My mother said the same thing. She couldn’t bring herself to just be supportive and say she was at least happy that I had taken steps to improve and lengthen my life span. She was living with us in my home at the time I had GBS in 2003 and I asked her if she would help me on the toilet because I couldn’t reach around without having pain yet (3-4 days post-op). She told me no. She told me months later when I went from 333 pounds the day of surgery to 190 pounds 5 months later that I looked sick. Well, YEAHHHH, my body ate itself! And apparently it was hungry! Luckily, I had enough fat to feed it and once there was no more, I had about 25 pounds of excess skin and fat that wasn’t going down without a fight (5 years later they lost to a plastic surgeons scalpel). Along with all that fat, I lost muscle tone, Iron stores, hair, and all of a sudden these hills and curves of bones I hadn’t seen in years came protruding back up to the surface-even bones I didn’t know I had. But lo and behold, I stuck to the plan-protein shakes, iron and Calcium supplements, quality Multi Vitamins (I still love the flinstone chewables!), as much Water as I could muster, and walking every single day for 45 minutes. The Vitamins, minerals, and supplements, along with a meal the size large enough to make me full and small enough to keep me from getting sick (one bite too much has made me double over in pain for 4 hours-I really miss grilled asparagus!), the wonderful walks-just for me time-and most importantly getting enough water each day made me go from looking “sick” to very healthy and beautiful in a matter of a few short months. You ARE sick for the first 18 months-let me rephrase that-you are HEALING in that period of time from having been sick for perhaps many, many years (15+ for me) and the surgery itself. Maybe they didn’t say anything before you had surgery because they were judging you behind your back. Or, maybe they were afraid to hurt your feelings by saying anything to your face. Either way, you don’t owe anyone an explanation. This was totally for YOU. But if you feel compelled to respond, tell everyone you feel great, your life is good and it gets better each day because you gave yourself a gift that is priceless. I hope this helps. Good luck and way to go!👊🏼

I was 65, almost 66. I will be 66 in 8 days. I’m 5 and 1/2 weeks post op gastric bypass. I wanted to have surgery 3 years ago, but insurance didn’t cover any WLS. So I waited to enroll in Medicare. Very happy I had surgery.

You look great! Hard work and perseverance does pay off. Any surgery needed to get rid of unwanted excess skin?

I am nearly 3 weeks and do believe I have hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I know this is normal- so I’m doing my best to not let it get to me.

Challenges I’ve run into? Finding things to wear to work. Nearly every pair of pants is too big, so I’ve been wearing dresses and skirts. The dresses are a bit loose- but dresses can’t fall down so it doesn’t matter.

I’m also in a constant battle against Constipation and have to take colase and drink Smooth Move tea every night. It sucks, but I’m sure this will get better as my diet gets more varied.

I am averaging between 400 and 500 calories a day. Still relying on Protein Shakes to meet my Protein goals.

I am down 27lbs since surgery, 65lbs since starting the process in January, and 103lbs since my heaviest in October 2016.

Thank you. Yes I'm doing well. Surgery was July 20th almost a month post op. 20 pounds down and feeling great!! Still not able to eat but 2 or 3 bites of food. I do get my Protein in with the premier shakes.. Drinking plenty of Water and getting the water in keeps me full. I was going crazy weighing myself everyday but the scale DOES PLAY TRICKS!! so i haven't weighed in a week.Won't weigh again until next week. I threw up 2 times the first week but nothing since. I'm not into fried food like i was before surgery. That craving is gone. I also don't have a craving for my wine which is weird. And most important i haven't smoked a cigarette since july 19th. So this surgery has done wonders for me. I'm finally getting my health under control.
    Pre surgery weight- 228
    2weeks post op- 214
25 days Post op - 209 .. Will keep you posted.

You got this! Just follow instructions and you will be fine. The physicians and nurses know what they are doing. Trust them.

I had to take a swallow test to determine if I was a candidate for sleeve. Turns out I’m not. I had acid reflux and esophagus muscles that would not push the food through. So 8 days ago I had bypass. On full liquids still, Soups, yogurt, etc. but, so far, so good. Sleeve-bypass May be your best bet. Good luck!

I just learned of this app. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. I am one week post-op from RnY. So far, so good. Minimal pain, minimal gas. Had my first “meal” after one week of solid liquids. I slowly ate 3 ounces of nonfat plain Greek yogurt. It was awesome to have something other than broth and sugar-free popsicles. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting for your surgery. I am 65 years young and anxious to be healthy. Down 12 pounds.

Sometimes NSV are the best victories! I've had quite a few in the last year but here are some:
I can fit comfortably in the chairs in our conference room at work, the arms used to dig into my legs and hips so bad.
I can shop in straight size stores only now, no more bouncing between plus and straight
I need new wedding rings, my fingers have gone down so much I can't even have my rings resized!! Yay new wedding set!!
Calf boots, I can wear them all. I also went down a shoe size so I need all new shoes on top of a new wardrobe.
I can see my feet again when I look down instead of just my belly, also my boobs are bigger than my belly again, thank god.
I can do 40-60 minutes on the Elliptical and not need a break. The first time I got on I couldn't even do 5 minutes.
I'm smaller than my husband for the first time ever.
I can cross my legs comfortably and love doing it.
