Michie_be_me got a reaction from Frustr8 in Anxious
I am almost 5 months out and I just began this week eating sunflower seeds that are still in the shell. I have been trying to only eat the seed, but am worried that some of the shell may have been ingested. I am now feeling anxious that I may have somehow done damage to my pouch. Any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there a way to know if you have damaged your sleeve in any way? I am just concerned how easy is it to damage the sleeve with what you eat. Trying very hard to eat right, but I do sometimes fall backward and eat things I feel are not the best for my new diet. Thank you in advance for all feedback.

I am almost 6 weeks out and I feel hungry a great deal of the time. I am having the same issues. I am very disappointed that I am not feeling the restriction as I thought I would. I can eat more than I am supposed to be eating at any meal. I stop myself because I know I shouldn't be eating that much. I was told to add vegetables also with my meal to help me feel fuller. I really wanted to feel restricted or nauseous, something that tells my brain to stop besides my own judgement and common sense, which if I had good judgement and common sense I would not have needed the surgery in the first place. My primary care doctor who specializes in weight loss told me he didn't care if I was eating a little bit more as long as I am showing that I am losing weight. My surgeon at my second follow up was surprised that I could eat more than 4 ounces and said that should be impossible that I should be eating less than 2 ounces. It is very difficult and can be a slippery slope. I continue to surprise myself however with mostly good decision making and control. I am also getting bored with the foods I am eating and having trouble finding variety. Good luck.

Thank you all for your support I do appreciate it. I will definitely try some of these ideas and speak to my surgeon. I was having a low moment when I wrote this. it was exciting because I quickly lost 9 pounds but gained some back. It is hard. Enjoying LIfe No Negative Nellies welcome here. I am trying to get encouragement and support and I am less than a week from surgery. take your attitude elsewhere. it is not ok.

    And @ Michie_be_me, I did have,my surgery on September 5th , so I'm hour or so 5 days out.
And it's odd, portions of me don't feel a change, but I am going to be kind to Precious Pouch, was putting things away from Tomkitten' s dinner. Now once I gave word to myself I would never do this! He had salmon patties left over, I nibbled a corner off the smallest, said if I can chew this to gruel consistancy, maybe I can send this down to Precious? So I sat and chewed, then I remembered how hard I worked to keep Hector, my teeny little gastric ulcer to keep him asleep, before my surgery. . If I worked that hard for Hector surely I could give the same considerations to poor little 5 day old Precious Pouch, she's in there trying to heal her wounds, and,I'm going to send that hardish pieces down? So,i went over, spit out the d tiff into trash can and, then hid the evidence. So,i too can't escape the Nightime NoNo,skirmish.

I am only 2 weeks out and my doctor told me I was not allowed to fast. I was a bit upset but not really surprised. I am not sure how this will be next year. Please let us know what you did and how it worked for you.

Hi, I have never written in any type of forum before, and I feel like I am a bit late to the game. I am already one week into my two week preop diet and feeling very anxious. My surgery is Monday August 27th. I am doing ok during the day with diet, however it is at night (as always), that I struggle. I am doing my best, but cannot find a low sodium broth that makes me happy. I love Soup but I cannot find one that satisfies me with low sodium. I am doing well with the shakes, but I still feel hungry. I am so very limited in what I can have. I don't know how everyone else does it. I am here because I am addicted to food and it has been difficult at night. I could use some other people who have gone through the process who can help me through. Thank you.

    Hi All,
I am 4 days post op and I am finally feeling like I am not going to die. I have turned a corner and the pain is finally a bit more bearable. It was a hard road but I am doing it. I am about 18-20 pounds down from the beginning of preop. this is about 2 1/2 weeks. Thank you for getting me through. Not easy but glad it is done.

    Hi,

I am on day 13 of my 2 week liquid diet, however yesterday I had to start on Clear Liquids only. broth and Water. am dying. I am starving, weak, and have a massive headache. My surgery is Monday at 1:30pm. I don't know how I am going to survive. I am not supposed to have sodium. I was told low or no sodium broth. I have been having the herb-ox which is what my surgeon prefers but I cannot do it without adding salt or other salted liquid broth to it. I am not sure if this is going to be a problem or not, or even if my surgeon would be able to tell. I have been doing pretty ok until I had to eliminate my Protein Shakes. I have lost between 12-14 pounds, and I am on the smaller side for surgery to begin with. I am in this more for the health benefits as I am an uncontrolled diabetic and lost both of my parents to complications from diabetes. I have high blood pressure and cholesterol also. I also do need to lose weight and I tell myself that is an added bonus to the other health benefits. This not having the Protein is killing me. Frustr8 thank you for the stats on the liver shrinking diet because I was not sure there would be much benefit in such a long time. I know that I also have a fatty liver. I also am having really bad heartburn all of a sudden and not sure I can take anything.

Hi, I had the bypass but I have been able to drink fairly easily since the first day post op. I'm 4 weeks out now and can drink with no issues at all. But, I was able to have a bite of chicken today and even though I chewed it a thousand times, it hit me like a brick. I had to walk around, I was so uncomfortably full. Consider it a blessing that your liquids go down easy. Dehydration is the worst

I am getting extremely frustrated. Please let me know if this experience is unique to me. I am 2 weeks post op, and I have not lost any weight in the second week. I know there is a 3 week stall is it possible to have a stall in the second week. I am not getting consistent information from the surgeon about my nutritional requirements and I am concerned because I am not feeling restricted on liquids and maybe I am over doing it. I was not having regrets, but I am starting to now. Also, I am able to start purees tomorrow and not sure what I can and cant have. I have another weird situation. My primary care doctor is the director of a nutritional and weight loss program. I got cleared for surgery by his nutritionist, however she does not specialize in bariatrics. Now I need a nutritionist that does specialize in bariatrics, and the one recommended by the surgeons office says she cant treat me because I did not do the initial evaluation with her. I am at a loss because I don't know what I should and should not be doing. My surgery was uncomplicated, however getting information I need to be a success has been very complicated. My doctor's office has given me contradicting information both pre and post op, and I am beyond frustrated and in tears. I want to be a success but all I see is failure in my future. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

This helps tremendously. I was feeling all alone in this process. For liquids I was told to be on 300-400calories, but not sure how that changed once in purees. I will try to relax a bit more regarding the process, I just don’t want to do anything wrong or to hurt my new stomach. Thank you again.

Try to calm down. There are other options to get support and help available.
Don't worry about weight loss at this point. Many doctors tell their patients not to weigh the first month because it can be so disheartening. You can't separate out weight loss from Fluid retention and swelling at this point. Work on getting your fluids and Protein, the rest will happen when it wants to. Stressing yourself out won't make it happen any faster.
You should feel no restriction on fluids; they go right through your sleeve. You won't really feel restriction until you get to soft foods. Believe me, you'll know. You won't overdo it on liquids unless they have calories. The 64 oz. is a minimum. If you are comfortable drinking more fluids than that, no problem.
Generally, I would say follow your doctor's plan for foods, but if they haven't given you any guidance - purees are any foods that have the texture of applesauce or smoother. At the puree stage, you can have purees or anything from an earlier stage, like full liquids. So you should be having a combination of smooth Soups (can add unflavored protein powder), Greek yogurts, soft scrambled eggs, soft refried Beans, etc. or, anything that you can put in a blender. (Personally, I couldn't handle the texture of blended meats, but to each, their own.) This website has a recipe section for each stage of diet progression. You can also check out "puree stage foods" on Pinterest. That should give you some ideas, too.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
