  2. I did look in the topic list and didnt see anything that would come close to this topic if I did miss it I am sorry...
I just had my surgery on the 16 of oct and have been having weird pains in random places such as hip, rump, back of the upper arm. It feels as if I am pulling a small section of the muscle off the bone or tearing of the muscle. Any one else having this type of issues and have you figured out how to fix it?

  3. Had my lap band 2011, just had my revision October 1st. Could use someone to talk to that has had revision. I have some post op questions? Also help entry of my weight and surgery date in my profile? Anyone can help a girl out??
I also had the lap band before I got my sleeve... my doc has seen recently published research that the band should come out 8 to 10 weeks before you get the sleeve. From what I understood while taking the band out it gives the doc a chance to get all the scar tissue broke up and healed before having the surgery for the sleeve. Which is what I had done. He was excited after surgery to tell me I have a normal sized sleeve instead of being a little bigger due to the scar tissue.
I have my 2 week check up on Oct 31 so I am sure I will be on letting everyone what the official weight loss is !

  4. Hey yall

I’m 4 days post op and I still didn’t do the number 2, is this normal??
    Should I be worried ?
I just had my first BM on day 8. I was passing gas so I knew I wasn't constipated or impacted. I normally only go 1 time every 4 or 5 days anyways.
U need to remember what exactly you are taking in. I know my diet right now isn't anything that my body need to get rid of right away. Mostly still liquids anyway.

  5. I had my sleeve performed on October 17 (yay sleeve! Down 24 pounds officially from the start of the pre-op liquid diet to today). From waking up from anesthesia to the next morning was VERY rough. I kept gagging up bloody saliva and dry heaving, if I had anything in my stomach I would have been vomiting. I couldn’t keep ice chips or sips of Water down- within thirty minutes more gagging blood. I was in and out of consciousness between the blood, and since my mom was out of state I’m grateful my surgeon called her when he was done because it wasn’t until about 11 pm I felt okay enough to text people (I woke up around 4 pm, surgery was at 1) and she would have been freaking out. Nurses said I wasn’t allowed to walk around my room until the first day after surgery, so I ended up having a panic attack around 4 am due to claustrophobia of being trapped in that bed with the blood clot leg things and the nurse taking a while to get to me. Took a Xanax, then gagged up blood an hour later and was heaving so hard I peed myself. Thankfully that was the last of it and I’ve been pretty dang great ever since.

I don’t want this thread to scare people, but I remember texting my mom that night that “I didn’t expect to be this miserable.” I genuinely was surprised at my inability to keep down Water and about how uncomfortable I felt even with all the meds I was on (that first night they had me on dilaudad and an anti-nausea. There may have been more, but that is what I remember). My description of choice was “an over inflated beach ball that got hit by a truck”.

I would love to hear about the first 12 or so hours after you woke up from anesthesia in the hopes of learning more and sharing the information.
I dont remember anything about being in the recovery room before I was sent to my actual room. I was given a push for pain meds. Any time I felt nauseous I told the nurse and they would give me a different type of med for it. I had a cath so no bathroom runs for me. But they did have me up that first day to walk. I was very weak so I only made it to the next room door and turned around and went back to the room. I was so sore that first night in the hospital I remember thinking what the hell did I do to myself. My stomach muscles hurt to bad. Especially they site they took the stomach out of.
My first taste of any liquids was the next day when i had to drink barium to check for leaks.... Mmmmmm that was such tastey treat.... NOT!! Lol.. After that I was allowed Clear Liquids. As the day went on I was able to get the cath out and move more I still didnt do laps around the halls but I made it a little farther each time. I was relieved to be released around 6 PM the second day. I was just happy to be home where I could relax and do what I needed when I wanted to do it. I will go for my 2 week check up on the 31st of Oct so it will be my first official weighing in since surgery. I am curious to see what that scale will say.

Over all I believe I was blessed in the way my recovery has gone!

