NewLife125 got a reaction from Frustr8 in REX Hospital Raleigh NC
Rex is the best!!!! I am 6 days post op and I feel like this team has supported me every step of the way! I chose Dr Bermudez to do my surgery and I could not be more pleased with how I am doing so far. I know this Dr and support team will be with me through my full recovery and beyond.

I gained 8 lbs of Water weight in the hospital. They have pumped you full of fluids in case you could not drink much after surgery. Dont worry it wil come off quickly in the next week or so.

The gas pain is the worst of it. You wont want to, but get up and walk as soon as you can. Its the only thing that really helps. You will be surprised how quickly you recover.

I went in to surgery at 242.5lb and one day after surgery I was 249.1lb. 8 days later I am 229.5lbs. It took a few days and quite frankly a bowel movement to see the scale move.

Choosing a surgeon for Bariatric Surgery was a process for me and my husband. We wanted to be absolutely positive that he/she was not only brilliant and a great surgeon but also had an understanding of obesity and everything that comes with it. We wanted to be sure that the surgeon as trained, educated and had empathy for the morbidly obese while also understanding I would need him/her and their practice in my life to help me with this struggle. I was NOT looking for a one and done. Surgeon, Support and Education was my criteria for choosing a practice.
We found it all. It takes time to vet the surgeon and also find exactly who and where it have the surgery. We wanted the hospital to be a Center of Excellence in Bariatrics'.
Lindsey S. Sharp MD and his practice (REX Bariatric Surgeons) fit my criteria and have exceeded my expectations in all aspects almost 5 years later. Dr. Sharp and his practice have provided me with a great tool, great support and education to keep myself focused and successful.

its now been 4.5 years since I was sleeved. my high weight was 323 lbs. my goal weight was low 180's. I did reach goal weight but over the years I realized that my desired goal weight was too low for me. now for the last 2 years ive steadily maintained a weight in the mid 190's and that appears to be where im supposed to be and im happy with that weight. today 10/1/17 I weight 195 lbs. I exercise 3-4 times a week and my choice of exercise is running. I will also be running the 2018 boston marathon and im so excited about being able to run this historic race! im running it for the jimmy v foundation for cancer research and ive committed to raising $6000 which is no easy task. if any of you have ever been affected by this terrible illness feel free to click the link after this post and make a 100% tax deductible donation to the jimmy v foundation for cancer research. every dollar donated goes to research. you will be supporting my run and a cause that affects everyone as everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer. as far as my eating, I still have to be very mindful of what I put in my mouth. I can eat much more today than I could 2 years ago but still no where near what I could eat before having the surgery. hope everyone on their journey is doing well and feel free to ask any questions. im also attaching my before pic and a few current pics taken last week. have a great day! heres my donation link for anyone willing to support this wonderful cause: http://jimmyv.convio.net/site/TR/Endurance/General?px=1409952&pg=personal&fr_id=1370

Thanks for the support! I guess I am over worrying. Its all so scary, so much to try to schedule and goals to meet. Guess i am still a little emotional with being just out of the hospital.

Lots of folks do/will. This is due to the IV fluids, being swollen and retaining those IV fluids. Don't worry about not hitting your marks right out the gate, just do your best and try to do better every day. You'll get there soon enough.

Yes, I left the hospital 8lbs heavier. They pump so much Fluid in us, but it should come off fairly quick. I think mine took 5 days to come back down.
