  1. I was off for 2 weeks. I wasn’t 100% when I went back but it was doable since I work in an office.

    Bowl movement

You’re welcome. The best thing is to keep on top of your water and take something before you get to backed up. I learned this the hard way.

I would try milk of mag. I know some people take miralax everyday to help keep themselves regular.

    Bowel prep before surgery?

I had to do it before surgery and thankfully I only had to drink one bottle. I got the grape flavored one. I used a straw and just drank it in 3 big gulps with a shot of apple juice in between. You can always call your dr and see if you can take something else instead.

    Getting nervous!

My insurance is BCBS of California. I had to wait for approval before they would schedule the surgery.

    Getting nervous!

I was nervous that I wouldn’t get approved. It took my insurance 3 weeks to approve it so on that time I just forgot about it. I just relaxed and told myself I did everything I needed too.

    Fears wls

My biggest fear was the anesthesia not working on me and not being able to have the surgery. My other fear was not waking up after the surgery and this was my 3rd surgery I’ve had in my lifetime. My fears didn’t come true and I am doing pretty well post op

    When do they do labs?

The only lab test that needed to be submitted to the insurance was a TSH. All other lab work was done after insurance approval 2 days before surgery.

    BPD/DS anyone?

They haven’t given me any foods to avoid just to eat low fat. I am still doing full liquids at the moment and I haven’t gotten any smelly gas. I’ve past gas and there wasn’t a smell. My first 2 bm after surgery smelt pretty bad haven’t since. I’ll find out once I move to soft foods of certain foods cause it. My hightes BMI when I met my surgeon was 59

    BPD/DS anyone?

I chose the DS. From the start it is what I wanted. There are more risks of nutritional deficiencies so you have to make sure you are taking all your vitamins each day. The smelly gas is associated with eating more fat. My surgeon is very pro DS for those with very high BMI. I’m not even 2 weeks out and I have already lost 14 pounds and wouldn’t change my decision.
  13. I didn’t have a liquid pre diet just a liver shrinking diet of high protein low carb. I wasn’t very strict and cheated on my diet probably 5 of the 14 days. I would be good lose 4 pounds and be discouraged and then cheat. I was good the last 4 days before surgery and was really worried my surgeon would start surgery and then stop because my liver was still large. My surgeon doesn’t care if you lose weight on the diet as long as your liver shrinks. Well I didn’t need to worry because my liver did shrink and he was able to do the surgery.

    March 27th surgery date

It hurt me to take a deep breath for a few days after surgery as well. It did go away after a while though

    March 27th surgery date

Tereza- the dietitian for my programs says salads are fine after about 3 months post op. Like briswife15 said just make it with high protein foods. As for me I’m officially 1 week after surgery and if it was for the achy soreness in my abdomen I wouldn’t even believe I had surgery. I have lost 10 pounds so far!
