    August surgery ppl

Badwolf523 hey hon, omg the gas pain was my main issue. Ad I think I am going to sleep on the couch because I am very uncomfortable in the bed. My husband helps me prop the pillows a certain way to help but I barely sleep comfortable. So I think we may be moving to the couch for a few days lol. When was your surgery day? Also, I hate taking the lquid Tylenol codeine, I feel so sleepy and dizzy when I take it , so I try to not to take it but my husband makes me becausje he knows the incisions are pretty sore. I actually had a breakdown and cried a few hours ago to my husband and I told him I just want a yogurt, I want a taste in my mouth besides water and Gatorade!! and for some reason I cant keep down my protein shakes. So yeah I freaked out for a moment and I'm better now. I feel like a child acting that way but this can be emotionally, mentally and physically draining to changed your entire life in the blink of an eye. BUt we got this lady lol. Tell me your stats, and when was your surgery, etc. How are you feel overall?

    August surgery ppl

SO, I have had my surgery August 1st at 10:45 AM at Crescent Medical Center in Lancaster, TX. I was super nervous. The nurse tried to do an IV on me but I was dehydrated from not being able to eat or drink anything the day before so she tried a second time for and IV and barely found that one. Side note: I hate IV's especially when it has to get done twice. I went into the OR and they didn't countdown they just put me to sleep. I awakened in recovery, my husband was there next to me. After my vitals were checked, they moved me to my room which was not that comfortable and quite small. She said he had done so many surgeries that morning that they ran out of the normal room so I was put in ICU. I did not like the gas pain at all. The way everyone described the gas pain is nothing like it was for some odd reason. It was very uncomfortable, I could not get comfortable at all, I even start crying to my husband because I was so frustrated at the gas pain. It was this annoying ball of air bouncing around my stomach and chest that I could not get rid of. They gave me some chewable pill to help with gas; that did not help me at all!! The gas pain was so bad, I did not care about the soreness and pain of my 5 incisions. My husband said I was cursing up a storm. The nurse said I had 5 goals to reach before I could discharged: urinating, drinking 2 cups of water, using my spirometer, pain had to be below a 5 or getting better, and gas pain had to be getting better. They did insert a catheter in me and did the leak test; both whilst I was sleeping. My urine was green for the first day because of the leak test. I kept drinking water, it helped my gas pain a lot because I was replacing the gas with water in my stomach so I began burping which helped a lot. I was discharge 3 hours after surgery and went to a follow up apt two days later and that was it. I have not had a bowel movement yet, I was told if I has had a BM in 5 days since surgery that I need to get Imodium to help with constipation. I have passed gas which helped so much but still no BM> All I have been consuming and water and maybe 1 sip of protein drink since surgery. Since starting this journey I weighed 287 At the time of surgery I weighed 277 As of right now I weigh 267.2; and this is only 4 days out from surgery. I still crave some foods but I have self control and I know of I lost this much weight without getting out of bed, imagine when I began eating healthy and working out. You all please walk!! Walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip!! The gas pain will make you feel really crappy but walk and sip, you got this. Yes I was frustrated and still get frustrated but I push through. Goodluck you August sleevers!!

    Catheter duting surgery

Hey, Sooo, now I want to know about your drain ugh. I had liposuction in 2015 and I had 6 drains, my doctor just cut the stitches and pulled them out without warning lol. But it didn't hurt, just felt very weird. How did the drain feel being pulled out cause it was actually in the stomach. Was it painful or just a weird feeling? Did the nurse or doctor pull it out? When did they pull it out, how soon after surgery?

    Catheter duting surgery

Okay well that makes me a feel little better. I guess it really depends on your doctor. But I would have thought it wouldn't be needed, especially since you cant eat or drink anything the day of. But my surgery is August 1, 3 more days, yikes!! Thanks guys
  5. Hello, Ia m curious if either of you ever had a catheter during surgery before that they told you about? If you guys did have a catheter, did they take it out before you were awaken from anesthesia? I can do a catheter on all my patients but I sympathize with them because I personally dislike them, they are quite uncomfortable, and that is if they are skilled in insertion.

    August surgery ppl

So my gastric sleeve is scheduled for August 1st. my husband and I are driving to Texas the day before and surgery is in the very early morning. I am getting very nervous. I only been doing a 7 week pre op diet because the first week of preop I was bad girl. I thought it would be my last time eating my favorite foods and I ended up gaining 4 pounds. But wls is not the end of the road for eating your favorite foods. I figured that out on my own and I began my preop late but the big thing I started it and I lost a little weight. The most important thing is making sure my liver has been shrinking and with the little weight loss, I am sure it has shrunk. it does not take long for that. I know you are nervous, as I am, it is going to be a great journey, youre going to get your life back. We got this chica!!! How has your pre op diet been going? As you previously read, my sucked but I hoped back on the band wagon and my surgery is on 3 days omg!!

