My sleeve seemingly has an aversion to poultry. Ive tried to eat chicken and turkey cooked in various ways (baked, roasted, pulled, stir fried, etc) and my sleeve just does not like poultry anymore. I can get by with some Soups that have chicken in it. Otherwise it's painful to digest. So I guess I will have meatloaf or shrimp for Thanksgiving. Anyone else have difficulty digesting poultry?

Yes! Me too. I can barely get 1 or 2 bites in before I am so uncomfortable. I tend to avoid it for that reason. I eat a lot of shrimp and natural Peanut Butter. Even at 11 months I still prefer soft foods over meat. Chicken is also too dry for me. If I cut it up into the tiniest pieces and put it in a salad I do okay with it. Weird that when I combine it in a salad it works.

  2. Hi all, Just checking in. Yesterday was 11 months for me. I weighed in this morning at 121.6! Can you believe that my primary doctor is talking about me getting underweight! I feel like my legs are still pretty thick but it is all extra skin he said. My top half is really little at a size XS and bottoms are a size 0 or 2. I eat approximately 800 calories per day and exercise 2-3 days per week. I don't have up to date photos yet but the ones I am posting are from about 1 1/2 months ago and I am 5 pounds lighter now. I am 52 yo and feeling great.image.thumb.png.15c1cdbc10817af4f4b167ccc7164e40.png

Oh Louise, Congratulations!!!! Getting our sleeves was truly a major game changer right!? Send us a snap shot of the new you! Here I am with my wire fox terrier, Bobby. I am definitely enjoying much longer walks and adventures with him! I'm 21 pounds from my goal. Love The Obesity Code by Jason Fung, MD and look forward to his new cookbook coming out. How are you maintaining besides exercise? Is your hunger back? So very happy for you. Wow. ;]

    IMG_2339.jpeg

You look great. I love how you and Bobby match! So I am 11 months out as of yesterday and my hunger has only slightly increased. I am still only at around 800 calories per day. I don't exercise a whole lot but my doctor thinks because my calories are still pretty low that's why I am maintaining so easily.

  4. Hi all, I hope you are all enjoying the ways that weight loss has impacted your lives. I know that I have much more energy, and I have become more outgoing. I am now a regular exerciser and miss it when I don't do it. I was sleeved December 20, 2018 and have lost 79 pounds and reached my goal of 125 lbs.

Steve274 do you really think the benefits of the sleeve wear off over time ? I certainly can eat more than I could at the outset post surgery , but still have trouble with any dense foods . I am still living on and frankly loving my Protein Drinks , cottage cheese, yogurt and eggs with a little cooked veggies . Difficult to eat salad quite frankly . My sleeve still seems very restricting

Lolo 2020 I'm glad to hear that you still have trouble with dense foods. Mine is more with dense Protein than anything else. I can only eat about 1 oz of chicken or salmon. I too prefer, eggs and tuna salad and other soft things. My restriction is amazing. I was sleeved 12/20.

  6. I am 5 months out and have just

started having the exact same thing. Waves of nausea come from out of nowhere. I had to pull over one day while driving. Something tells me this is normal. I never had any problems with nausea even right after surgery. Very strange. I take an anti nausea pill that I had from the surgery when it happens and it helps a lot. I will discuss with my surgeon at my 6 month post up appointment.

I'm so glad you got that scale to move!!!! I ended up losing 1.3 for the week so I'll take that. I saw my nutritionist on Friday and I think I may stop doing the keto diet and just focus on meat and vegetables and see if that change helps things at all. You are looking fantastic! Thanks for following up. Have a great week!

    Hi Louise!!
I want to 1st commend you for not cheating or wrong any sweets and carbs! WHEW!! I too have been going up and down between 1-3 lbs difference on the scale. I think taking measurements of inches would be good for you to take. I'm down from a 3x to a 2x loosely and down at least 4 pants sizes comfortably as well, let's both try to stay away from that STUPID SCALE!And get back to focusing on what really is important, our overall health! We can start sharing recipes as well to give us all different ideas of fid we can try and enjoy without the guilt bc this is our lifelong goals, TO BE HEALTHIER! KEEP PUSHING DEAR!

