I encourage you to do some research on the connection between alcohalism and Bariatric patients. For some reason, it's not something people seem to want to discuss much around here, but it's a major problem and something you should be on the look out for...

Kaylee.char reacted to MargoCL in Forbes: Why high protein diets may be linked to Cancer
While I appreciate your "links" to all these horrible cancer related posts, I find it overkill. We are all adults here and hopefully wise enough to conduct our own research to know what side effects could come about.
Honestly, if you were to read every medical journal out there, you would find a link to cancer with everything we put into our bodies. So, thank you for these posts, but allow us to conduct our own research. For myself, I have / do conduct my own research before I change my lifestyle.
And the truth is - your diet doesn't need to be all Vegetarian or Vegan to prevent cancer.

I’m about 3 months post op, lots of complications, in and out of the hospital, and I’ve often wished I’d not had the surgery.
I’ve been wearing elastic shorts and now that’s the weather is cooling off I’ve been in loose sweats. Today I’ve got an appointment and grabbed pants from the back of my closet. I laughed at the idea that I could pull on and button a pair of 16 sized jeans. Imagine my delight when I buttoned them and have space in the waist band!!!
I was wearing size 22-24 last year at this time!!! I’m so happy!

Hey guys, haven't been here for a while and thought I'd check in. Still losing slowly but surely. Ladies, stay away from wine and other new addictions that might take over where food once reigned! Lol. Keep to your goals and do you. Every journey is different so never compare yourself to others. At 18 months postoperative I thought I would have figured it all out by now. That is not the case. I still am mindful of my Protein and calories intake as well as liquids. Still on my Quest for Vitamins that I can settle on (have tried gummies, pills, patches). Still eat with my eyes and have to remind myself food is simply fuel and not a party. Still have to remind myself I have lost the weight and to stop ordering 3 sizes too big because it might not fit. The list goes on but wherever you are in your journey, you are doing great and you will reach your goal. Might not be tomorrow but keep working at it and you will get there. Most importantly, if you have an off day, dont beat yourself up about it and continue forward. For those of you dealing with naysayers of all sorts, I say do you. Your future self will thank you for it. Who I am now am very thankful for the me 18 months ago. My pictures below say it all. I got to a point where I was so miserable, I rarely took pictures and continued eating myself to death because it was my escape. I posted preop pic, one year anniversary, and most recent. Good luck everyone.Take care and Aloha!

You can do this. My recovery wasn't that bad really. By the 2nd day at home I was doing for others and making dinner for the fam. The first day, I just napped, watched tv with my sissy and Mr. F, and just was lazy--almost the same as having an out-patient simple anesthesia procedure.
It honestly was no big deal and "round the clock care" is only necessary IMHO if you have some kind of complication like excessive pain, vomitting, nausea, wooziness, extreme mobility issues...etc.
Good luck and so sorry about this, but honestly it's better to know this now pre-surg so you don't have to compound recovery with this mess!!! (Get him out of your house asap...just sayin...)

My (ex) bf and I have dated for nearly 5 years; he lives with me. The last year of our relationship has been rocky anyway, but ever since I told him I had decided to have gastric he became even more standoffish and argumentative. Two weeks ago we had a huge blowout over something completely idiotic, he comes back to the house, and says he has been acting the way he has because he thinks that once I lose weight I am going to leave him and that's all he can think about.
Mind you... I have not even had the surgery yet. He said I am going to lose weight, gain self-esteem, realize I am too good for him, and leave him.
Well, guess what, pal... I don't need to lose ANY weight to realize I am too good for you. It's been a long time coming, but I think it's even sadder that he is using my choice to get healthier as a justification for being an a*s.
The only thing this does is put me in a rough position as far as someone staying with me while I recover. My mom and stepdad are going to take "shifts" as long as they can, but they both work. And the ex is currently dwelling awkwardly in my basement, but will probably not give me a hand at all. It does make me sad because I had hoped he would be there at the hospital with me... but then all of this BS happens. *insert gigantic eye roll emoji here*
I am okay, though. I need these next 12 months to focus on me and getting healthy and fit and not dealing with unnecessary dramatics and stress. I have always thrived when single and he actually had moved out of the house for a year and it was fantastic. I hate to say it, but I'm looking forward to this new chapter - of not just weight loss, but of being single and free!

I am down 118 total since my surgery on May 10. I’ve had zero issues since surgery minus the inability to eat scrambled eggs and lunch meat. Both things make me vomit every time I try them. Outside of that, no issues.

I have been working out with weights since mid June when I was cleared to start lifting. I’ve been walking 5+ miles a day for the last few months. I started with half a mile, then a mile and very quickly jumped to 5 miles. Once you get past the first six weeks of walking it becomes so easy. Something I never would have said presurgery where my weight on my joints made small walks a chore.

Now instead of adding miles to my walks I add speed. I just walk faster because I don’t have time to walk for hours on end. This past week I added some hills to my walks by doing different more hilly routes.

    Hi all!
I really enjoyed reading everyone's successes! I was sleeved May 22nd, at a starting weight of 238. Today, I'm 170 (total loss of 68 pounds). My ideal/goal weight is about 120/125ish as I am 5'4, so I am a little over halfway to my goal! I workout 4-5 times a week for about an hour to an hour and a half of cardio and on the days I am feeling really strong maybe even an extra 30 minutes of weight lifting. I'm wearing both medium shirts and shorts and looking better than I ever have. I still get a bit frustrated when something doesn't taste as good as it once did but my new and improved lifestyle is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Can't wait to hear more about y'alls journeys!

I started the process for VSG in December, weighing in at 241. On the day of surgery, I was 229. Today, five months later, I am 184. I am officially "over weight", instead of "morbidly obese". At a height of 5'6 and pretty athletic, the doctors want me at a weight of 160. I will consider myself successful once I hit 170, but the weight has stalled lately. I knew I was due for a long stall, but it sucks that it happens when I am getting so close to my goal weight. Anyhow...that is my update. [emoji3]

Hello! Hope everyone is doing well :) I am down a whopping 59lbs since surgery which is nice! I am feeling great. It appears I’ve stalled for the past 3 weeks right at 201.3 which is sooooo frustrating! I just want to hit wonderland 😭 but I’ll get there eventually.

I am comfortably wearing size 14s though which is freaking amazeballs though.

So how’s everyone doing with their eating? I made mini cupcakes over the weekend for a party and learned others are 100% right that sugar makes you crave more sugar. I nipped that in the bud real quick.

So many small victories, too many to mention but I will never regret having this surgery, it has saved my life.

I have gone from a size uk 26 to an 18! really chuffed with that and even better, a friend of mine has just given me a load of brand new size 18 clothes which look fab on me, for my holiday to Greece next week