    Pre-op process

Hello shannaH, My preop journey will be slightly different from yours as I am self pay. And it is definitely a shorter process. I had my consult with my potential surgeon, and then I was scheduled for a psych appointment which could have been done over the phone so that's what I did. After that, we scheduled my surgery for 2 months after which is August 1st 2018 in Texas. I was of course orders to get bloodwork and an ekg completed. So again my process and requirements are a lot less as opposed to yours. So many health problems have occurred because of my weight and the biggest problem is infertility. Weight does a lot to your body, it damages your body on the inside so bad. So I decided to be selfpay and not wait the 8 months and go through the hurdles of the insurance company that will try everything to not pay for this medically necessary surgery. My sister was approved for surgery after going through the 6 month weight loss program and all the tests and cardiac test, and psych. One day before her scheduled surgery, the insurance company called and sadi she was denied coverage. She had taken out her FMLA leave already and so had her husband. That was the worst experience. So I chose to not go through that, even when youre "approved" that can attempt to deny you over something. I m sorry I couldn't give you more information about the pre op with insurance, I just thought I would share my experience and choice to be self pay. Goodluck

    Newbie--Surgery August 2nd

thanks for the advice, I will definitely throw out the fast food. Surgery is 9 days away omg. The advice and stories told on here helps so much. I will be documenting every bit if my journey. I'm not looking forward to the gas pain, that's the only thing I am worried about, ugh. But this will be a new me, As Frust8 has said, it will be a rebirth in a sense. I'm ready to not get winded walking up my stairs, or walking in a grocery store. I stopped going to the mall because it entails so much walking. I used to enjoy running, but I now even dread walking. This is the tool that I need to help. What issues have you guys developed because of your weight or any connection with weight gain? -I have PCOS -insulin resistance - infertility -anxiety -depression - I've developed a lot of skin allergies - moodiness - chronic back pain - plantar facisitis, I work in a hospital so I'm always on the move and on my feet. This irritates my tendons even more plus all the weight gained. - and all i wear is sweat pants and t shirts. It's the only thing that fits me comfortably. I went dress shopping for an event and I picked 3 dresses to try on, they were 2X and 3X. My husband waited while I tried them on I tried the first one, I couldn't fit my arms through at all, second dress. I could barely pull down past my neck, the third dress I didn't attempt to try on. So I walked out that dressing room feeling defeated and disgusting because I used to be in a 8/10. As I walked out my husband asked what was wrong, they didnt fot or you dont like them? I told him and as we are walking to check out, I began crying, no stop. Defeated, I need this. I'm not myself, I want to enjoy life again.

    Newbie--Surgery August 2nd

Yes, it is getting real, finally sinking in. Im not nervous just anxious for the future and how life will be after. I actually live in Baton Rouge, LA, Dr. Nicholson was referred to me, and I have done a lot of research. So My husband and I will sort of make It into a little road trip driving up there to Dallas. We are staying at a BnB and I am so ready. How is your support system for the surgery? Family, spouse, kids, etc?

    Newbie--Surgery August 2nd

Hello!! My name is Sabrina and I have a gastric sleeve scheduled for August 1st in Dallas, TX, and I am so excited. I am also self pay. I am so happy ive chosen this journey and I know you will love your end results. I a m not doing so well with my pre op diet. I am allowed to eat 1- 4 oz of meat with veggies once a day. I have actually not really been eating, when I do its fast food. We are unpacking so the fast food is easy to grab. How have you stuck to your pre op diet? I have 10 days left until surgery and I don't feel it is too late to get on my strict pre op diet. How have you done it? Who is your surgeon?
  12. Hello, My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a year now. I decided to get VSG and I am scheduled for August 1, super ready. I was told by my surgeon that it is best to wait 12-18 months after surgery. basically to wait until your weight stabilizes. My primary doctor who has seen and worked with a lot of patients with WLS history. She told me at 6 months it would be safe enough to try to conceive again after WLS. Has anyone become pregnant within the first year of WLS and the pregnancy was still healthy? My weight has definitely caused hormonal issues with my body which in turn has made it very difficult to get pregnant( Insulin resistant, high testosterone, irregular periods, hair growth, moodiness, depression, etc.) so this surgery is highly needed but also we yearn for a child. Any answers/experiences would help.