Sent from my SM-G930VL using BariatricPal mobile app

Yes, that scale is evil for sure. I do take my measurements and have lost a lot in some areas and not so much in others. 4 pants sizes is incredible. Good for you. Are you buying new clothes yet? I haven't bought anything new because I have a whole closet full from the last time I was this size. I follow the Keto diet which was recommended from my surgeon but modified with more Protein. I do have some good recipes for that. But mind you Keto is high in fat so if you are doing a low fat diet it would probably not be for you.

  9. Hello December folks. I wanted to post some facts and get feedback. I was sleeved on Dec. 20, 2018. I have lost 40 lbs to date. I am 5'4". To this date I struggle to get in 700 calories a day. Until last week I was only getting in 600. I also really have trouble getting my Water in. Does anyone count Decaf coffee into their fluid goals? I have tried not to break the golden rule of comparing myself to others, but....I don't think I am doing as well as others. Now granted I started at a lower BMI than some so they say I will lose slower but I have only lost about 2 sizes on the bottom and 1 size on the top. I am a pear shape and I still have sooooo much fat on my thighs and arms. I still don't understand why a person who is much bigger than me can lose quicker. It just doesn't make sense to me. If I am at a deficit in calories I should lose weight, period. I find myself staying up late just to try to get my calorie goal in. Maybe that is the problem, that I am eating late. I do not eat any carbs except those that come from vegetables and Protein Shakes. I still need to drink at least one Protein Shake a day to get my Protein in. I have not had any fruit or grains or cheated with any junk food since day 1. Tomorrow is 16 weeks and I have been at a stall since last week. I go up and down 1 pound between 164 and 165. I exercise a couple days a week with just cardio for now. I am thankful that I have the restriction that I have. It is really hard for me to eat 2 oz of any protein source. I still prefer softer foods like eggs, tuna, etc. Any comments at all are appreciated.

  10. GRRRR, I need some lifting up y'all. I am at 8 weeks. I have lost 27.7 pounds from the day I started the pre-op diet which was two weeks and then I'm 8 weeks after surgery. I still can't get 64 oz of Water in. My average is between 40-50 oz. Part of it is once I started eating solid meat sources like chicken, I get so full after that i can't drink anything without it coming up for a couple hours after. I still am not at my Protein goal. Barely hitting 60 grams. I have a Protein Shake for Breakfast, cottage cheese or string cheese or tuna and nuts for lunch and then chicken, salmon or shrimp for dinner. I can only eat 1 oz of the meats before I am so full that I feel overstuffed. I have tried everything to get more protein in but I am just too full!!!!I am exercising for about 40 minutes 4-5 days a week. It's all I can tolerate with my fibromyalgia. I feel like I am wasting the gift of the sleeve with the restriction by not meeting my goals and I'm afraid that if it keeps going this way I will be a year or more out and not losing anything and then my appetite will come back. Then what. I know my BMI was not as high as some but I need to get 35 more lbs off. I lost a couple of inches on my body during the pre-op stage but nothing since the surgery. Feeling super bad about things.

Wow, you had surgery at 204lbs? That seems really low! I'm the same qith you when it comes to pills, I haven't had any problems. As far as the Protein, I drink the Premier Protein shakes (pre-made). They're actually good and they have 30grams each. Plus it adds to my liquids count, which is always difficult to get enough in daily.

