  1. My surgeon actually allowed me to go in during business hours when i got dehydrated instead of going to the ER. Now that I’m further out I can drink more Water. Crazy part is my body didn’t like filtered water. Only thing I could keep down was ice faucet water. Which I NEVER drunk before surgery. Now that I’m 7 weeks out I can handle bottled water but i have to add lemon. I still prefer faucet water. It’s weird how everything changes. Take it one day at a time. Best of luck

I had gastric bypass. For the first 4 weeks I was on full liquids and the next 4 on pureed foods. It wasn't until I reached week 9 post op that I was allowed to transition to solids. The transition to solids can be rather difficult. There is no need to rush this transition. I found that softer foods (such as chili and soups) went down much easier than hard foods (such as steak and chicken) therefore I stayed with these for a long time.

After surgery, I lost my hunger. This occurred at my transition to solid foods. When I was in liquid and pureed stage, I did not feel this effect. I didn't feel full.

After surgery, your stomach is the size of a fist. If you put more food onto your stomach than it can hold, it will produce dumping, vomiting in this case. This is very noticeable in the solid food stage. The experience is quite awful. But your body will produce pretriggers such as sneezing, instant loss of appetite, mucous formation, hiccups to warn you when you are close to this point. If you stop eating when these pretriggers first appear, you will avoid dumping. Just become attuned to your body and when a pretrigger occurs, do not eat even one more bite.

I have included some chili and Soup recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Thank u soooo much I’ll check out the recipes. I haven’t ate a lot of the solids because I’m afraid of what may happening.

For me, I just get this "no longer interested" feeling... way more mental than physical.

If you are chewing well and you are still vomiting on soft foods, please go talk to your surgeon, it's possible you have a stricture or other obstruction that might need to be attended to.

I’m never interested in food anymore lol I just eat because I know I have to. If i could I’d stick to shakes forever lol. And thank u i will reach out to my dr. He thought i might have a stricture but then said could be still swollen (2 weeks ago) Vomit stopped now it’s back again. I think I’m doing something wrong but I’d rather be safe than sorry

  4. Hey guys and gals!

So as of today I am 6 weeks post op. Per my Nut I can eat all foods at this point. What signs did you know you were full? I can’t tell. I am not eating a lot, it feels as though after a few bites it’s coming back up. Am I doing something wrong? I am still eating softer foods, like chicken (dark meat), tuna, eggs. I just would like for the throwing up to stop.

  5. I completely understand. I luckily had Xanax to calm my nerves. But my therapist suggested just going over why your having the surgery. Don’t let negative thoughts control you. The pain is temporary and the other part I won’t even mention. You will be fine. Congratulations

  6. Only thing I used while in the hospital was my chapstick (they provide some but I like the brand I buy) and my charger. What i wore to the hospital which was a slip on dress is what i wore home. I recommend bringing your own heating pad. It took my nurse forever to get one ordered. Good luck with everything

  7. So i had my RNY on 8/28. Met with my nutritionist yesterday and was told tea was fine just watch the sugar. I started drinking Snapple diet peach with only 5 calories. I feel fine. Never been a tea drinker but it taste yummy lol. I think every dr makes up their own rules. You’ll learn what’s best for your body as you go along. Your stomach won’t be shy to let you know! Good luck with everything!

  8. So I was in so pain probably they first week but had pain pump in hospital the first 24 hours then had to crush oxycodone. I’m the biggest baby ever so lol and the worst of the pain was in the hospital. Tylenol only now if anything hurts. I’m almost 4 weeks out

Something is wrong here- I DO,NOT, REMEMBER MY RECOVERY ROOM AT OSU!

It is not. my First Time at the Rodeo, I have had 8 surgical losses of consciousness, 4 I woke up in Ambulatory/Short Stay Step down and went home an hour,or so,later.

Then rest were all inpatient, 3 different Hospitals and I can give you a FACT about each wake-up. Why,is this time different?

September 5th I was treated with kindness, gentleness and except for 15 minutes when their presurgery drink pushed my blood surgery artificially high things were WONDERFUL. Remember being pushed down hall to elevator, first bed I had ever ridden in that didn't have and errant wheel or run crooked.Thought for once I had gotten a place whose equipment wasn't broke. Operating Room very welcoming, not super cold, Dr Needleman waved at me from halfway across the room, I THINK it was him but since everyone gowned could have been another staff member. But I still thought How very NICE of them to do that! When we got me settled onto the table, everthing fit, many times before I felt like tables were too narrow and I was going to fall off. As they got things adjusted there was no yanking my arms out like they were getting ready to crucify me. That had been one of my worries. The anesthesiologist asked if I was comfortable and I slid off so smoothly it was like I was awake and then I wasn't. The next thing I knew I was waking up in my room, stretched like I was waking up in the morning, my son the Tomkitten said Hi Mom, how are you doing? No pain , my room which was private was very pretty for being institutional, bright gently sunny and on the 10th floor of Doan Hall. Now I don't,like heights but still had enough "happy juice" I didn't mind that. But the Recovery Room, was it so bad that my mind had submerged,it, did they let me just stay submerged the whole time? What gives, there's an hout, hour and half thst is forever missing. And I don't comprehend it all.

Lol i don’t remember much either. I know I remember my Dr saying hello in the OR, finding out I was getting a catheter soon as I went to sleep (not happy) and then the anesthesiologist saying I’m about to get sleepy. Next thing I know people kept calling my name. I remember my mom coming to the post op area and I was crying because they only let her stay for a minute. Then the nurse kept saying push your pain button but I was in so much pain and so drugged up to even lift anything lol. I remember the guy in the curtain over being loud AF trying to take his gown off and the nurse kept telling him he can’t do that lol. Next thing I know I woke up in my room crying AGAIN but this time my mom was on the couch.
