  1. Good advice and will do. Thanks Creek.
  2. My surgeon has his patients see a nutritionist for the post op diet and he has a very basic guideline of the stages himself. I was onboard with the nutritionist up until I was asked to eat highly processed food in stage 3. I need to find a different nutritionist, but until then I’ve been following Dr. Matthew Weiners post op diet. I am steadily losing weight, I have no issues and feel really good.
  3. Creek I’m with you. Well before surgery I ate mostly Whole Foods. I didn’t use artificial sweeteners. I used honey as a sweetner. Post surgery anything with artificial sweeteners made me throw up. I couldn’t drink any of the sugar free drinks I had stocked up on, or eat the ice pops and jello. I struggled. In stage 2 I started cooking my own whole food again and started to recover fast. At stage 3 I decided to throw out the nutritionists diet and created my own. I followed the guidelines of soft and mushy but ate Whole Foods, fresh fruit and cooked veggies. I could not bring myself to consume canned anything especially not canned chicken no matter how soft it is. I firmly believe that I healed faster physically and emotionally because of my diet and exercise and getting enough sunshine. Your diet is similar to Dr. Matthew Weiners diet which I now follow at stage 4. Mostly plant based with some lean animal protein thrown in. Once I’m done with stage 4. I will incorporate nuts, seeds etc. None of the processed junk.
  4. Creekimp would you mind sharing your forever diet with us?

    I feel so down

I had my sleeve on June 1st and have only lost 10 pounds since then. I lost 8 pounds on the pre op diet for a total loss of 18 pounds. I am 48 years old. I read all the time about how the weight is just falling off other people but it’s not for me. I am always hungry. I can eat about 3/4 cup of soup with no problem. I drink my water and protein. I’m starting to think that my surgeon didn’t cut enough of my stomach. I feel like I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life.

    post op hunger?

Yes. I woke up from the surgery hungry and was hungry all through the first two stages. Now with purees and mushy it’s gotten a whole lot better.
  7. My list no particular order. 1. Be more active with kids 2. Shop in a regular store 3. Look sexy when I dress up 4. Get off all my meds 5. Make eating healthy a lifestyle 6. Help others
  8. Glad you're getting it resolved. You'll feel a whole lot better.
  9. Great pep talk! Thanks very much.

    Despair

The first few weeks are tough. I am normally a happy person and at week 2 I had several meltdowns. I was depressed and hopeless. It will pass. I had to take a few days to refocus. I stated reading books and watching videos about making lifestyle changes. I filled my time with learning how to do things better. I’m only just starting to feel better. What you’re going through is normal. It’ll pass. You will lose weight. Surgery itself can cause depression. But hang in there and things will get better. I was also sleeved on June 1st
  11. To answer your question about leakage, I think you’d feel pain and develop a fever. I had the same fear and checked in with my surgeon.

    I feel so down

The weight will come off. I believe that now. It takes 12 to 18 months to come off. I’m only just figuring it out. Hang in there. It’ll happen.

    I feel so down

Thank you Travelher! Wise words which I will heed. The scale is moving again, slowly but trending in the right direction. I feel so much better now. Back to normal. I’ve been watching Dr. Matthew Weiner’s videos and have been focusing on eating the right foods and exercising and not paying attention to the scale. It threw me off. I was weighing myself daily and became increasingly frustrated with every day I didn’t lose weight. Didn’t expect a stall at week 2. I’ve shifted my focus and I am mentally, physically and emotionally better for it.

    I feel so down

A lot better. Installed on my second week. Still stalled but I feel good physically and mentally I’m much happier. Thank you Frustr8. I love the family we are here.
  15. Sorry one more thing. I had 2 ultrasounds and 2 more at each ER visit. Each time my gall bladder seemed to be just fine. It was the gastroenterologist who suggested I have it removed prior to sleeve surgery.
  16. I had my gall bladder removed 2 months before my sleeve. I had severe pain and suffered a great deal and after 2 ER visits in 5 months, my surgeon suggested removing my gall bladder before the sleeve since things were never going to get better. Nothing dissolves gall stones. If you have an attack once, it’ll happen again and again and eventually you’ll need to have it removed. I did mine as an out patient. It’s a lot simpler than the sleeve. I am happy I did it. I can’t imagine how painful it must be dealing with gall bladder issues at the same time as recovering from the sleeve surgery.

Thank you all so much for the support and good advice. It’s like being part of a big family, one person gives you a hug while another smacks you upside the head and you realize you badly needed both lol. Thank you!!

    I feel so down

Thanks Orchid. I feel like just want to sit here and cry, but I have 3 kids that need to be taken care of so I can’t allow myself that luxury.