Yes it was a relatively low weight to start with but I am an extremely petite individual, not just in height. My bone structure is small and both my primary doctor and the surgeon felt it was a good option for me. My thighs are the biggest part on me and it was getting hard just to walk and the pain in my legs was keeping me up at night. Not to mention a whole lot of other ailments that many people at much higher weights experience. The doctors and I all knew that I would never lose the weight on my own. I was gaining in excess of 10 lbs a year and had gained 50 pounds from 2015 until 2018. So I decided to try to mitigate the weight gain. I can't tolerate the Protein Shakes, they make me sick and then I get too full and can't get in any regular food which the doctor would prefer I eat.

Hi, I just posted I'm 3 months after surgery and have only lost 17 lbs. My heart goes out to you and I don't think your 6 lbs loss is normal. Do you have any other health conditions? What was your day of surgery weight?

I think you are among many who have only lost 6 lbs or less a month, myself included. I have only lost 14 lbs since my date of surgery. Don't worry!

  14. I can relate to you my friend. I am six weeks out and have only lost 14 pounds since surgery. I find myself stressing about it and that is not a good thing. I started at 204.4 presurgery, 194.2 day of surgery and am at 180.4 now. I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks and I am surprised that in 4 weeks I only lost 14 pounds additional. I know there is a lot that I am doing wrong at this time like not enough Protein, Water and calories. But I am doing the best that I can and I know it will all come together. It simply does me no good to compare to those that lost 30 lbs in the first month or to beat myself up about my progress. So don't stress, just give it time.

  15. I had my sleeve surgery on 12/20/18 and I had many concerns with my fibromyalgia as well. For the first 2 weeks or so, I felt great. I take tramadol for pain daily and was able to cut my dose in half. I was walking daily and everything seemed to be okay. I was worried about getting exercise in because everyone said it was key to success so I went to the gym a few times. Mind you I did not work out prior to surgery because it always put me in a flare up. Well even though I exercised for sometimes only 15 minutes I hit a wall and have had a major flare up that has lasted for weeks. I am back on the full dose of my Tramadol and no longer feel "great". My pre surgery weight was 204.4. After pre-op diet I was 194.2 and am now 6 weeks out and am 180.4. Everyone is different so don't compare yourself to others. I have never found anything that relieves my pain in over 25 years so I had no expectations going in to this. Taking pills was never really a problem for me after surgery. While I couldn't eat much, the pills went down fine. As far as recovery I think I did just as well as anyone else. I still have problems getting in the amount of Protein, calories and Water so I think that is why I stay so low energy all the time but who knows it could be the fibromyalgia. This is not meant to be a negative post just a summary of my experience. Positive attitude is everything when you are healing from a surgery. You will do great and it just takes a little coordination to get your meal prep in.

I had my surgery 12/20 so I am almost 5 weeks since surgery. I have been struggling to get more than 400 calories a day since I switched to puree. When I was on liquids it seemed to get easier over time but with puree I have been having trouble. I have tried Beans and cheese, or making Soups and then put them in the blender. I also just went back to work part time and it is hard to keep track of Water intake while there. Thanks for the advice!

I also had my surgery on 12/20. It is extremely hard for me as well to get past the 400 calorie mark. Lately I have been forcing myself to try to get to 600 and I feel so full and sick when I do. I can in no way do close to 64 oz of Water and I never make my Protein goal. Everyone tells me to just give it time. I am a little upset with myself because I feel like I will stretch out my sleeve if I keep overeating to try to get my calories in. I can also tell you that I am a much slower loser than most on this site. I have only lost 12.7 lbs since surgery. I am not bothered by that but I know it is because of the lack of calories, protein and water. I lose more on the days when I have more calories and fat. Have you tried adding no sugar Peanut Butter to your shakes? Two tablespoons will almost get you 200 calories. Even if you can just eat it off a spoon that would work. We are all so different that it amazes me. It just shows you that each body performs differently.

Anyone having issues on the purée diet? I am just not wanting to eat anything, and I have to force myself to eat, and I am still not hitting enough calories for the day.

