I agree with Creekimp13. This is exactly what I am doing. I told my Team Leader I am having hiatal hernia surgery and that isn't a lie because I am, along with bypass. But that isn't his business and I didn't even have to tell him that. When I told HR they didn't even ask me what surgery I was having. I don't believe they are even aloud to. They just gave the papers for FMLA. There is a thin line for a law suit these days and most places of buisness know this.

Worst comes to worst.....stop calling it a bariatric surgery and start calling it a hiatal hernia surgery. They don't need to know any other details.

One of my supervisors was discussing my upcoming surgery with another supervisor and one mentioned that since I am having "ELECTIVE" surgery I might not get it approved. I also have a type 3 hiatal hernia which was found in my prep EGD scope. I haven't even got all my prep appointments in nor a scheduled date, possible 2 months away at the earliest. I was asked to send a message to enlighten this other supervisor on the nature of the surgery so they can understand. I call baloney. I did send a message but I gave no details other than I projected a "surgery" in a couple of months and would give specific dates when scheduled. I have over 800 hours of sick leave because I usually take care of appointments and procedures on my day off to avoid harassment of interrogating questions.

Moved on to soft foods recently. Learning day by day when is too much food. Unfortunately I'm learning slowly. Talk about discomfort! Kinda scared to move forward...

I totally know what you mean. I've been in the soft food phase for a week, but next Friday I'll be cleared to start a regular diet. Its scary eating things now because I'm afraid of pain, throwing up or some other unpleasant reaction, so I've relied heavily on Protein Shakes, Dannon Triple Zero Greek Yogurt, cottage cheese, and Soups. Tonight was actually the first time I had a clear indication that I needed to stop eating. I was having a homemade turkey and spinach meatball and maybe I was eating too fast or I didn't chew enough, but it felt like the bite I took was creeping back up my throat. I immediately said I was finished with dinner and luckily it all stayed down. Today was my one month anniversary from surgery, so to have avoided throwing up makes me feel like I'm doing something right.

I am June 4th, as well. However, my doctor said that I didn't have to do a liquid pre-op diet. Just do what I've been doing and don't gain weight. I decided to impose a one week, mostly liquid diet. I had a salad yesterday and a scrambled egg today. Same here, nervous, but excited too. I have a history of terrible post anesthesia nausea, so I'm very apprehensive about it. My surgeon is aware and she said that they will use everything in their arsenal to keep the nausea at bay. Good luck to all.

Pearldrop reacted to GotProlactinoma in 11 months post-op - Stalled since 7 months
Some good advice. Taking it to heart myself. I’ve been losing extremely slowly and now that I am only 6 weeks from my surgiversary, I really want to lose the last 6 lbs by then, but I only lost 2 lbs in all of May. Sigh.
While ive lost so steadily with my program of no carbs except veg and root veg*, no sugars, no fake sugars, nothing that tastes sweet for 6 months, and I highly recommend that to anyone in a stall if they haven’t given up sugars and carbs, now I’m really plateauing more. I just want to lose the last 6 in the next 6 weeks.
*eating potatoes and other root vegetables is essential for the gut bacteria. They need some of that, also seeds or nuts or Beans. But keep your carbs down to 50g a day or so. Once you are done with sweet tastes, you won’t even want it and you will feel sick from them. I would never eat sweets or Desserts except over 90% dark chocolate, which ends up being a healthy fat antioxidant food rather than candy at that point. It isn’t sweet. Sweet food makes me instantly sick feeling.
i could use more Water I guess, and I could try to limit my 90% dark chocolate more. I have added 1/2 c of berries in to my diet for nutrition only. I don’t eat other fruits because they are just too sweet. Vegetables give us all the Vitamins anyway without the sugar.
but if I can tag onto this late in the first year stall issue, anyone have tips how to lose the last 10 lbs? All month it was like pulling teeth to get 2 lbs down.
I do work out and lift, and try to play actively with the kids when I can.

I lot a ton, and by 6 months out my hair was this and sparse and just horrible. I did take all the Vitamins, I took Vitamin IV cocktails, but I hated how I looked so much I got extensions. I love them. I might need them for many more months, though now (10.5 mos out) my hairdressers says I’ve got tons of new baby hairs growing in, but it will take months to get them long enough to be “hair.” So I am loving my fake hair.

I lost quite a bit of hair during my Lap Band journey to the point I could easily see my scalp, but can't say the same this time around. During the pre-op liquid diet, I noticed VERY large hairballs in the shower and was very worried that I would lose a lot of hair post operatively. At 4 weeks out, I am not losing any more hair than the usual few strands in the comb or brush after a washing.
I try to get at least 60 grams of Protein per day. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I fail. I am using the MD Patches (Gastric sleeve premium health pack and the Biotin patch). As I prepared for surgery, I was worried about taking those oral "horse pill" Vitamins post operatively and wasn't interested in trying to schedule a whole bunch of chewables. So, I thought I'd try the patch. They're easy and really convenient. I recently read that they have mixed reviews on effectiveness, but they seem to be doing well for me. Just ordered another month's worth.

So, after my surgery (when I had already lost more than 50 pounds) and my husband had been complaining about how his weight was "stuck" (having trouble sticking to a healthy diet), we happened to stop in and visit some neighbors. They asked my husband if he had lost weight because he looked slimmer, but not a single word for the lady who actually DID lose weight, and a significant amount! Sheesh! I must be wearing a cloaking device!

I was a wearing a 34G or H before my lift. Post lift I'm in a 32DDD. I thought I wanted to be more like a C cup, but the girls fit my build (& look pretty amazing if I do say so myself!)… and I'm just happy to have them back up where they belong!

I do understand shrinking the liver, but I am sleeping 12 hours a day on this pre-op diet. 1000 cal a day isn't cutting it for me. I am also supposed to be exercising more, but i just don't have the energy. I went from 10,000 steps to only 8,000 some days. I've lost 8 pounds since I started. Nine more days until surgery and only 3 more work days until I am off contract. Maybe I can just sleep until my surgery date. I feel like I have to follow the diet since all my other health tests didn't come out so great, but I also feel like this can't be healthy.

In the same vein—my surgeon did 3 surgeries on the day he did mine; he told me that I was the only one who seemed to have been compliant for my preop diet. One of his patients had visible fajita tacos still in her stomach, and the other had evidence of a large meal the night before. It’s really hard but I watched a lot of my 600lb life and ate my weight in sugar free Jello and broth. You have time to recover from this and 6 days of “doing it right” can and will make a difference. I’m 7 days post op and on a bachelorette trip about to dance the night away again like I did last night. You can do it I PROMISE.

    Hey guys!
So you guys are amazing and always reassure me and answer my millions of questions lol so here’s another one for you....
When did you start losing weight after your gastric bypass surgery? I’m 5 days post op and have not lost any weight yet. I actually am heavier than I was on my surgery date but only by a pound or two. I know they pump you up with things and I’m still crazy bloated BUT I’m just nervous that I’m doing something wrong. How long until I should start seeing some progress? When do I worry?
Are there any cases where you don’t lose significant weight after the surgery even if you follow the meal plans?
I guess I have a lot of time on my hands while recovering and am overthinking things a lot lol. Please humour me...lol
    Thanks in advance
