  1. IndigoGirl55,

I was banded on 6/2 and have since lost 19 pounds. I stared out at 215 and I am currently at 196 (my goal weight is 150). However, my weight has been at a stand still since two weeks ago. I am not losing, nor am I gaining. I am scheduled for my first fill the end of July. Hopefully, that will allow me to lose more weight. I am still eating the right things and not exceeding my caloric, fat, carborhydrate, etc. intake each day. Do you think that the fill will assist me with losing more weight?:P

  3. No problem - everyone can come to this thread and ask questions, get support - LBT has become my transfer addiction:lol:.

My doc had me do the opti fast too - but luckly it was only for one week and I couldn't stand the Soup (tomatoe which was all they had - my doc provided pre-op diet food) so I was allowed a 4oz of fish and a salad for dinner - the bars were pretty good - I still have some in my pantry.

But you all do need to be aware - I give tough band love (operative word being love) I will not attack you or put you down - but I will tell you to pull up those boot straps and move forward.

I want you all to feel as good as I do - I feel 10 yrs younger - have 100% more energy and am just so much happier with me. I am proud of what I have accomplished and I want you all to feel the same way.

The band does make a hard job just a little easier - It makes it doable, but it still is going to take work on your part.

  4. Jtejada,

I was banded 6/5. I'm on the mushie stage now for the next three weeks. My surgeon suggests 2-4 oz of mushies at a time and aiming for 6 mini meals right now(then going to three meals). I log my calories and right now I'm hitting about 600-700 a day without being hungry. I have my guidelines in a pdf so if you want me to email them to you let me know.

You're doing great with your weight loss!

    Linda

    Linda,

Your plan sounds great! Would you mind sharing it with me as well. If you need my email address, please advise.

    Thanks.

  5. My surgery was on 6/2. To date I have lost 20 pounds.

After having my surgery I found out at my 1 week post-op visit that all of the reference materials/diet guidelines given to me were for bypass NOT the Lap Band. I was told they didn't have any materials yet, but are working on it. So frustrating. Everything I thought I knew may or may not apply to me now.

The surgeon told me I can have soft foods. I've been living off of yogurt, cottage cheese, thinly sliced lunch meat and the occasional piece of fruit or cheese.< /span>

My daily caloric intake is less than 500 calories. Each of my three meals weighs 2-3 oz. My 2 daily Snacks are also 2-3oz each. Am I eating correctly? Am I eating enough? I feel very confused. I want to do this the right way.

    HELP!

    Jennifer

    :sneaky:

You're doing wonderfully! My surgery was also on 6/2, but I only lost 15 lbs. I am on soft foods as well, but I have had vegetable chilli, 1/2 soft chicken taco, yogurt, broths from Soups, and lots of fluids (i.e., Isopure, Water, and crystal light).

  6. WHen you say that you eat what you like but with limitations, please elabotate. I would also like to eat some of the foods I like but in moderation. For example, today I had a half bowl of oatmeal and for lunch I had a half patty melt. The meals were very pleasing to me, but I would like to learn of other ways to eat what I like in moderation. I am a new banner (banded June 2, 2009), I am still kind of sore on the left side where the band is located. I have not yet began to exercise, but I am working more. Still afraid to over-exert myself, as I am still very sore.

Any ideas of what I can do now for exercising and eating healthier?

  7. Try some gas x strips, if they don't help call your surgeon right away. Good luck to you. Sending positive vibes your way!

Surgery is over!!! I was up and walking the same day, but taking it very easy as my doctor kept me overnight for observation. I went for my follow-up prior to returning the work within 7 days following my discharge, and everything seemed to be going as planned. I am healing according to what the doctor had expected, but my abdomen was still very swollen from the surgery. Therefore, the doctor stated that he was unable to find the port for a possible fill. That was normal according to the doctor, but I am still swollen and soar on the left side where the lapband was placed.

My question to you is, "How long does it take before the swelling and soreness subside?". I would like to begin working out, and my next appointment for a fill is July 26, 2009. I hope the swelling goes down then -- I'm kind of concerned about that.

Also, my exciting news is that I have already lost 15 pounds and moving along for additional loss. Last week I started with cream of wheat for Breakfast and chicken broth for lunch and dinner. This week I am eating fat free oatmeal for Breakfast and last night I had a half of a soft taco which was so very yummy. However, but after taking a couple of bites, I was done with that taco.

However, I noticed that as the days go by, I am beginning to get hungry. Is this because I need my first fill?

