I was really stuck between the sleeve and the DS but after my pre-op GI, my surgeon determined that the DS would be my best option due to my increased bile reflux. The DS will hopefully eliminate that. I have a college friend who has undergone the DS and has thrived. I researched it for a year before I ever made an appointment with a surgeon.

Hi! Good luck with your surgery! I am scheduled for bypass on 2/13. What made you decide on the duodenal switch procedure? I had never even heard of it until one of my required life skills classes. I do not believe that my surgeon's office offers it so I am just curious about what it is.

I was told no on fruit bars. Popsicle also makes sugar free tropical flavors

I got Bordan's tropical flavored sf popsicles yesterday and tried one; they were pretty good.

Hello everyone! I haven't been on in a while because things have been a hot mess. I am very disappointed in my surgeon's office. It is a long story, but the short version is they never sent my file to insurance. A lot of work on my end trying to be the middle person to get things done because the surgeon's office dropped the ball. My surgery has been approved by insurance and the date is now February 13. I start the Robard diet today!

Hi everyone! It has been a rough few weeks. The surgeon's office set a surgery date for me, but then never submitted my file to insurance. After a lot of back and forth, things got submitted and officially approved. My surgery date is February 13th and I start the 2 week Robard diet today. For the first 12 days I have 3 shakes, 1 bar, and 1 Soup. The last 2 days are 4 shakes and 1 bar. I am sure it's going to be a struggle, but I am going into it with a positive attitude.

On February 3 (10 days before), I have to go on a no-sugar, low carb all-liquid diet. Unfortunately, no solid foods, like bars, for me. 😥I am looking forward to the little bit of "food" I can have, such as sugar-free Jell-o and sugar-free popscicles!

@CeeCee2018, we share a surgery date! I started my pre-op diet today. I’m only allowed three Protein Shakes, one sugar free Jello, and one sugar free popsicles per day! This is gonna be tough, but I’m looking forward to a jump start on my weight loss.

Good morning everyone! I apologize if this has been asked before, but this is my first time in the post-op section. Last week I received my surgery date, February 6th (woohoo!), so I thought that I would head over to this section and start reading some posts.
Anyway, this may be a weird question, but what did you guys do at home during your recovery period? I am planning to take about 3 weeks off at work and I am hoping that boredom won't get the best of me while I am at home! I know I will have to go for walks during the day. I bought a sudoku book and crossword book and also a couple puzzles to do, but i think that will only last me a few days. What did you guys do during your time off? Are there any recommendations for iPad apps or television shows to watch? I am just worried that I am going to be stuck at home by myself with nothing to do!

This is good advice that I need! I am terrible with prime - I have already set some money aside that I am saving in case something sparks my eye while I am bored at home lol

Whatever you do, stay off of Amazon. That definitely can become an expensive compulsion that takes the place of eating. LOL

I did a lot of streaming. And I watched some old shows I loved so that if I zonked out, I didn't really miss anything. Friends, West Wing. Also watched the Kominsky Method, which is really good. Read a fair amount. Set an alarm so I went walking at least a bit every hour and a half or so - I walked around my row of town houses and every time I tried to go a bit father than before. Watched a couple movies I'd been meaning to watch on Netflix.

call me crazy, but i enjoyed having 2.5 weeks off from work. i binged watched a bunch of tv shows and relaxed. i was really lucky that i was only on pain meds for 3 days (which made me super sleepy). after that, i relaxed at home and with friends.

I'm taking 2 weeks off and know I will be bored out of my gourd!!!!

I figure I will take the dog on some short walks weather permitting, I've got a baby blanket I am crocheting too so I am sure I will get that finished.
And who knows, depending on how I feel, I very well might go back to work a few days early.

I had mine a week or so before Christmas and felt way better than anticipated. I shopped, wrapped presents, cooked etc in prep for that. I did watch a few cooking shows and The Marvelous Ms Maisel on Netflix. The week after Christmas I cleaned out all my closets and reorganized drawers (husband did the heavy lifting). I got so much accomplished- couldn’t believe it! Good luck- hope you feel as good as I did!

I went back to work after a week (I am a desk jockey). Join a gym. Spend time there walking on the treadmill. Don't just sit at home. Once you are off pain meds, generally, you are cleared to drive. I had surgery Tuesday, came home Wednesday. Slept Thursday. Did half a day's work from home Friday. Went into the office on a slightly reduced scheduled on Monday. Went and did the grocery shopping on Saturday for my family but used some help at the store to load the car and get the stuff in side at home (made hubby and kids do that) due to 10 pound lifting restriction. I just went on with life.

Hey All - Day 4 Post Op update - I got out into the sun today for about an hour and also walked a local museum. Eating a Bariatric Pal creamy Soup for my main meal. I've been mostly hydrating with Water and Power Ade. My tastes did change and I'm not a fan of my popsicles anymore and even my favorite Powerade Flavor I'm not a fan of anymore. Otherwise, I did gain about 7 lbs from the fluids from surgery. I'm back down to my day of surgery weight. Also was worried that I was constipated but nope. (that's not TMI - apparently everyone wonder's when they will poop). Ha! 4 Days post-op but it did happen.
Was kinda obsessing about food even though I wasn't hungry - I have very bizarre siblings who were texting pictures of our favorite family curries and what they were eating. We aren't very close - so not sure why they are choosing to do this now. Mean? Clueless? Dunno...but WOW. It did hurt my feelings. Just Why!?!? Anywho so that's why I decided to have a creamy soup to 'fill' me up.
Otherwise, doing well. Not heavily fatigued at all. Will take a nap tho' in a bit just to heal. I've been wearing the compression belt non-stop. Have tomorrow and Tues off and then back to work on Wed.
HUGS to all of you who have surgery tomorrow and who are doing the liquid diet! Wishing you all well!!!!
