Laner got a reaction from FluffyChix in Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
Family, two ladies in a covenant group at church, and the women I share an office with know. I wanted to be sure the people I have around me all the time knew so they would hold me accountable and also not try to get me to eat all the office sweets

Laner got a reaction from Liz The New Me in Vitamins
I'm working on incorporating all the Vitamins and curious - what vitamins are you taking and how many mg of each? Also, do you find gummies easier? I don't like sweet drinks, so I can't do stick packs.

Laner got a reaction from Frustr8 in Loose stools and lots of gas in pipes while moving bowels
Do you sleep with a CPAP? I had this problem and it turned out my CPAP was filling my pouch and intestines with air while I slept. It was ramping up to too high of an air flow for my breathing to compensate.

Laner got a reaction from ShrinkingTN- hopefully in Support and honesty needed
My primary care doctor is the one who recommended surgery to me because he said women over 50 nearly never manage to lose and keep the weight off without some kind of procedure, so there goes your husband's argument about age. I had all of these conversations with myself leading up to surgery and what convinced me was the week before surgery, when I started my liquid diet one day early - I found out midday that I was a day early and immediately went out and ate a meal I shouldn't have. When there is no immediate medical issue at stake, I cheat, cheat, cheat on diets. Kind of an extreme way to discipline myself, but it is working. There is too much at stake for me to cheat on this. I am in week 3 and already feel better and have more confidence in myself than I ever have. You do what is right for you - he will have to acknowledge you were right soon enough!

Laner reacted to notmyname in Cold food
I eat ricotta bake hot or cold. Google eggface's ricotta bake. Yogurt also works. My program also allowed well combined tuna salad, but that made me pretty sick.
I also just bought this warming plate thing on Amazon. I'm hoping that it'll keep my plate warm so my food stays warm. If your bowls/plates are small enough, some people suggested using a mug warmer - they're just too small for the salad plates I use.

Love this! I've been doing this, too - it is amazing what an eye-opener not being able to eat is!

Laner got a reaction from drop the beat in Frustrated
I have found it interesting, as well, how much my social and even family life surrounded food. I've been going with family when they eat out and I survive by focusing on the conversation and also I people watch and see how much our culture has come to depend on food for entertainment. Try taking your drinks or whatever diet you are on with you so you can be having what you are supposed to have. Keep your eye on the end result - it will all be worth it!

Laner reacted to FluffyChix in Support and honesty needed
He's worried about losing an "eating/feeding partner" and also worried about how your new life will affect him. The End. Fu*k him! LOL. You do you. Many of us on here are 50+ and have done so well (and feel younger and like we have a younger life back).
Only you know what's going to work for you. But I will tell you this...it's hard work. For some of us, it's hard work. Nothin easy or short cut about it. The tool is only a tool. Someone described this surgery as a nail. A nail does nothing by itself. It just lays there and is a nail. But if you apply action and force (pounding), then it does amazing work and fortifies and strengthens.
This isn't magic bean surgery. IT will not make you magically dissolve to a tiny weight. You have to change your lifestyle and your food choices if you want to lose it and keep it off. If you honestly aren't ready for that change? Then in my opinion, you ARE wasting your time, money, and 80% of your tummy, and your golden shot. There's only 1 golden shot. You have to want it like there is no tomorrow.

Laner got a reaction from quana711 in Cold food
I'm entering into soft foods (hallelujah! Never thought scrambled egg could taste so good!). Anyway, I'm trying to follow doctor's orders and take 20-30 minutes to eat, but by the time the tiny portion has been sitting there for 10 minutes, it is cold.
Anyone have suggestions other than cottage cheese or egg salad for soft foods that are already cold?

I also found that if I make sure I'm sitting up straight when I swallow, the discomfort goes away.

Laner got a reaction from sillykitty in Bread... oof
My doc said she won't tell me to never eat anything. She wants me to learn on my own what my body can tolerate and what it can't. She also said she feels like if she forbid me to eat something, the temptation would be awful and the guilt terrible if I gave it. She said each meal is a new chance and I should never think too poorly of myself if I slip once in awhile.
