    I'm in despair

I buy these from Amazon. 2 of them give me 80 grams of protein. I still don't eat very much but I get my protein, water and vitamins in every day and that keeps me going. I figure the eating part will get easier with time and this hiatus from food helps take away my constant obsession with it. The first few weeks post-op, all I thought about was how, when and how much will I be eating. I really don't think about it now. I try to get in one meal a day and I will eventually transition to real foods for my protein and ditch the drinks but for know this is working. I'm sure my nut wouldn't like it if I told her I wasn't following the steps and timeline that she has set up for me but I don't see the harm in taking it easy. I just keep in mind, most WLS patients can eat whatever they want at one year to 18 months out so eventually I will long for the days when eating was a hassle.

  4. I've found that the best information as far as what to expect out of your choice of WLS for the first year can be found on YouTube. There are endless hours of people recording their journey from pre-op usually until a year post-op. I watched all the ups and downs and learned a lot of dos and don'ts from many people on YouTube well before I had my surgery. It was like binge watching Netflix. I couldn't wait to see the next episode. It seems most people come to forums like this for immediate answers to something that's going on right now. Each platform has it's own unique set of benefits and weaknesses. I think for research into WLS, YouTube is the best resource to see the bigger picture. For support and immediate answers, groups like these are the best places to go. What ever a person does to prepare for this life altering decision, they should explore every possible resource available. Knowledge going into this is definitely empowering.

    1 Week Water Pain

I think it's a pretty common struggle after surgery trying to get water down. The SF popsicles helped to get my water in for the first two or three weeks after surgery. I think the cold helped with the internal swelling as well.

    Constipation

I had surgery in December too and also had the same problem until I started using a spoon full of sugar free Metamucil every day. Some people prefer Benefiber because it has no flavor. What ever brand you choose, you will become regular and pain free.

    Preop diet?

Are you going through a Bariatric center in the U.S.? With a BMI of 67, you should most definitely do a liver shrinking diet before the surgery. You don't have a lot of time if your surgery is in 12 days. Be careful and make sure you have a bariatric team with lots of experience and knowledge. You should've been given all the tools you will need for both pre and post-op including a list of bariatric approved vitamins and what can be consumed before and after surgery. Good luck and do as much research as you can in the short amount of time you have.
  8. I think those two incisions are the biggest and usually they have extra sutures that will dissolve over time. Some people experience a pop or snap as they weaken. The extra sutures are there to help prevent surgical hernias.

Talk to your surgeon on Monday and see if they can get the ball rolling. I think it will give you peace of mind and a long healthy life hopefully. Keep us posted.

    Gerd

He ended up getting laser and chemo treatment and did pull through. The family was just shocked because he's lived a pretty straight-laced life as far as not smoking or drinking ( the usual culprits for cancer). He wasn't a WLS patient, just someone with frequent heartburn. It's just not something people would associate with a chronic illness. Live and learn as they say.

    Gerd

I have a family member that had Squamous cell carcinoma (Cancer of the esophagus) caused by acid reflux. A lot of people that have acid reflux or GERD don't take it seriously and just chew tums or pop a pill but it can be dangerous. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't hesitate moving forward with the revision to bypass. Just based on the anatomy of the bypass surgery, acid reflux will be a thing of the past post-op. I can't guarantee anything but my extensive research on what surgery to get and my fear of acid reflux caused me to choose RNY.

    Below 200!!!

I still battle the gout too. It's gotten worse and I've been to my Doc a few times since surgery because of debilitating outbreaks. He gave me Prednisone and that works fast but can't be taken long term. I was told (like you mentioned in another post) that it's part of the process if you are a gout sufferer but it's almost unbearable at times. It definitely puts a damper on the exercise part of weight loss. We'll have to keep each other posted about this gout thing since we had the same surgery 4 days apart. Congrats on your success by the way.

    Asking advice!

