  1. I think most people these days take advantage of the internet and educate themselves. There are so many different resources from YouTube to forums like this, if you come out of surgery misinformed, you probably rushed into it and didn't research enough. I watched people journal their experience on YouTube both good and bad. One lady smoked right after surgery and was crying the blues when she was back in the hospital with ulcers blaming it on her bad choice to have WLS. I had 6 months to binge watch the thousands of YouTube videos on the subject of WLS and that alone prepared me for almost any scenario I might encounter.

    Food Stuck ~help

That's my problem, eating too fast. I'm still learning to take it slow. It definitely causes problems for me. At least I know now that it takes other people some time to learn this stuff too.

    chewable vitamins

I don't care for the taste either. I just now finished the last of them and I'm switching to the capsule in the same brand. No more chewables fo me.

    Iron Deficient?

This is what I take and just got my labs back. My B levels are awesome and my energy and cognitive levels are through the roof. I should buy stock in this company. I researched it a lot online and people say their B complex levels are better with zipfizz than with shots from the doctor. Might be worth a try. Costco even sells it now.

    Nut butter - peanut

I had RNY about a month before you and I've had regular peanut butter with no problemo. It dilutes and works itself right down the pipes just fine. It just has lots of fat and calories but shouldn't be a problem in moderation.
  6. I think the reset just helps people get back on track with a regimented diet. Once you stop following and tracking your food intake, it's easy to take in bad foods and more calories. I'm only a couple of months out and I stray and have to occasionally ask myself "what the hell did I just eat that for?". LOL... Good luck!

    Nut butter - peanut

Most people use this for that peanutbuttery flavor in their shakes.
  8. I WISH I could've tricked myself into thinking I was a health nut that ate right and worked out all the time. Unfortunately that's not possible. It's called yo-yo dieting and is the reason most people on this forum opted for WLS. Once you get to a point where you are tired of failing at fad diets and your health has deteriorated to a point that only drastic measures will work, then you will be ready to consider WLS. It's a serious reminder/tool that you were in a bad place and an early death was imminent.
  9. The mini GBP creates a sleeve like stomach that will use stomach acids to break down foods and vitamins etc. so the absorption will be greater. The traditional RNY will only have a small pouch that will not use acids like the sleeve to break down what's ingested. People that choose the traditional RNY over the MGBP do so for the same reason people go with the RNY over VSG.... acid reflux or GERD. The MGBP is similar (maybe slightly better) to the sleeve in weight loss statistics according to the interwebs.
  10. I think most people when on their PC don't really "follow ALL forums" but rather look to the right where it says recent topics to find what is currently being discussed. It takes a while to learn how this forum works. I didn't realize at first that the mobile app reacted differently than the PC. Depending on where you're at as far as a timeline, I would say go back to stage one post op and do the ole pouch, or sleeve reset (which ever surgery it is that you had) and incorporate some exercise (or just walking if you just had surgery) into your regimen. If you just had your surgery about three weeks ago, it is normal to stall about that time. Good luck with your stall, you will succeed!

I haven't told anyone about my surgery

Nobody will fully understand your struggles with obesity and the need for WLS like people that are going through the same thing. It's like a person struggling with an alcohol or drug addiction trying to get support from someone who thinks they have a handle on it. Until a person gets to the point where we are now and seeks out and joins a group like this, they will (in most cases) be ignorant to the battle. Education is key and most people in your life won't take the time to learn your struggles unless they're in the same boat. They will only use your predicament as fodder for gossip.

    Re-sleeved questions

Are you asking for a friend cuz it looks like you're doing pretty good? You've got 29 lbs to goal and that's way better than me considering we had surgery on the same day.

    Getting ready for DS......

You'll do great after you get the DS. It's the best of both the sleeve and bypass. You will loose the physical hunger (maybe not head hunger) and also have the extra added benefit of malabsorption. 60 years old is an awesome time to add years on to your life. This surgery you are getting is the major league WLS and you will feel nothing like you do now post surgery. Be determined to get healthy and be around for the ones that love you and the ones you love to torment till you're 100.
  14. I love your attitude and what you bring to this group. Nobody deserves success more than you. Congratulations on what you've accomplished so far and good luck with what ever goals you have moving forward. You are truly an inspiration to us 50 somethings.
  15. I felt like I was hungry right after surgery too. It takes a while and getting past the liquid diet (which really isn't food) to start feeling like you aren't starving. It's kind of a mind game that you play with yourself at first. I was glad to get to at least week 2.

    Day 7 post op

Well you sure have a beautiful face. Good luck with your journey!
  17. One good thing is you will already be getting blood work done probably twice a year so you can look at your sodium levels along with the other levels to see if an adjustment is needed. I always drank tons of water pre-surgery so I was concerned I might have to watch my sodium intake post surgery because of the limited amount of water I could drink. I'm a little over 2 months post-op and back up to 100+ oz a day of water so sodium concentration shouldn't be an issue. Just shoot for high liquid goals and you will be good. I was going to say golden but when it comes to pee, you want to shoot for clear. LOL

    Ulcers ?

Thanks for sharing your experience. You will undoubtedly be helping people going through the same thing. Sometimes these forums are more valuable than the doctor-patient relationship.

    The Pains Of Eating

The reasons you mentioned are probably the same reason I've had trouble keeping regular food down. I have a hard time eating slow and chewing my food until it's mush before swallowing. I'm sure I'll figure it out. Until then, I just keep sipping the protein water. I get plenty of water, that's one good thing.

    The Pains Of Eating

Just the one can of spinach is all I'm really eating right now. I got tired of the other stuff not staying down but I will add a little bit as I go in the future.

    The Pains Of Eating

I've been mostly drinking protein water and regular water since surgery. The problem I've ran into with that is constipation from the protein drinks. I just started adding about a half can of spinach twice a day and now it's all good. I get my protein, water, vitamins and now veggies to keep things regular. I have no hunger either, I just want to feel good and know I'm taking in what's necessary to be healthy. I'm sure the hunger will come back and I'll have to deal with that when the time comes.

This part always cracks me up when you post it.

    New and needing advice

It's crazy how may people end up with serious problems like blood clots or leaks so you definitely want to be the squeaky wheel if you're concerned. Better safe than sorry.

    Snoring and sleep apnea

That's what my Doctor said. You could stop breathing and not start again. A lot of people think of sleep apnea as just an annoyance but it can be dangerous.
  25. Make sure you fill out your profile completely so people on here can respond correctly. If you are a bypass patient, I can try and relate with your experiences but if you're a VSG patient I would step back and let the sleevers chime in. If you are like me (RNY) you have a small pouch that has a small dime size hole that allows food to travel from the pouch into the intestine. That hole will stretch over time and make it easier to consume the recommended amount of food. Sometimes scar tissue will form early on and you will have to go back to the surgeon for a procedure to open up the hole that allows food to exit the pouch and enter the intestine. You progress through the stages of food texture to gently create an obstruction free path for the food to travel down. There's a little discomfort involved in this process but if it becomes unbearable, you might have to go get it checked out.
