I started to regain as well. Fortunately for me I have a group of family and friends who have had bariatric surgery and we counsel each other. Here is what I have been doing to combat the weight regain.
1- First and foremost I stop eating after 7PM and don't start eating until 8AM the next day. This has a double effect. First it's an intermitent fast AND it stops me from eating/snacking before I go to sleep. As I found, two very important steps to take as it does have a positive effect on your body's ability to lose weight.
2- ANY exercise that I can get I do. Whether it's walking stairs, doing yard work, walking instead of driving.
3- I don't eat processed foods. They are empty calories and have no nutritional benefits what so ever.
4- I don't snack. I eat only when I'm hungry during my 8AM-7PM window and eat to get the feeling of fullness.
5- Adhere strictly to the 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after rule for drinking Water.

    I hope this helps.

when I'm dealing with regain I just go back to the basics - not all the way back to Protein Shakes, but the whole Protein first, then vegetables, and then if I have room (and can fit them into my calorie range), maybe a serving of fruit or whole-grain, healthy carbs.
my maintenance range is 1500-1700 calories per day, so if I need to lose a few pounds, I strictly monitor my intake (through tracking) and make sure I stay within that range. If I need to lose a few pounds, I try to stay at the lower end of that range or just under it. I'll also weigh myself several times a week.
if you don't know how many calories you're averaging now, then track your intake for a couple of weeks to see. Once you know what you're eating now, cut it by about 100 calories a day. If a couple of weeks go by and you haven't lost anything, then cut it by another 100 calories (I find it easier to do it this way than to suddenly drop several hundred calories - it's easier to adjust when you ease into it slowly). At some point, you'll find your sweet spot where you're losing weight again.

@Debbieduck4 PM me if you want to attend my online support meeting tonight at 6pm CST. We're a great group of committed folks who really motivate each other and help us with accountability and focus. It's hard to go back to basics, but IMHO that's what it takes. Plan, weigh/measure, log EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth for a baseline. Everything. Then look at ways to cut the trash out and emphasize the healthy stuff. Prioritize Protein, Water, healthy veg, healthy fats. You can do it. Seen too many people succeed in getting back to goal to believe it won't.
Hang in there. These are tough days.

I decided to share my story with you all. I'm a sudden cardiac arrest ( also known as sudden cardiac death) survivor. I was at work on October 30th 2015 when I was stricken. I was clinically dead for over 5 minutes. I was revived with the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator). I also suffered from mild cognitive impairment, kidney failure and laryngeal edema (swelling of the larynx) which was so severe an emergency tracheostomy was performed on me. I spent 30 days in the hospital with majority of them in ICU. The total survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest which kills 17 million people every year worldwide is only 1%. I am a walking and talking miracle and thank God everyday for my miracle. I was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy ( severe thickening of the lower left ventricle in my heart) which was the cause of my cardiac arrest and had an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) surgically implanted in my chest to shock my heart back into rhythm if my heartbeat becomes irregular. I have been advised by my cardiologist not to engage any strenuous exercises due to my enlarged heart. I've been obese since my late 20's (I'm 51 now) and decided to have WLS after years of failed diets and exercise, I decided to take control of my health once and for all. I had RNY surgery on April 11th and to this date, I am 93 lbs. down with in just a little under 5 months with 50 lbs. to go until I reach my goal weight and I feel great! I accomplished my current progress without exercise due to my restrictions. Follow your post-op meal plan closely and with time, you will see and feel the weight coming off. I just want let you all know, if your journey is slow and your faith is low, I want you to keep your head up! Just remember this, you did not become obese overnight, it took time and it will take time for the weight to come off. I'm sorry for taking up your time but I just felt compelled to tell you my story since we're all brothers and sisters in this journey.

Just a little thing to try and bolster folk fretting about all the less than ideal things (and the hard to compete with success stories) they read here, especially those who haven’t spent time on lots of similar forums.

Research online has been a chunky part of my day job, so although I’m not immune to the negative bias and hype I can pause and process that out.

If you only have time to dip your toes in, use your own past experience as benchmark. How often do you post when all is just jogging along nicely and you don’t need advice or support?

If you have more time, try ignoring the 4 worst experiences and the 2 best ones in every 10 posts and use a search engine to look for medical advice and evidence for things that mess with your head.

Context is king. Everyone starts at a different weight and with a different set of head, body and life complications.

So impressed by those who spare time to support all the concerned folk here and share the well deserved celebrations, but for those hovering and worried, this isn’t, in sum total, a real slice of life

Hello, I have hypothyroid post partial thyroidectomy. I primarily got this surgery to shock my body because it is very hard to loose weight when you have a low thyroid in my opinion. I did find the beginning to be slow and you are still swollen keep in mind. I lost between 2-10 lb per week for the first 6 months. It flew off the next 1.5 years and I hit many many stalls for 2-6 weeks long during that time. Stick to your program and you will see results catch up.

    Define cheating.
We are all human. If you think because you had weight loss surgery you will never have a piece of pizza again, or a potato chip, or a slice of cake, the only person you are fooling is yourself.

I'm about 2.5 months post-sleeve. I'm still at the point where the pouch is doing most of the work, but I know eventually that will change. I'd like to get myself as prepared as possible for good habits in the long term. I've heard that the book Beck Diet Solution is good for thinking about behavior modification. Has anyone read it post-WLS? Opinions? Does it work post surgery? Appreciate any thoughts anyone has! Thanks

Beachladee3 got a reaction from Frustr8 in Colonoscopy
Having a routine colonoscopy next week. Was wondering if anyone with a sleeve has had one? Im concerned about the amounts of Water that have to be drunk with the actual prep. I am going to call Monday to check. Yes, the gastro Dr. Knows Ive had the sleeve. I sw the phys asst. @ my bariatric center and he says not a problem. Im still concerned because 64oz of water in an hour is not doable....
    Anybody?

I am calling again on Monday. The gastroenterologist knows Ive had the sleeve and said its fine. But when i read the details of the prep instructions, i raised an eyebrow at the fluid intake amount. As if the whole process isant difficult enough! Thnx for ur reply

I've had one, but it was several years after surgery so Fluid intake wasn't a problem like it can be in the first few months. Have you talked to the gastro, or whomever is doing the colonoscopy, about the problem to see if they have any alternate preps - things have changed over the years and there are several approaches to the clean out, some needing less fluid than others.