  6. While scrolling through past postings I noticed there is" Guys who started over 400lbs" in the Guys Room. Well I believe if there is" gravy for the rooster" there certainly should be "gravy for the hen " especially those of us with meatier drumsticks. Are there challenges we face that aren't faced by our 200 lb sisters? Do we tend to lose weight faster or slower than smaller flock members?
Weigh in my sisters, weigh in!
I started this whole journey last Oct 2017 when I found out that my back issues and pain I have been in for over 20 years was found to be caused by the disappearance of a disk in my lower back along with my spine being very miss aligned. The orthopedic told me he wouldnt do surgery to fix my back until I lost 50 pounds and not to take to long to do it because he couldn't understand why I wasn't paralyzed already. I weighed in a 365 lbs then.
In the process of doing all the hoop jumping for the insurance company for me to have the sleeve done I lost 35 lbs in a year. I just had my sleeve done on the 16 of October and have no clue what my weight is ringing in at, at this time, due to the fact I dont have a home scale that can handle my weight to begin with. I go back to the doc the 31 for my 2 week check up and am curious to see how much I have lost.
I know I have lost some but not knowing the amounts is driving me nuts right now. All I can say is my pants are getting looser and I might need a belt soon to keep them up
I love the fact that this thread is started I am over 40 years old (44 to be exact), and over 300 lbs. I know reading others stories and success helps me know I can do this and I am not the only one who has had to go threw it all.

  8. I know there are a million posts about Hair loss on here but I’m adding one more. Because I can.

So I’ve haid super thin hair for years since I have Alopecia. I wear wigs most of the time. But this weekend my Hair loss kicked itself into overdrive. Below is a picture of me 2 years ago (before starting to wear wigs) and a picture of my decision to just accept my hair loss and make it my own! I’ll eventually go to a barber and have them clean it up but whatever I love how easy it is! Also a picture of me in my wig because damn I’ve lost HALF my face!

Also... ran my first 5k this AM ️ loving my life right now.image-0.00298023223876953.jpg.560798db7a322ebbe01f55a60d3e86da.jpg

  9. Hi All. I’ll be 4 weeks sleeved next Tuesday. I’m headed back to work next Thursday. Not sure how to pack lunch/snacks for the day. As of this week I’m on soft/puréed food. What does your typical day look like food-wise? I just purchased a bento box with compartments off Amazon to help but I’m not sure how to pack. I can tolerate a lot of liquids/smoothies but am scared to try meat Protein right now. Help please! Thanks!
I have not made it to soft foods yet but my doc suggested deli Turkey or chicken as a soft.. and dont forget cottage cheese

  10. I figured it would be nice to have a section where we could just confess to some of the potentially dumb things we've done, pre or post op. Just so others can see we are all human. I want this to be kept as civil as possible, where people can own up to things without anyone else chiming in with anything negative, we all know what we did wasn't "right" but I'm sure we ALL have done something we shouldn't have.

    I'll start.

I cheated on my pre-op diet a few times. I also like to find loop holes and exploit the crap out of them. I drank beer for a week+ on my pre-op, because it didn't say I couldn't. I only stopped after I was forced to, because my wife asked my surgeon and of course they said "no"... boo. I also ate a whole slice of French meat Pie at my Dad's 60th birthday luncheon.

I cheated on my post-op diet/puree stage a bit too. I ate rice cakes and Protein chips or other veggie chips. Not a lot, but it happened. I "pureed" a steak and cheese sandwich once. I ate a few fried ravioli on my puree stage as well.

This past weekend, I had a beer. My wife and I took my parents out to dinner at a local casino, it's Restaurant week, so we found a good looking location and went out to eat, part of the deal was that you got a draft beer with your meal. So, I had a shipyard summer ale with my grilled chicken parm sandwich (only ended up eating 3 bites of the chicken and none of the bread).

I did all that thus far and nothing bad happened.
I understand the changes are to ensure we stick to our diets, but understanding that we are all human and WILL either slip up or just stray from our diets on purpose like I did. It's good to see that, it's possible to still live and be able to enjoy a few things we "shouldn't" without any negatives happening.

    So, what's your WLS confession?
I and only 6 days out from surgery and I am really having a had time of resisting Chips and dip that my every so supportive husband brought into the house last night! HELP!!!!

  11. I had surgery this 18th and over had back pain like a pulled muscle. I sorta chalked it up to the hospital bed and positions I tend to be in.

Maybe it's actually referred pain, from the operation sites?

