Liz The New Me reacted to Deblynn74 in Bariatric Sleeved 2017
I was sleeved 08/2017. It's been a constant struggle. I was told by the surgeon that I wasn't progressing as well compared to others. That my sleeve is bigger than he wanted & my metabolism is slow & I needed to work harder. I do have severe GERD but I have learned to work around that. I found out I have tachycardia. Also then & even worse now mobility issues. I couldn't vigorously exercise due to having grade 4 Osteoarthritis in my left knee. I stuck to the program & went from 323 to 223. I stalled & went into a deep depression. I wasn't losing unless I ate 800 calories or less. I gained all of my weight back due to decreased mobility & depression. I fell off the wagon per say. I now need a hip & knee replacement plus my right knee is almost just as bad as my left. I'm in chronic pain. For me to have surgery I need to lose weight. Nobody would do the surgery a few years ago when I was thinner stating I'm too young blah, blah. My quality of life has dwindled the last 2 years and I gained it all back plus 20lbs. For the last 8 weeks I have been using my fitness Pal to login my food diary. I'm eating every 3-4 hrs mini meals. Substituting 2-3 meals with Protein shakes/bars to obtain my protein goal. I would lose weight 1 week than the next gain back & forth. I don't understand. In 8 weeks I've lost 12lbs. I went from 343 to 328 to yo-yo 331. I have experimented & it doesn't seem to matter if I eat 800 calories or 1000 or under 1200. I gain/lose weight. I always eat no more than 1200 and no less than 800. Does anyone have any tips. At this point I am beyond frustrated.

Don’t be hard on yourself. Life sometimes throws crap at you & health issues & related pain stress are big ones (mean your back not your pregnancy of course). And one you have little control over.
Stumbled across this article a little while ago about the pouch reset diet.
    https://emergesurgical.com.au/does-the-pouch-reset-test-work/
Maybe better to go back to your post surgery diet - meeting Protein & fluid goals, watching portion sizes, looking for more nutritionally sound food choices, etc.
    All the best.

My preop is 5 Optifast shakes, and one meal with 2 cups of raw veggies/1 cup cooked veggies, 3-4 ounces of lean meat, one teaspoon of a fat servicing (like a lite ranch or low fat mayo), and one fruit serving, around the size of a baseball/1/2 cup of unsweetened sugar free applesauce
there is no way you could eat that much food if youre post op though... you could do the shakes, but be careful with picking them my surgeons office does not recommend premier...

here is a link to one of the best surgeons in mexico, and their preop diet https://www.pompeiisurgical.com/download.php

Just had my revision 4 weeks ago!
My liquid diet was protien shakes, broths, low sugar yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, sugar free Jello, and sugar free popsicles. Oh, and any sugar free drinks (non-carbonated) and tea.
I had a sleeve 7 years ago and gained all my weight back as well. I decided to do gastric bypass because I knew I needed more permanent help if I wanted to truly get healthy. I was arrogant and not in the right frame of mind when I got my sleeve so I sabotaged myself. This time, I was 100% ready and its been soooo much better and the will power to want to do better seems almost natural now.
Having said that, when I did my liquid diet before surgery, I dropped weight so fast! 12 lbs in 1 week and was down 21 lbs by the time my surgery rolled around (3.5 weeks). So, doing the liquid diet again definitely re-starts your sleeve but it will be up to you to keep up the diet after, which for me is the hard part. Good luck, whatever you decide to do!

I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat. I have been bouncing the same 2 to 3 pounds up and down for the last 3 months.

I'm in the same boat. I'll be 10 months post op this weekend and have 10 more pounds to get to my goal weight. Things have come to a screeching halt the last 6 weeks.
I'm eating on plan, exercising, and keeping at 1000 calories per day, as my program requires. At 160 pounds, I should still be losing at a good clip if I'm eating 1000 calories per day, since my total daily energy expenditure is about 1700 calories. But it's not really coming off.
I have loosened my intermittent fasting restrictions lately as I bumped up my calories because it was hard to get it all in, and I feel like that is also slowing my loss, but I simply can't get in 1000 calories per day without spreading my eating out more. I may try the alternate day restriction that another user suggested!