Hope all is well with you and everyone on this forum. Your response concerning this matter is so very much appreciated.

In the midst of my journey!!!!

  8. I totally did that about 2 weeks ago, I had done a kickboxing class, although low impact, it did hurt. I got scared that I slipped my band or something, my dr ofc was closed and I wasn't sure if I should go to the ER so I decided that I'd waited it out thinking that I overdid it and sure enough the next day I was A-OK. If you don't feel comfortable call your doctor right away!

    Foxxy,

When did you begin exercising following our surgery? I had my surgery the morning of June 2 and my abdomen is still sore and very swollen. I can't wait to start my workout regime, but I can't due to the swelling of my abdomen. I am beginning to think that something is work. Following my visit to the doctor's office prior to returning to work, my doctor told me that the swellingness was normal. That was last week, but I am still swollen and sore. Is this normal?

  10. Hi there. I guess you could put me in the "success" category. I'm am a 35 year old female who began my lap band journey on April 30, 2007. In September 2006 I had reached the point where I couldn't take it anymore. I went to my doctor and told him that I was interested in lapband. I had to follow the six-month "diet" before going to a surgeon. I did that and didn't lose any weight. So...off to a surgeon I went.

My surgery was planned for April 30 and I had to do a two week liquid diet (Optifast). So...on April 16, 2007 I had a "Farewell to Fat" party at my house. I was done with it and ready to begin my "new life". On April 17 (the day that I started the liquid) I weighed 275 pounds.

I am married (struggling with issues currently) and I have two lovely little boys. I work for the federal government in Washington DC. I have been with this agency for over 17 years.

To date, I have lost 128 pounds. I have a new life...I feel great, have tons of energy and feel like a completely different person. I know how hard this is to do by yourself so I am available to assist anyone in any way that I can. I know that if I can do it...anyone can...

Feel free to contact me and I'll assist you as best I can.

    MinnesotaLady,

I enjoyed reading your post. I too am married with various issues that I am currently trying to Iron the kinks out of, however, that is now on the back burner for now as my surgery is scheduled for tomorrow moring. I have to do my own injections at home following the surgery. I have never had to give myself injections. The injections are for preventing post blood clots and the medicine is to be injected into my stomach through the syringe each day for about 10 days.

Have you or anyone had to do this following surgery? If so, what was you experience with this procedure? I am simply not a fan of needles.

Any thoughts concerning this matter is so much appreciated.

  11. Hi just a quick note to tell you just go for it it will work but you have to go into it nowing that this is only a tool and everything you put in your mouth is going to count unlike the people who have gastric bypass where alot of there food goes right through without the body using it. I feel it was a good choice for me, and I am sure if you know all the rules and follow them you will be a success. I have 32 LBS. to go I got a little sidetracked but thats not the lapbands fault it's mine because I'm not using it properly. As for the week of liquids i don't recall being on liquids just before surgery, so sorry cant help you there. just afterwards i was on liquids for a few days then to puree foods. I wish you luck and if you have anyother questions you can private message me i dont mind we are here for each other, ok. Good Luck! you will be glad you got banded

    Minnesotalady,

Thanks so very much for your reply to my message. It was so very encouraging. I am more inspired to work diligently at maintaining my caloric intake prior to and following the surgery, as I too want to see good progress. It would be nice to be on the liquid diet for only a few days following the procedure, but unfortunately, I will have to do it for a couple of weeks prior to moving to puree foods, yuk. Nevertheless, the results will make the hard work worth my efforts.

    Thanks again.

  12. Hello Everyone,

I am scheduled for surgery on 6/3. My Pre Op visit to the doctors was on the 21st of May. The dietician instructed me to begin liquids on 5/22. However, I have eaten a little on Memorial day (just a piece of steak and about 3 diced potatoes). I am starting straight liquids today 5/26 until the date of my surgery. Not eating anything on Memorial Day was a great challenge.

Is a week prior to my scheduled surgery enough time to do straight liquids? Please advise me of whether this will pose an hinderance on my surgery.

Getting cold feet, as I have read several posts about perhaps making a bad decision to have the surgery -- these thoughts occurred in these individuals after surgery, during Post Opt. Scares me as there is no turning back!!!

    Thoughts?

  13. I am also scheduled to go in on June 2nd. My feelings are that I am very excited but extremely nervous. I am currently on liquids until the date. On my pre op doctors visit on 5/20, I was told to begin the liquid diet on 5/21, but I ate a small amount during the holiday yesterday. Today, I am starting pure liquids until 6/2.