  12. How much weight have you lost? People tend to forget that fat doesn't reside only subdermally, we've got Visceral fat as well. Visceral fat protects muscles, bone, tendons, etc. So when we lose a lot of weight, we lose Visceral fat as well, this tends to cause some "slack" around the areas of greater loss, this can lead to pain due to lose joints. Working the muscles groups around problematic joints can help tighten everything up, I had some pretty noticeable issues with my hips, and I found out I've got spinal arthritis, didn't know until the fat stopped protecting the nerves, I can feel it now though!

With your rump, does it only hurt when sitting on something hard? Don't forget that you are losing a lot of "padding".

Stretching and targeted work outs can help get everything back into place.
I am not sure how much weight I have lost since I am only on day 6 after surgery. I am just praying that it's not the start of shingles from all the stress of the operation. But you do give me another reason and that it could be a possibility of something else. Which is a relief!!
    Thanks for a possible explanation!

  13. Hey everyone! I’m new here and getting my surgery date Wednesday. For those that have gone thru the surgery already, what are some things that you wish you would have brought to the hospital? Thanks in advance!
I took wore my comfy PJs and slippers to the hospital and that's how I also came home. I did miss my favorite blanket tho (yes I have a whooby. Lol)

  15. I don't know if I titled this right. I had a hysterectomy last year in August. Then I had my VSG in April of this year. I have heard women who have wls get pregnant after losing weight, or their menstruals get regular, etc. My Dr left my ovaries because they are producing hormones perfectly. Well, I had my wls 6 months ago and I've lost a little over 45 pounds on my last visit which was at the end of September. I have an overactive bladder from being obese and the multi surgeries in my abdomen area. A few days ago, I noticed some blood on my panty liner and kinda got freaked out. I do have a dr appointment for my yearly on the 1st of November and I am going to talk to my doc about it. But I was wanting to hear from my women on here if they have experienced anything like this.
Hello, first I am sorry for the issues you are having... second I had a hysterectomy the same as yours a few years ago.... and just had my WLS on the 16 of Oct. Having any bleeding from down there is not good. I feel like you should be calling the obgyn and have things checked quickly you dont want to have a tear in You're old suture site That could lead to an infection. Your immune system is already compromised from the weight loss surgery Please go get checked out.

  16. Awesome - another surgery buddy! It was tough at first, but I'm doing a little better now at 5 days post-op. I'm struggling to get my Water in and have only had 1 Protein Shake in 5 days, no other food, just some broth. (not good! I know.) I feel like I'm sipping constantly but still barely taking in 24 oz. I also drink at night since I haven't been sleeping well, which helps me get to 36 oz in 24 hours. 64oz feels impossible right now. As far as the pain goes, I definitely feel a little better every day. As of today, I only have some soreness at the incision site where my stomach was removed, my other incisions feel fine. I originally planned to go back to work on Tuesday, but may need another day or two off. Not really for pain, but because I have no energy until I manage to get some calories in.
    How are you doing?
I am getting total of 2 Protein Shakes in a day with 4 oz of blenderized food and 40 oz of power aid 0 in a day. Still not enought fluids I will probably have to go in tomorrow for some Iv fluids. I have caught a cold so that's been a fun thing to try to blow your nose or cough for that matter. I cant stand the taste of broth so my Clear Liquids were sugar free Jello, power aid 0 and crystal light... I still havent touched any plain water. But over all I cant complain.

  17. I just had my surgery on the 16th of Oct. I haven't had any issues besides the pain... I can deal with high levels of pain from breaking my arms legs ankles.... but the pain from having my stomach cut and trying to move around has been just about putting me in tears. But I am still getting at least 10 minutes of a walk in around the house they are just in turtle mode. Lol

  18. Hi All! Newbie here with a surgery date of Oct 16th. I'm so excited, but also nervous...and anxious. I am also starting a little early with eliminating carbonation, caffeine, taking lots of Vitamins, etc. Hopefully being prepared will make the transition a little easier. On one hand, I feel like I should enjoy the next few weeks of "freedom" while I'm still able to, but on the other hand, I'm just ready to get it done and over with!
kdiddle, what type of work do you do? Just curious, because I told my surgeon I'm in accounting and he said I would likely only need a week off.
I just had mine done on the 16th too... how are you doing?
