Ondansetron, the patch behind the ear, Scopolamine, and Emend.
Emend is Aprepitant, it's a chemotherapy side-effect drug that they are just starting to use for bariatric surgery. So far results have been stellar.
It's typically not covered by insurance, and is about a hundred dollars for the one pill you need...but if you are offered this drug, it is worth every penny.
Both of the other two ladies roaming the halls with me opted to buy the Emend. A couple of others who were not doing as well elected not to get it. (it was our choice).
Do not let the price tag put you off. I never had any nausea. Nada. None. Never gagged, never vomited, never had tummy pain. Was kinda shocking. In the most wonderful way.

Picked up my 3 prescriptions as I have surgery Monday. The loaded me up with Ondansetron for nausea, Omeprazole for any acid reflux, and liquid Tylenol with Codeine.

LOL you are a riot @Missouri-Lee's Summit Wise idea to leave the complaint until you are stronger. I loved that in Mexicali they encouraged you to have a surgery companion and there was a sofa for them to sleep on in your room.
Do you have in a drain in one of your incisions? They had a drain in the main incision where they pulled out the stomach and removed it on day 3 after surgery.
I have never been so gassy in my life! Farts and burps are a part of my new normal so I am right there with ya

I started purée today. So far the diet is going really well. I’m being careful with my pouch, but so far so good. I’m back to work tomorrow and looking forward to getting back to a routine.
My surgeon closed with dissolvable stitches, prior to the op we discussed his technique and I saw a previous patients scars 10 weeks out, he is very neat.
He made 5 marks, 3 of which are less than 0.5cm - there’s are the ones that have pretty much gone. The other 2 are about 3cm in length, they will take a bit longer to fade.
Are you using anything? My surgeon recommended Vitamin E cream and/or bio oil. It’s working a treat.

Well done ! You ARE a fast healer! I hope the diet is going just as well. Are you on purees ?

I just had my staples removed today and most of my incisions are far from gone. I think I move a little too much with my 2 year old.

God smiled on me! I just got home from the grocery store where I found ground chicken and ground lamb for 50% off. Yee-ha! Even picked up some of each for the freezer. For the chicken, I'll make the chicken/white bean chili again. It was delicious. And I'm thinking a Moroccan lamb Soup with the lamb. I may have to eat soft foods, but they don't have to be boring! I almost can't wait, except that I'm still working on last night's minestrone!

Thanks, Kitty. While I am very forceful advocate for my kids, not so much for me. I need to be more assertive. Unfortunately, I spent hours googling this and didn't find any type of treatment. In general, I doubt that it's a big deal for the general population because they just drink with their meals. I will call the surgeon's office Monday and see about a referral, I promise!

Well, it's been 10 weeks already with the possibility of another 10 I'd be surprised if it's not a balanced diet, though. I make my own Soups with plenty of vegetables. I really would like to get to a whole food diet, though. I really don't like so many processed Protein sources (supplements). My Vitamin levels were fine at my 12-week checkup. In fact, 2 were too high, Iron and Calcium. I've reduced my calcium supplement by 1/2 and I'll start taking the Vitamins w/iron every other day and vitamins without iron in between.
I had never heard of nutcracker esophagus so I looked it up. Seems like we're opposites. Your contractions are too strong, mine are pathetic and uncoordinated. Gravity appears to be my only friend (and LOTS of liquid). Is there a treatment for yours to make the contractions less intense? I spent hours on google and didn't find any recommended treatment for mine. I hope they can help you!

The only requirements I had was a 2 week Optifast and quit smoking.
The pre diet was not a rousing success, there were a few food farewells. My surgery date was 3 weeks after my first consult with the nutritionist. The surgeon had a cancellation and I was lucky enough to be there when it happened.
How that will work out in my post life... I’m hopeful. At the moment I’m having no issues on the liquid phase. I sometimes think I’m hungry, I’m not, so I distract myself for a few minutes and the moment passes.
Prior to looking into WLS I did do a lot of ‘me’ work with a therapist to understand my habits & behaviours, that’s given me some tools in addition to the WLS
Will see where I am in 6 months.

It’s ok, this is hard. It’s important to be kind to yourself and try to understand why you eat what you eat. The more you understand and learn the more likely you are to succeed

Thanks frustr8 & brown eyes didn’t think of the gas impact or the accidental swallowing. Hmm will have to think of something else post op.

Mine was 4 June. My heaviest is what I was on day of surgery. Over the past 18 months I gained 20kgs (44 pounds).
Im feeling great so far but am staying off the scales until the 30 June. I’m concentrating on Water & Protein intake for the first month. I know I’ll drop weight as I’m not eating a lot.
I’m meeting with my nutritionist next week to talk about calorie & protein goals for my soft/mushy food stage.
im looking forward to seeing everyone meet their goals

Sending you hugs & love as you walk down this path, be kind and generous with yourself.
It’s not clear from your post if you spoke with your friends surgeon or if they spoke on your behalf. If your treating doctors are saying all is ok to go ahead and you are ready I’d say go for it. If you need more time, then wait.

Hey there. I’m doing great, I stopped all pain meds last week.
I’m having no issues with drinking Water and can drink between 2 -3 litres a day. I just sip all day, I go back to work Monday so am hoping to keep it up once I’m back in my routine.
I have a shake for Breakfast every day, and as it is not sweet I think I’ll continue this until I run out of the powder. I also have coffee.
I have been having a lot of Soups for lunch/dinner. I’ve been adding lots of herbs to give them the taste I’ve been missing. I have either yogurt or Protein Jello as my afternoon snack.
I start the purée stage tomorrow yeah!!

Pearldrop got a reaction from SydneySleever in Am I drinking too much?
From what I’ve been reading on the forums The liquid phase can be deceiving, and we will notice the ‘fullness’ and restrictions once we are on solids.
I measure everything during this phase so I don’t over consume. I’m drinking between 2 & 3 litres of Water a day on top of my meals.
When do you move on to soft/mushy foods?

I’m constantly sipping. It will probably be harder when I return to work next week, I’ll need to keep reminding myself.
A square of dark chocolate is ok, as long as we don’t eat the block.
I start my purée/mushy phase tomorrow. Have checked in with my nutritionist and he wants me on 800 calories a day during this phase.

I’m not sure what astounds you? It’s NOT a quick fix. Many people fail. It’s not just surgery but that of a lifestyle change. So, I expect weight loss while I alter my lifestyle and habits. I empathize with Brass as I may have the same concerns. Is it not ok that I’m afraid I may fail?

I had my sleeve on June 1st and have only lost 10 pounds since then. I lost 8 pounds on the pre op diet for a total loss of 18 pounds. I am 48 years old. I read all the time about how the weight is just falling off other people but it’s not for me. I am always hungry. I can eat about 3/4 cup of Soup with no problem. I drink my Water and Protein. I’m starting to think that my surgeon didn’t cut enough of my stomach. I feel like I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life.