Keep going as you change it up!!! I agree on alternating days. I am working off a 10 lbs regain and as I am carb sensitive bread is not happening I count calories and Protein and avoid carbs. Best to you as a send cheer your way!! PS I do not lose if short I’m sleep. 🌻🌻🌼🌻🌼🌼🌼🌻🌼🌼🌻🌼🌼🌼

I took a break and just tried maintaining after the first year. Then this past December I started losing again. I lost 5 lbs in my 23rd month and have kept it off. My body I think just needed that break to get going again.

if you're carb sensitive (and a lot of us are), I'm not sure I'd add more carbs. Whenever I need to lose weight, I try to stick with the basic plan - Protein first, then unstarchy vegetables, and then, if I still have room left, a small serving of fruit or "healthy" carbs (like whole grain items). I also switched over to calorie counting when I was about a year out, since at that point I was physically able to eat a lot more than I was supposed to.
weight loss slowed to a crawl for me once I hit the year mark (and maybe even a bit earlier - I can't remember). It took FOREVER to get those last few pounds off. I did manage to lose 50 lbs in year 2, though - but it took a long time - slow going, lots of stalls - plenty of times when I thought "well, this must be it...", but then it started up again. You may be in the same boat...

Try Intermittant Fasting with alternate day restriction. I have found that continual caloric restriction really slows down the weight loss. Restricting to 500-600 cal every other day, alternating with normal intake (maybe 1000-1200) can trick your metabolism into thinking it is not really starving and can keep humming along.

Hi I am 14 months post OP and have been at a stall for past few months. I need some suggestions to jumpstart losing again. My dietitian advised me to be eating bread and increase carbs. I was hesitant to start this. Anyone else experience a stall and then lose again?

I have no regrets on having the sleeve, BEST decision I ever made. I'm happy where I'm at. But then get upset with myself because I'm not loosing anymore, and think I should loose more. I have been bouncing the 3 pounds up and down for the past going on 3 months now. It get's me depressed about it. I have to get a grip on where I want to be.
Hope everyone is doing ok also and enjoying life to the fullest.

I AM HAPPY where I'm at. I just get a little disappointed at myself that I'm not at 140 yet. I will get there someday but for right now my Husband and daughter is so proud of me. I'm truly grateful that I had it done. Thank you

So true I also have learned more from this site. You don’t know what to ask if you never been there before. So I read everyone’s and see if it will work for me. I also realize we are all different in some things and the same in others and at different timelines. So appreciate for their advice from their experience.

Hit goal last month and figuring out maintenance right now. 1 year anniversary is Tuesday. I haven’t felt this good or active in awhile.
I’ll be 59 this fall and I will continue to live an active and healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life. Being overweight was a lot of work, I much prefer this.
edited because I thought I was a year younger than I am!

    @Healthy_life2
thanx for the "revival" - I feel like singing !!!
i was sleeved one month shy of turning 58 years old, 7+ years later, i am 65 years young!!
used to be 5'3" - now i stand 6' feet TALL!! (still cute as a button!!)
inherited kidney problems from dad - about 15 years ago🙁, good looks from mom LOL
Dialysis started one year ago -no prob - no pain - sleep fine, "hooked" up in bed
at night for 10 hours.(hmmmm, sounds kinky😉) dialysis then does its stuff and i'm good to go.
(small catheter in stomach / attached 30' hose) i can reach/walk to the bathroom - phew!!!
(hmmmm - probably TMI, but when you are in renal failure - your kidney functions -
urinating - decrease/STOP) buttt unfortunately you still feel that need/urge to go to the BR (you try, but will be unsuccessful)
i eat like a "normal" person, Moderation used to be a big problem. all good now - watch
how and what i eat, i no longer keep track of my day with MFP - but i am very mindful of
what/how much i eat & drink, calories etc.
weigh daily after i shower- weight fluctuates 5+ lbs here and there GOAL - was 130 - now 135-140. NEVER have gone over that dreadful # of 140.
that's my story and i'm stickin' to it. 🤣 (film at 11:00, coming to a theater near you!!)
