  1. Hi! Just found this thread today! I am 5 days post-op. Had VSG on 7/3. My highest weight was before I actually even saw the surgeon for the first consult - 362. (April, 2018) On my first consult, I was at 351. Day of surgery- 323. And today 5 days out I have been bouncing between 312 and 314. but I am super excited about where I am headed and the bounce up to 314 might be because I started purees yesterday. Tough day yesterday, I stuck to my guns and didn't eat anything, but I had a surprise Birthday Party for my hubby.....and good thing nothing there sounded good to eat! I took my greek yogurt and protein shake with me to be prepared

    Never-ending period! Wth!

Oh My! I actually had the same thing happen right when I started to lose a month before surgery (and a surprise flow evening after surgery, freaked out the male nurse I had....LOL he though my incisions were bleeding!) But, it was brownish, like it was old? I have PCOS so 'regular' for me is just a word in the dictionary! I also attribute it to the change in meds, at my pre-op testing the doctor took me off most of my metformin, so that might have been a factor too.

    Sleep apnea-cpap at the hospital

I use a nasal pillow mask, super light and only one strap. If you keep opening your mouth while sleeping there are chin straps that you can get to keep your mouth closed while you sleep. I had to switch to the nasal pillows because the latex and materials in the regular nasal mask were making my face raw. I only had to take my mask and hose to the hospital and I only used it at night, upside they were able to give me breathing treatments with the CPap so I didn't have to be bothered while I was trying to sleep.
  4. I started on pureed foods (oatmeal, yogurt, strained cream soups, riccota cheese, sf puddings etc) on 3rd day after hospital discharge. Since I was released on July 4th, today was my first day of purees. I still have to have some protien shakes to get all my protien. I won't find out about diet advancement until my post-op appointment on 7/11. On the up side, since April 17th I have lost 50 pounds!!!
  5. 3 days post-op. Super tired, sore.....but a little less sore than yesterday. Challenging to get all my water and protein in.....Haven't done it yet. I have Norco for pain, but cannot bring myself to crush and take it.....I almost vomited just at the thought of doing it the first night home.
  6. I had my surgery on the 3rd. I came home late yesterday afternoon, I am mostly tired, sore like I did 1000 sit-ups. I am having a difficult time with taking pain meds (Norco) because I have to crush it and last night I nearly vomited just thinking about talking it. Tylenol was better.....I also have 3 different anti-nausea meds, and Prilosec. I am doing ok with water, I started some sugar free jello today and it's ok, just slow going. Worst is getting up from sitting. Surgeon told me that my liver hadn't gotten as small as he hoped (I only had 1 week on the liquid diet) he said that they had to stitch on the inside and use extra surgical glue to close. Not hungry at all.....that's good I guess.

    July surgery

Oh my goodness, I just realized that my surgery is only 5 days away!! I think that my husband is more worried about it than I am.....Its the first surgery I have ever had, so he is concerned. I told him that all my pre-op testing is good and normal. So, far my surgery is scheduled for 11am. I am a little nervous, but excited too.
  9. I am seriously struggling with the pre-op diet.....I have no problem doing a liquid only diet, except that my doctor requires a certain "kit" and I am kind of a picky eater.....(go figure) so I didn't get the chance to see what flavors/ brands I would like best. But, the shakes are the worst!! Chalky, lumpy (from powder mix) and I have to add milk instead of water, and I do not like milk (never been a milk drinker) It's a struggle for me to get even 2 down out of 5 I am supposed to have every day. I am not hungry, I can easily skip it with no problem......good news, surgery is next week. Bad news, I have 2 teenage sons who are always eating! LOL Thanks for listening......

    July surgery

I’m absolutely freaking out about it! It’s my first surgery ever. Mine too!!! It's coming so fast too.....My first appointment was less than a month ago. At least it's so fast that I don't have time to freak out too badly. But, still a little worried about the unknown.......

    July surgery

I am hoping to get a date in July in the next week or so. All of my paperwork is done, I have lost my required 15 pounds, I am a teacher so I hope to have surgery and recover, and at least have a good start getting into a good routine before school starts again.
  16. Hi! I am very new to the whole process. I have had my psychological eval done, plus the initial surgeon consult and dietitian consult all on May 30th. Since I am a teacher, everyone is working hard to get this done over the summer. Right now I am waiting for my primary doc to send my health records to the surgeon, and to hear from them about the next steps. Luckily my insurance waives the 6 month supervised diet, but the surgeon wants me to lose 15 pounds. Not easy since I also have PCOS and that alone makes it super hard to lose weight. But , I gave up pop/soda and caffeine for just water.....a lot of water LOL. I am nervous/excited about the whole process.
