    Meal Volume

Even after 13 months, my appetite varies a great deal. Sometimes I've had enough after 4 bites, sometimes I can eat 8 bites: it depends on what I'm eating. I just eat slowly and stop before I feel full. If my appetite is small, I find that I need to eat more often in the day - it seems to even itself out. It sounds a bit vague, but it seems to be working so far.

    Breakfast

Gorgeous looking brekky-piccies! I'm afraid I have plain old muesli with nuts and berries....it helps to 'move things along'. 😉

    Your stall story

I've stalled three times. On two occasions, I just carried on doing the right thing and they broke. On one occasion, I stalled for three weeks before going on holiday. I went away, drank wine, had (small) treats, didn't weigh myself at all...and by the time I came back, I'd lost 3 lbs. Weird eh? No logic to it that I can see!

    NEW BMI

Very very impressive and very very inspirational! I swim and cycle for exercise (and not often enough). I'm still shy of jogging, because my ample boobs bounce about all over the shop and I find sports bras clip me uncomfortably. However, perhaps I should follow your example and just walk briskly instead!

Gosh! All that subterfuge sounds really worrying. Do you mean to say that if you choose to pay for surgery not covered by your insurance, then your insurers will not cover you for any subsequent treatment related to the surgery? Ouch! Our National Health Service often gets criticised because of the waiting lists, but once you get treatment, it's quite often excellent. I paid privately for my surgery, but my doctor knows about it and I got all the subsequent related drugs and treatment free through the NHS. We pay for it through taxes of course and it can take more than a week to get an appointment with a GP, but I still think it's great. Everyone gets access, no matter how rich or poor.
  6. I haven't regretted it once - not even on the two occasions I experienced dumping syndrome. The constipation after the surgery wasn't particularly enjoyable, but it was nothing that copious amounts of water and prunes couldn't sort out. So that's only two negatives as opposed to an enormously long list of positives - and I had to pay for my surgery. Worth every penny!

    Carbonated Beverages

I wasn't told to avoid carbonated drinks. I was told to avoid sugary drinks. I do sometimes have low-calorie tonic water, but it makes me feel bloated, so I rarely have any (through choice) - and then only with a spot of gin in it. 😉 …And then I tend to let it stand a bit, so it loses some of the carbon dioxide.

I'm a year post-op and eat real food. However, on the days when I am working, I have a protein shake for lunch (for convenience and because I don't have enough time to eat solid food during the lunch hour). I use these protein shakes. The sachets are not cheap, but they are very palatable. The chocolate, mint chocolate, lemon meringue, cinnamon latte and gingerbread ones are particularly yummy. https://www.actidiet.co.uk/product-category/shop/shakes/

    salmon fillet

I don't eat the skin on salmon, but that's because I bake the salmon in a foil packet with lemon juice and dill, so the skin remains soft and soft salmon skin is yucky! But the salmon flesh itself is lovely and moist this way.
  10. Well, at least you know from experience that this eating-next-to-nothing stage will pass soon enough. You're very kind attending to everyone else's needs post-op: I think that in your shoes, I'd curl up with a book and direct hungry people to the freezer!
  11. My close-up pictures of the puffins were rubbish (I'm a cr*p photographer!) but I did get one of them at sea. ps Put me on a boat and I'm instantly happy! 😀

    Venting about my husband

You're changing and he's not - that can cause problems in any relationship, whatever the nature of the change. You have my sympathy, because it's a hard gig. I suffered from depression long before the surgery and it took me a long time to get better from it. My partner was very calm and patient with me: he looked after me while I found ways to recover. I don't know how he put up with me, but he did. I think, in the end, he knew he wanted to stay with me because he still liked and loved me, even though I was temporarily a nightmare. And although I'm now over 100 lbs lighter than I used to be, I wouldn't want to ditch him for someone younger and slimmer, because I still like and love him and know that he's reliable when the going is tough. I suppose you need to decide if you like your husband well enough to wait for him to heal himself, because you can't do it for him. I'm sending you a virtual hug, because this is such a hard situation to work through. I hope you have a best friend you can talk to.

    Had Emergency Surgery Just Now

I'm sorry this has happened to you, but glad your surgeon fixed it quickly. It may have happened to you whether you'd had a VSG or not. Imagine how much more difficult your recovery would be if you were still obese! Sending you positive healing vibes through the ether. 😉🙂
  14. Very pleased you are recovering well! I hope the problems you described are sorted long term.

    Peanut butter

Frustr8 - at least if you have a Kryptonite, it must mean you are Superman (or woman)!
  16. This is me and the other half at Fingal's Cave on the Isle of Staffa in April. I was seriously layered up because it was freeeeezing! Of course, the OH was walking round with his coat open because he's Northern and hard... 😲 We got out and walked round to the cave, which was awesome in the proper sense of the word, then walked across the island and saw puffins nesting - unspeakably cute! Mind you, I don't go walking there every day....

    New Convert of the Sleeved

My surgeon and nutritionist never told me that any food was out of bounds. They told me that if I chose to eat very calorific foods then I would lose weight slower. They did warn me that very calorific sugary drinks and alcohol would be easy to consume and could sabotage my weight loss, so I steer clear of them (except on special occasions). I do eat some of the food that you've listed, but only in very small amounts. If I eat just a bit too much of them, I get dumping syndrome and that's so unpleasant, that I've only done it twice. I've lost a good amount of weight using moderation rather than the 'all-or-nothing' approach, but it fits my personality to do it that way. I was never a food addict - my portions were just too big and I drank too much wine. However, I recognise that if someone is a food addict, then they might not be able to eat just a little bit of what they like without bingeing. I am the sort of person who would rebel against being told I could never eat something ever again though, so I don't think I would have succeeded with your surgeon's stipulations!

    Spicy Food,

A month after the op, I was eating lamb sag aloo, chilli con carne, chicken tikka masala, tandoori cod....no problem! As long as I stopped eating before I was full, my new baby tummy didn't mind!

    Scariest Stall Yet

At the risk of sounding facetious, I can recommend catching hand, foot and mouth disease. Believe me, you won't want to eat... 3lbs gone in 4 days!
  21. Hello again June '18 sleevers! It was my one year anniversary yesterday and I'm still very happy with my decision. My weight loss has slowed right down. It takes about two to three weeks to lose a pound, but I'm still losing, so I'm happy. I've decided that slow is good, so I'm not going to sweat it. I've lost 104 lbs so far and I'd like to lose another 20ish lbs, but I'm going with the flow. How are you getting on?
  22. looly

    Excess skin

I've lost 104 lbs so far. I've got bingo wings and a stomach doughnut and droopy thighs, but they don't chafe or itch, so I don't care. The only people who see my doughnut are me and Him Indoors, and he couldn't give a stuff. The droopy thighs are only really visible when I go swimming (and only when I walk to the pool) and I'm not narcissistic enough to believe that everyone stops what they're doing to look at me - they're too busy doing their own thing. And the bingo wings are visible whenever I wear short sleeves, but frankly, who gives a damn? The sort of people who would b*tch about it aren't the sort of people I care about anyway.
  23. I don't think there's anything wrong with eating when you socialise, as long as you don't eat too much.

    Hair loss...

I used an oral Biotin spray for 6 months. I lost a bit of hair around the 5/6 month mark, but not too much. I don't know if this was down to the Biotin or genetics - having read other peoples' posts, I think it's a bit of a lottery. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you - anxiety won't keep your hair in (but it might make it drop out!).
