEON's direction and not your friends! Be in daily contact with your surgeon's dietician. This is where your anchor can be found. Not here on Bariatric Pal and NOT your friends. Your anchor is in the program at your surgeon's office.

Same here at 3 months out. food just doesn't to it for me, which is a blessing to keep me from eating it. I don't have the Gherelin hunger trigger anymore and I'm still working on emotional or boredom eating, but even it's barely there now, so food just isn't a big deal.

The 56 Bypass reacted to Nhope in How do I break this habit?
    Wise ones,
At my goal weight and just over 18months past surgery, I am becoming aware of some of my old, bad, eating habits creeping back in. The one I'm focusing on at the moment is this: When I am eating, and just after I'm done, all I can think about is eating more and/or again. I'm not hungry, but it seems that if I haven't eaten so much that I feel uncomfortable or sick, I just want more. I try not to give in, try to wait for a specific period of time, try to write down what I've eaten immediately.... but I'm really struggling with this.
I guess I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and start gaining weight again. This hasn't happened, but I worry about my capacity for self-fulfillment of my fears!
Any advice or empathy is welcome! I'm going to work on checking in more on this forum again. I had gotten out of the habit in the last year, but I think it will help.

Sometimes you can find inexpensive blood glucose monitors and strips on Ebay. They might be left over from someone's deceased loved one, or sent on a continual basis to a patient in the mail and are more than that person can use...so they get sold.
I had a diabetic dog for ten years, and bought all of her monitoring supplies this way. Out of curiosity, I tested myself with them before going in for bloodwork...they were quite accurate. Check ebay for the brand you prefer and look at some alternate brands, too.
You need to get your insurance straightened out and get the care and monitoring you deserve....but this might be an affordable interim measure.

I am mixing one TBLSP of GENEPRO (30g protein) in my yogurt, cottage cheeses, etc, to get in the needed Protein. Its available on Amazon and worth it. Absolutely no taste. I can't drink the protein shakes....ugh! Genepro is my life saver!

Way to go!! I have lost 21 since surgery. I had a bit of a stall when I went to pureed foods. I think I had lost a lot of muscle weight during the pre-op liquid and post op. I went back to work on the 9th, so my activity level increased about 500%. I was having a hard time getting in Protein, but doing better now. Staying hydrated is a little hard. At work, I keep a small bottle with me that is a mixture of Powerade Zero, Water, and ice. All my work clothes are too big now. Lol.

    Hello!
I also had my surgery on the 26th. So far I’ve been feeling ok. The gas pain was pretty bad but other than that it was just a matter of being tired. Today I drove for the first time and I feel great. I’ve decided to only weigh my self every Wednesday so I can track weekly process. With that being said after week 1 I had lost 18.2lbs. My eyes almost fell out of my head!
I am craving different things like cheese and savory foods. But it’s not a hunger issue, it’s all in my head, so it will take some time for me to fight the bad habit of eating when bored or feeling blah.
