1. thanks everyone! it's now been a week and it's definitely better. not great, but better. i still can't lay on my side (ahhhh!!!) and i still have some gas-related pain in my left shoulder but it's better. i'm really, really, really looking forward to putting this recovery stage behind me. i keep trying to tell myself that it's only been a week, but it's definitely hard.
I'm just coming up to week two and am off the pain killers. Hang in there, it gets better

2. @shrinking_wildflower I know what you mean. My youngest son is home for the summer (back to University of Missouri at Columbia in the fall) and is clueless about how to help me. My husband is the same way. They mean well, but they probably wouldn't even notice if I was bleeding out from my eyeballs.

Most men just don't have the ability to "anticipate needs" the way women do. Babies need things, and we just have the ability to sense (most of the time!) what they need. We're naturally wired for it. I truly believe that.
I love all my boys, but they're clumsy caregivers.
This really made me laugh [emoji1]

3. Many times in the hospital they routinely administer a treatment of antibiotics to prevent wound infection. Antibiotics kill not only the bad bacteria but also the good gut bacteria. It is necessary after a treatment of antibiotics to restore these good gut bacteria. One way to do this is by taking Probiotics for a few weeks.
After my surgery I found that I became lactose intolerant. Anytime I drank milk or other dairy foods that contained lactose, it was a quick trip to the restroom. This condition went away after about 2 months.
I'm vegan so it's not a dairy issue. Strange that it has only just started happening. I wish they would have told me if they did give antibiotics

4. Wildflower, are you in physical pain? General discomfort? Define "feel like crap" for me. Tried a heating pad? You are right, recovery is different for each person. But you are not quite alone -- there's a big gang of supporters who can relate and sympathize with whatever you're experiencing, and I'm glad you are reaching out!
Physical pain. I have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis too, I've had to come off the RA meds for surgery so I think both these things are in flare. I wanted to be off the endone by now but I'm not ready.

Thank you xx

5. Shrinking-sorry you’re so down. I’m checking out of the hospital this evening. Hoping I do alright at home. Drinking is not easy. Hurts and I’m nauseous.
Thank you. Keep trying with the drinking, my dietician told me to try even small sips, simply wetting the inside of my mouth. I did that and soon turned the corner

6. shrinking_wildflower So sorry for the hard times your having. Have you looked into a local support group maybe? I know most surgical teams have weekly meeting setup. I know it's probably tough for you to get there but maybe in a few days you'll be up to it. It's too bad you didn't make pals with someone from here that was local to you. I know if I was near by I'd come hang out with you and help out with what I could. I really hope things get better for you VERY SOON! Keep your head up and Keep us updated with your progress.
Thank you. Unfortunately I live out in the sticks so there would be nothing I could get to locally

7. Ugh I'm a week post op and I still feel crap. Yesterday I kept crying. I absolutely need to stop comparing my recovery to others. Everyone seems to be springing about and I'm struggling to move. It's 3am, I've been up for a couple of hours and wishing so much I wasn't alone. It will get better I know, I just wish it would hurry up.

8. I was told avoid caffeine because it can cause acid problems and can dehydrate you, but caffeine free is ok. I think this is just while your stomach is healing and pre op so you can get the headaches behind you before the surgery?
Interesting, I've been told i can drink black coffee pre op and can put my soy milk in it post op