I don't know when your surgery was but this has been a major problem for me since day 1. Thursday will be five weeks since surgery and I struggle every day with getting calories in. I have just now had a couple days of 600 calories and I generally feel sick from eating too much. My primary care doctor and my surgeon just keep saying give it time. One suggestion is to try to eat high calorie foods. If you can cook with olive oil or add it in some way or try refried Beans with cheese that will get your calories up. That was the advice my nutritionist gave me.

I get days like that also. I think it may have to do with low Protein and Water intake. You know some days I do great eating and some days I can't eat a thing. Be good to yourself today and give your body what it needs, maybe just some rest.

Why are you guys avoiding caffeine??? My post-plan discusses staying away from coffee, but nothing about other caffeinated beverages and there's even a suggestion for some Water that has caffeine added. The issue isn't caffeine--it's coffee, which can be irritating for your stomach (at least that's how it was explained to me). Do what your doctor says, but I have been having caffeine (in moderate quantity) and I am not seeing any downside to it so far.

Steve, I had my sleeve on December 20, 2018 and the way my doctor explained it to me is that coffee or products with caffeine are diuretics, which means it will make you pee and during this early stage when you may be struggling to get your fluids in, he doesn't want me to drink it and lose precious fluids that my body needs right now. He did however say that as soon as I am drinking at least 64 oz a day I can resume drinking caffeinated coffee or any other caffeinated drinks.

My nutritionist said to be drinking lots of Water. I wasnt getting the Protein though. She said that the more Water the better cause it flushes the fat out. I'm not getting the 64oz of water but I'm close.

    Jeannine

This water is real problem for me. When I'm not drinking a Protein Shake, I'm eating and trying to up my calories and it leaves very little time to drink all the water. It still makes me a little nauseous and I have tried adding all kinds of things to make it more appealing.

Hello Everyone! Does anyone use an app to track what you eat and drink? If so, which one? I was sleeved on 12/17/18 and I’m only down 18lbs.

I use MyFitnessPal. I was sleeved on Dec. 20th. I lost 10 pounds on the 2 week pre-op diet and only 9.6 pounds since surgery. I think your 18 lbs is fantastic. I don't know why I am losing so much slower than the rest of the folks here. I think it because I rarely get in 600 calories per day and not nearly enough Protein. I try each day but I can only eat what I can eat you know?

Really, because I have surgical glue over my incision sites--no tape at all.

I guess they did internal sutures, then the glue over it. I think the steri-strips were just additional. Anyway I saw the doctor this afternoon and he took the steri-strips off.

  23. Hi all! I'm 3 days post op. In a way I thought I knew what to expect, and I guess, all things considered, I am right on track with recovery. First 2 days the gas pain was awful. Today eating 3 oz of Soup was catastrophic but the one thing that is bothering the most is the fact that I am allergic to adhesive tape and stwe I

strips were used over each incision. We discussed it prior but they said there weren't any other options. Anyhoo, it is burning my skin. I won't share the horror of a photo lol. If not for that i wouldn't even need pain pills.

  24. I'm on my pre-op diet for surgery on the 20th. I'm two days into the diet and I am pretty sure this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever convinced myself to do. I've been known to be a quitter in my life and I'm afraid that I won't make it through. My state of mind right now is that "it's okay to be fat and unhealthy and hurt trying to walk around because my knees and back hurt and I'm okay if I die early from obesity. At least I am enjoying good food" I really hate everything I am eating right now and can't imagine doing this for the rest of my life and cutting out all the foods I like! I HATE vegetables and I'm not wild about meat either. Help you guys! I have fibromyalgia and i don't know if the stress of this has me flared up right now, or the rain, or that fact that my 14 yo dog won't eat, but I can barely get out of bed I am in so much pain, I feel like I will never be able to get out of bed again. Maybe now is not the right time for me to be doing this.

I'm really glad you asked that question because I'm 51 and wondered the same thing. I've already gone through menopause and that is one of the big reasons I put a lot of weight on. I figured it was going to be extra hard for my body to give up the weight.