Just omit whatever information you don't want to share. Some people I'm open with and when others mention my weight loss, I just tell them I am seeing a nutritionist and am on a diet provided by her because my health was headed in the wrong direction and it was time to do something about it. You don't have to lie to people, you just need to be the one that chooses how much information you want to put out there.
  14. I forget sometimes people in other countries don't have access to Amazon like here in the U.S. It's so stinking convenient. I don't know if you have access to a good medical grade protein like Genpro but it's flavorless and can be mixed with water flavoring and you can make your own protein water. @The 56 Bypass does that and it works for her. It sounds like you are taking the same vitamins as me except the Nut has me taking a probiotic as well. I just do a once daily bariatric multi with iron. I have to wait a few hours after the multi before taking the calcium citrate with D3. I drink a zipfizz every other day and my B12 is off the charts. I'll insert some pics of the 2 things I mentioned.
  15. My bypass was about a month before your's. I use protein water instead of shakes because I really don't like the thickness of shakes. Two protein waters in a day gets me 80 grams and what ever I can eat in addition to that is a bonus. I can only eat a few bites of any kind of meat and I'm done. As time goes by, your stoma which is the hole from your pouch into your intestine will relax and you will be able to consume more. Sometimes people actually have to go in for an endoscopic procedure to make the stoma smaller to create more restriction because they've gained or can't lose weight. Monitor your blood pressure when you get dizzy spells. You can get a self tester or use one at a drug store. I had to quit my BP meds shortly after my surgery because of dizzy spells. Sometimes low blood pressure and or blood sugar will cause dizziness. You do need to take vitamins specific to bariatric surgery (especially bypass) because of the malabsorption aspect of the surgery. I can share my vitamin list with you if you didn't get one.

    No weight loss

People have reposted this a lot of times over the years. Good information but I'm curious if she stayed the course and made it to goal. She sort of dropped off the radar a little over 2 years ago. She started out at 565 lbs and her last update on her ticker shows she made it about half way to goal. When you have 400 lbs to lose, numbers on a scale don't mean as much to you as they would to somebody that is only looking to lose a quarter of that (not to imply that 100 lbs isn't a lot of weight to lose). Some people realize at a certain point post-op that they are no longer a help on here and their frustrations with questions that have been discussed in the past are starting to show so they just fade away. I have a feeling Inner Surfer Girl was probably at that point and it showed in the way she worded this post. Starting a sentence with "Guess What" conveys frustration with the people that aren't at the same point in their journey as she was. I think most people that post a question on here already know the answer before they ask but are looking for encouragement and optimism. Your success is very encouraging but I don't think she was at the point where she could justifiably use such preachy rhetoric when addressing questions from people new to this process.

    Constipation

I found that a fiber supplement like Benefiber or Metamucil everyday fixed the constipation and regularity problems. It's good peace of mind to totally evacuate the bowels on the daily. It's also a good idea to help prevent colon issues as you age. As mentioned above, it can be a challenge to incorporate fiber in your diet post-op. Supplements will be the new normal for us from here on out. Be careful with the smooth move tea and other constipation remedies as they warn against long term use. Fiber supplements can be taken for the rest of your life and is recommended by proctologists.

    Hospital Bill

Mine was $250 as well. I had my surgery at Overlake hospital in Bellevue through Kaiser. They asked me when I was checking in if I wanted to pay then and I said no, just send me a bill. I had too much on my mind at the time.

    Pittsburgh Area?

I watched your latest video on YouTube today. Thanks for the helpful charts and info. That's pretty cool how you broke all of the numbers down. You sound very determined and that's a great inspiration.

    Surgery date

I'm excited for you! Good luck with your upcoming surgery and I'm sure if you follow the plan given you by your surgeon's office you will do fine. Get ready for a new you!
  22. It kind of has the consistency of aloe vera. You want to let it air dry before getting dressed. It had kind of a tacky feel and I was happy when I was able to wash it off.
