I really only crave salt these days. Which is fine for me because my sodium levels have been either low or borderline low. It just makes me so bloated! I'm glad I'm not the only one who it's happening to! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi all. So throwing some question out there... anyone have serious issues with their taste buds changing? Or issues with onions? I have made a few dishes I LOVED before surgery... and they just taste... wrong. Anything that has onion in it fills me up after a two or three bites if I'm lucky. I have celiac, so I just omit any bread products. For example: today I made philly cheesesteak sloppy Joe's for my family, just meat, onions, cheese, bell peppers, and seasoning. I portioned myself out 1/4 a cup and couldn't eat more than 3 small bites! Less than a third of that tiny portion because to me it tasted horrible and filled me up! My family inhaled it so I assume it tasted okay for them. But this isn't the first time either, a few other recipes I use to love, like bbq meatloaf, just taste wrong! I think a huge part is the onions, they expand my stomach and fill my tiny tummy. Am I crazy? Am I alone? I do so well calculating out all the calories, adding up my macros, and portioning out the servings. I then split my serving into 3 or 4 "tiny tummy" meals... but when I can't even eat it, it's kind of depressing. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

You got this! Maybe ask for a to go container and portion out what you can eat and set the rest aside so as you eat your smaller portions slow, you'll still "clear your plate". Or maybe find someone or a few someone's who will split an appetizer with you and just make that your meal and eat slow? I think it'll be a success and good practice for being out with others! The hardest part for me is always the drinking water and timing. It's harder when not at home but I think your got this! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Maybe I missed the point of this site and group... I thought we were in this group to support each other, not be judgemental and criticize others. To have a safe place to come and open up. I don't need to explain nor defend myself or my choices to you or anyone. I simply shared when a question was asked... maybe this is no longer a safe zone to do so. Olay so..... Most docs, NOT all docs. This is something that I spoke with MY doctor about before I started. I got the okay. Maybe I should elaborate more. I make a mixed drink with less than a single shot and have yet to finish one. I have not ever gotten drunk since surgery, barely even a light buzz. Because I listen to my body. I don't consume more than 800 calories a day, including the alcoholic drink. I have lost 31 pounds and hit onderland. I have averaged over 4 lbs of weight loss a week. Please don't criticize me and my Journey. You're not me. I'm not fooling myself. I'm not dependent. I don't get drunk. And I'm still losing weight. We are here to support each other. You may not like that I drink, but you have no right to judge or criticize. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

My surgery was on 10/17, and I've been having hard alcohol and wine in moderation and it hasn't effected my loss. I make sure I put the calories in MFP and just adjust things if I drink. I also keep it very light, never more then 2 shots worth of alcohol at a time (per day) ever. But that is just me Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Check in: well, I reached a stall this week and have lost no weight. I think part of it may be that my sodium and potassium were so low that I've been having to substitute my water for Gatorade and propel. So I'm all nice and bloated. I broke my stall by breaking the "rules." I stopped drinking my protein shakes for a week and my stall broke and the weight started falling off again. Don't be disheartened, you're doing great and it'll happen for you. I can't wait to see your victories and milestones! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi all! I just wanted to share this huge accomplishment! I am almost 7 weeks post op and down 31 pounds! Which means I finally hit ONEderland! I was hoping to get there by the end of the year thanks to my last stall. But O started IF of 16:8 and the stall broke! The weight just fell off like crazy... thank goodness! Let me tell you, between hitting this huge goal (for me), and finishing my Christmas shopping, I'm really in the spirit and looking forward to a great Christmas! It is a stomach bug. Very common this time of year but it causes nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The problem with getting it after this surgery.... it is almost impossible for us to be able to rehydrate with a trip to the ED. We can't chug fluids, and we shouldn't be throwing up if at all possible. So I went from hitting my water and protein goals to not eating or drinking anything for the past 3 days. It also tanked my sodium and potassium. Apparently being sick isn't what it use to be lol. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Has anyone had their first sickness with gastroenteritis? Holy crow Batman! It hit me out of no where and my surgeon referred me to the ED. After 2 L of fluid I was feeling a lot better, but my sodium and potassium were low so they had me take a pill and sip on water to test my stomach. That resulted in 3 more hours there, another liter of fluids, and about 20 bathroom trips. I chose not to be admitted and am going to try home first but DANG!!! I came home 5 pounds heavier, my abdomen cramping like crazy, and my pouch giving me a second taste of anything I put in it. Hopefully I can sleep through it and tomorrow will be better and I can get fluids down. I do not want a return trip. Anyone else been through this yet? I'm ready to never do it again Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Tespo: Liquid Vitamin and Dispenser

If you are looking into liquid vitamins, I highly recommend Mary Ruth's Liquid vitamins. I found them on Amazon and LOVE them. I have Celiac Disease and have to be careful about additives and these are gluten free, and have all the vitamins that my NUT and surgeon want me to have. Blue is the info for the night time ones and red is for the morning. The only downside is the 8 carbs per serving but these are pretty much the only carbs I have all day so it doesn't bother me at all. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Glass of wine week 5 post op

I am going on 6 weeks post op. I am a wine drinker, I love it. I will have what equates to maybe a shot or 2 of wine in my glass. It is something I sip on to relax from exhausting 12 hour shifts at work. However, I also listen to my body... if it starts to upset my pouch or I feel like I've hit the level of tipsy I'm comfortable with, my SO finishes the last gulp for me. I've yet to blackout, get drunk, or be in pain from it. But that's me and my body. Each person is different. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

