Plucky got a reaction from Orchids&Dragons in Hair Loss
I've been taking a medicine for the last 2 years that does the same (can't wait until I get a few months out with this), and this is what I have learned. I take prescription folic acid, and biotin; and improvement is minimal. You can use Rogaine but it will just fall out when you stop using it. I have the same pattern you describe and work with my hairdresser to minimize the appearance:
I highlight my hair with foils- gives more volume, and lighter hair makes the thining less obvious
like you I baby my hair when I can
I do keep it short, I find towards time for my cut it's more obvious

    Good Luck!

    Hi
I was sleeved 7/24 and am trying to get prepared.
I will be traveling on a mini vacation during what should be the beginning of the puree phase, I go to the doctor and the nutritionist in a few days, but I'm trying to plan ahead. The first 4 days will be staying with a relative, so I'll have access to a kitchen and am not worried. The second half will be at a small hotel with a microwave and fridge. Would it make sense to buy a portable blender, and a strainer or two? Eat in my room while my hubs and parents get real food :)? Any gadgets that will make life easier?

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for all the great advice. I did get an under-desk elliptical but was waiting a week before I even attempt it . I guess slow and steady will have to do it for now!

It's not the best, but my family eats out a lot and I also travel with work. I tend to pack a lunchbox to take with me places. While I was on the liquid stage, I would pack my Protein Shakes and Jello and sit at Wendy's and eat with my family. And I travel for work too and just try to stay within my diet restrictions.

Take it it easy, this is major surgery (IDC who calls it elective, let me see them in a dark alley...) walk a little at a time, even standing is better than sitting, the focus IMHO should be on recovery not necessarily exercises just yet, the walking helps to ensure no blood clots form which no one wants. I was not a fast healer either, doing marathons 3 days post op ,don't let that be your goal because others can. Recover at your rate.
    !!!!Congrats!!!!
    Safe Journey

Try and make your goal each day to do a little more than you did the day before. Fresh out of surgery I was barely hitting 2k steps but I just tried to do a little more each day. I found it easier if I broke up the steps throughout the day taking 100-200 at a time and then resting. Going out for a long walk was so difficult at first. If your work schedule allows try getting up and taking a lap around your house once an hour. And while you are at your desk keep moving your legs around - lifting your toes up and down and then lifting your heels up and down. Look on youtube for desk exercises/stretches so you can move around a little more even while you are working. Every little bit helps. Good luck!

Oh of course more exercise is going to result in more weight loss, but your healing should be your first priority.

There is no "goal" that folks should be reaching for... the walking helps prevent blood clots, it helps remove the gas from your system and it prevents blood pooling etc. You are doing fine. Only do what you can, what your are comfortable with and don't worry about what everyone else is doing, because there is only 1 person that heals like you, and that's you.

    It does get better.

I was 477 the day of my surgery (489 heaviest weight) and yesterday I went in for a blood pressure check up with my primary care doctor and was 416!!!

I had surgery on May 10. So about six weeks.

Granted I have been walking 5 miles a day. I’ve been waking up at 5 am and lifting weights five days a week for the last three weeks after I was cleared to lift.

I’ve been eating about 1200 calories a day. 120g of Protein or more a day.

Still is is almost too good to be true. I don’t weigh myself at home because I don’t want to be discouraged during stalls.

Your surgeon is a tool. Jeez, what a sexist load of crap. I love lifting weights, and I will return to it with my doc's ok (just 6 days out from sleeve). Missouri-Lee's Summit's answer is spot-on. Don't let this fossil of a surgeon get you down!

My circle is small for now. One of the folks who inspired me let his Facebook friends know well after the fact, once he reached goal. I may do that but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

My surgeon warned us that you will get all of that unwanted input. He put it this way, in any other part of our life we would, of course, take the "easiest" approach; how many folks actually say let me try doing task XYZ using the most difficult way. He feels it is more accurate to identify this as the most statistically successful way to lose large amounts of weight... I haven't told my dad, but I am sure at some point he will find my method and we will be having this conversation :).
Hold your head high, and keep using the tool

I think you're overthinking it. Staying in the room while everyone else goes out to eat sounds depressing. Enjoy your vacation, go out to dinner. There is always Soup on the menu, and most likely other things as well. Pack a stash of food that you can eat if you get hungry. Shelf stable hummus, unsweetened apple sauce cups, bring some Protein Powder and a shaker bottle.

Oh me also, there have been stories on here of osteoarthritis lessening or going into near remission but we seem to be the only 3 RA has marked as his own. FYI we have a,new anchor locally. who is a fellow sufferer, he has had both knees , both hips worked on, he and his wife wanted wanted the blessings of ch8ldren, he was on some major drugs for our friend. He had to go,off them for 6 mon5he before he and his Amy were allowed to conceive. They have a lovely little girl, can't remember what they named her, I think Emma, at this point she is an only child, don't know if they're planning another or not ,

I overpacked. I barely used anything I brought and I was kept an extra day. It was nice having my own jammies but I couldn’t put them in until the 2 nd day. I used deodorant, dry Shampoo, tissues, my long charging wire wasn’t enough so packed a battery cell which I used. Slippers. The rest stayed in the bag

Thanks for all the responses to my initial question! sharing my outcome in case someone wants to know how it went.

I ended up having trouble keeping liquids down. I'm allergic to NSAIDS and react badly to opioids. I believe right after the surgery I was dosed with some painkillers, and it made me sick. So I earned an extra day at the hospital. So day 3 I went home, still a little queasy (could have been my husband's driving as well). I was back working day 4, the day after I got home with the following caveats. I'm not on any pain meds, and I am working from home. I'm mainly just catching up on emails in between resting, walking, and drinking.

We are each different, but that has been my experience. I suspect Monday I'll be back on my game mentally.

Thanks for all of the input.

I am not ashamed to admit that I am a member of the 90% of people who were unsuccessful with long term weight management through diet and exercise alone. Yes, that's the statistic. To the people that would tell me that I took the easy way out I say I took the smart way. I am giving myself the best possible chances at long term weight management. The research shows that 65% of people with a BMI >= 35 that use surgery as a tool have long term success at weight management. Another way of looking at this is over 2/3rds of the people that undergo surgery have success.
I would argue that surgery is harder than traditional diet and exercise. We have both mental and physical challenges to overcome with bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery essentially forces a lifestyle change upon us. Ironically, I had a much easier time with medically-supervised diet and exercise. I just failed in maintenance.

My doctor doesn't require it. He told me they have no way to verify whether we follow one or not, so they don't bother. He said eat as I normally would, just don't go crazy.
