Lisa K. got a reaction from domi in Stigma with WLS
Girl, we've all heard those comments too and it does hurt. I'm with you--is it jealousy, concern, rudeness? I am 53 years old and decided to quit giving people any power over me due to their own emotional struggles with my decision. I have struggled with obesity for 30 years. My loved ones and friends are all very supportive and I'll just be satisfied with that. There will be a ton of support on this forum. Maybe tell them you decided to take control of your life and be proactive. If that doesn't shut them down, make it clear that you are firm in your decision and that you would appreciate any support they'd like to offer, but that the decision is made. Period.

My surgeon and NUT said to wait until my stomach has healed and then I can add in small amounts of coffee. I never thought I could stand life without coffee but I didn't miss it like I thought I would. I was spending a fortune at Starbucks preop and it is nice breaking that habit!

My surgeon repaired a diaphragmatic hernia and an incisional hernia during my sleeve. I didn't know I had either one. It hasn't made my recovery any different from what I see people going through on here. I would have never known if he hadn't told me.

I'm so glad I got the Patches. I wear a Multi-Vitamin patch and a Biotin patch every night while I sleep. Take them off 8 hours later and done. My surgeon recommended them and I got them cheaper off of this site than in the surgeon's office (PatchMD is the brand).

I had one soft scrambled this morning. Whipped it with some Fairlife milk until fluffy and barely scrambled it. Was a little rough about an hour later but not awful.

It's interesting that this question came up today because I was just surfing and saw information about this topic on the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery website. The information on that site says that RNY is more susceptible to marginal ulcers and that is why it is more common for surgeons to instruct patients to avoid NSAIDs in bypass patients. My surgeon told me I might be able to go back on my meloxicam at some point after I heal from my sleeve but he would rather I wait until absolutely necessary. For now, I'm feeling great without it.

I admire your dedication in the face of business travel and meals. That looks like some pretty tempting stuff and I think it would add to my stress while changing a lifetime of bad habits. My husband and I are going on vacation with his boss and his wife (they're paying) and I'm trying to get a strategy now for how to eat then. They are very supportive and fully aware of my situation so that will help a lot. I need to retrain my brain to focus on the beauty of the city we're visiting (Charleston) and to try to make very good food choices. These are changes I knew were coming and I've really tried to be ready. Wish me luck!!

Thanks @allwet, it's just curious though that if I just eat till I'm full I feel completely sated. But if I keeping "topping up" my stomach, that leads to hunger. I wonder if my insulin response takes a little longer to kick in than some.
@Lisa K., I'm envious! Charleston is on my to do list. Since everyone knows about your surgery, that is a huge plus. I've had to lie, so business meals are a mine field unfortunately. I'm pretty relaxed about business dining. I don't try to be perfect. I have a lot of restriction, so even if I make poor choices, there is a limited amount of damage that can be done!

Woot! Today I reached 100 pounds lost. It is difficult to wrap my mind around. The other day I hauled a 40lb bag of dog food upstairs - and the thought that I have lost 2.5x that amount is both impressive and unsettling. I'm including a screenshot of my before and after SmartBMI calculations. If I'm feeling brave enough, I may post a before and after body shot in the stickied thread.
Thank you to all of you nice folks at BP for being supportive, especially in my more distressed times.

That could be related to many different things but being short of breath is not anything to mess around with. You need to be evaluated by a physician or NP. Maybe you're anemic.

    H. pylori is the last thing you need after surgery. If there is even a hint of it now, kill it and be glad that you have done one more thing to help ensure a positive outcome post-op. Many of us had hoops to jump through to get our surgeries done but, in the end, they were designed to help prevent complications afterwards. I had to have a sleep study and start using a CPAP, had a stress test and heart cath, and had an EGD with biopsies. My surgeon likes to be proactive in preventing whatever complications he can. I'm very grateful for that stance!!

I feel like we ought to have a swap site for Bariatric patients. I sell on poshmark but I’d almost rather swap larger sizes for the smaller sizes I need. Half my stuff still has tags because I skip sizes (or they’ve been worn once). 😄