First things first.... take a deep breath. You seem very overwhelmed, I can't give you answers but can ask questions and offer suggestions that might help. Have you tried changing consistencies? There are lots of soft foods like yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, that all have different consistency and can trigger your gag reflex or create that sensation. Have you tried chewing ice and using that to numb your throat and help prevent the choking sensation? Weight loss amount really does vary from person to person. Depending on what your start weight was, 30 pounds isn't too much. To compare: my surgery was on the 17th and I've lost 25 pounds with a surgery weight of 230. You know your body. If YOU are concerned about the rate of loss, call your surgeons office and they should have an RN available to talk to you and can check in with your dr if they are concerned. As far as poo goes... Milk of Magnesium mixed with prune juice, also known as a brown cow, is what we use here at the hospital to get even our most difficult patients to "release the kraken". Just be able to stay home all day and drink Gatorade! Lol. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Hi all! I know this is technically week 1 check in but I'm figuring it's never too late to join and be held accountable. Challenge Starting weight: 211.6 (my weight on the 16th) Current weight lost: 207.2 Losing or maintaining weight: losing Fitness/exercise goal: 5 days/week of turning fitbit green: 13,975 steps, 7 floors, 60 active minutes, 5 miles, and 2,687 calories Total weight loss at the end of challenge: (Post January 1st 2019) ??????? Check in: I am having a hard time with my intake. I am pretty much following a 16:8 IF. Not really by choice, but more because I work 12 hour shifts, then sleep, then have to go back. And because I have a physical job, I can only sit and eat on my lunch. Which does help keep me from drinking 30 min before and after eating. I am still having a hard time with certain temps. Food and liquid has to either be hot or cold, warm or room temp causes nausea. At least I'm hitting my liquid & protein goals and finally broke through my "stall" Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

3 days post op and I’m in hell

The pouch can be temp sensitive I have learned! Mine likes hot and cold. Anything room temp or lukewarm makes me extremely nauseous all over again. Good luck! I use to lay with a fan on my face because for me the cool helped. You got this! It does get better Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sleeve Recovery Time

I too had an event 3 days after my surgery. I napped up until the last possible moment, then took my Tylenol and Zofran before I left. I just sat and chewed ice and let people come to me to visit. Most knew I was post op, though not from what, and I just told them I was nauseous. Then I used the nausea as my reason to leave after about 2.5 hours and I promptly went back to sleep after I got home. I think you will be surprised with how weak and tired you will feel vs being in pain, but your body will have been lacking food and using its reserves. It's shockingly exhausting. So as long as you keep the littles from headbutting your tummy or lifting any of them, including yours, I think it will come down to your energy level at that time. Oh! And that pesky internal stitch, that might still be smarting so be careful! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

3 days post op and I’m in hell

I second this! I had really extreme nausea and chewing on ice got me through the first few days when nothing else would stay down. After I had a cup of ice or so is when I would get my meds down or attempt my premier protein with added protein powder. The ice helped with numbing my stomach and so it didn't reject the protein in small doses. Plus it helped with the cravings to eat. My brain just wanted to chew. 21. I highly recommend that you go to a shoe store and get fitted for a pair of Hoka One Ones. My SO got these for me right before surgery and it was the best $140 I ever let him spend on me. I work as an orderly at a hospital. Which means for 12 hours I am moving on hard concrete, pushing beds and walking between 8,000 to 10,000 steps in 7 hours. I use to go home with my feet, knees, and hips hurting, back aching, and I didn't want to move. Not the case anymore! These shoes relieved not only my foot pain, but my knees and hips as well. I just pulled a 14 day stretch of 12 hour shifts and there was no pain for the first time ever!! hokaoneone.com Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

NSV!!! After what felt like the longest two week "stall" as my body adjusted, I lost 6 pounds in a week. So I thought I'd try on my winter rain coat I couldn't fit in last year... my arms couldn't even move in it. But now it fits perfectly everywhere! Albeit a little snug when I sit, but I'll take it! I remember crying when I got it because it was a gift and the "largest size they had." I'm loving my new tool, I'm down 26.6 lbs from my SW and 38.2 lbs from my HW! I had my surgery on October 17th, and I still get pain on the right side from time to time. I went back to work after 2 weeks because I had no choice. I have a pretty physical job, and when I do more physical stuff, like push heavier items, I feel where the muscle is healing still. It's better when I remember to focus on my posture and use my legs and back muscles more. Then it's more of a dull ache that goes away with rest and sleep. I think you will be fine, muscle scar tissue just hurts as it builds sometimes. Listen to your body and just pause and rest when you need to if possible. Tell me about your immediate post-op recovery!

I don't remember a whole heck of a lot. I am a light weight with meditation and they hit me really hard. I had a lot of nausea issues. I was on 2 different IV anti nausea meds and also had a patch on to help keep it under control. I did move myself onto my new bed but I used the pain button mostly for when I had a coughing fit from the agitation of being intubated during surgery. My blood sugar also went crazy and I was requiring insulin within the first 12 - 24 hours. I haven't needed it before and don't take any meds for it. But I got up and walked, I just don't remember it. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Fluids

Try eating ice, it worked wonders for me. Chewing it slowed me down and it numbed my stomach and sat the best. I'm 2 weeks post op now and chewing ice is still how I get most of my fluid intake. My pouch doesn't tolerate room temp well at all Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
