Briswife15 got a reaction from Stinkerbells2ndact in Lightheaded. Not orthostatic hypotension
So, since around month 5 post bypass my blood pressure, the upper number, has been hovering around 100. Sometimes under. I get lightheaded when I stand up from sitting or lying down. But, I went to my doctor and they checked my bp lying down, sitting, and standing, and it didn't change. Stays around 100/70. I know we're not doctors here, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this??

I think if someone's surgery was denied they wouldn't be hanging around on a WLS support website. You're not going to get many responses.

I do see it. I suppose what I was asking was for advice from people who struggle with the same thing on how to balance tracking food with not getting too obsessed. Anyway, thanks, as always for your advice. I can't give up tracking entirely, for ever, but will focus on good health and reaching a weight supported by the professionals.

I'm not a WLS veteran, being only 11 months post bypass, but would like input from you veterans. Do you think that all the measuring, weighing, and tracking of food leads to disordered eating? I have a history of anorexia long before I was morbidly obese so I obviously have some sort of problem with food!! I just started Intermittent fasting and kind of feel I am entering a slippery slope towards another eating disorder because I have put pressure on myself to lose 9 pounds this month to get to my goal by my surgiversary. My therapist thinks that all the tracking is detrimental, but I think I need to track for fear of gaining weight back. I'm not underweight at 5'4 and 139 pounds. Thanks for reading! How do you balance being healthy, tracking, and not going overboard?

My stricture was severe as well. I needed 6 dilations to fix the problem permanently. Was on liquids for months, but I'm a rare case!! Feel fine now, at 11 months post bypass. Hope you're doing better real soon!

    Hello everyone.
This is just a few thoughts I have almost 1 1/2 years post op.
This was the best decision I could of made for myself. Granted I am still not at my goal weight. However I have not gained any back and I know if I want to get to my goal I will need to put a little more effort into it again. Which mostly is just getting back to the basics of what we are told to do right from the beginning, Eat healthy, and get your butt moving. lol
I know several others who have had this surgery some are a complete success others have failed and are gaining weight rapidly back. Some have taken their tool/ gift and have used it wonderfully and are healthy and happy and continue to follow the rules they were given and agreed to follow. Their hard work shows how much they appreciate what they have been given.
Others I know have snubbed the rules, they drink soda, eat chocolate by the bag, I watched one friend sit and eat an entire bag of Cheetos then say "I don't know why I'm gaining weight". She was not happy when I said " because you just ate entire bag of Cheetos and washed it down with a soda"
This surgery is a tool we have been fortunate enough to have. Just like any tool if you abuse it or use it other then what it is designed for. Its not going to work!!
So this week I started counting my calories again. I learned early my calorie threshold for consistent healthy weight lose was 900 calories per day. Most people are higher but unfortunately mine is not. And really if you think about it 900 is easy, especially because my pouch is small. I have not stretched it out. And I have lost 3lbs this week, so GOAL WEIGHT I'm coming for you!!!!

I didn't have one set by my surgeon initially. Once I hit a certain BMI (28) they told me I was good to go.
I think I'm eternally grateful for this because there was very little pressure and I could focus on building a forever lifestyle I was happy with

I work at a desk in an office and took 4 weeks off. I wasn't sure how tired and weak I would be. Could probably have gone back after 3 weeks. Was still napping daily at that point.

Just ask your surgeon as soon as possible. Don't wait until February 28th because they will need to submit the change to uour insurance company (unless you are self pay.) Good luck!

Briswife15 reacted to AZhiker in Why did you choose the surgery you had/will have?
I agree. I just shudder when I hear about new meds or new procedures getting pulled because real life experience proves they were ineffective or dangerous. Gastric Bypass has been around for a long time and there is so much information now from decades of post op patients. The band was a disaster and most surgeons don't do it anymore. The sleeve seems great, but I just need to see more years of data before I am comfortable with the long term effectiveness. So for me, bypass was the best option, especially with my history of GERD.

WLS is an amazing tool to reset your metabolism, tame the hunger hormones, forcibly restrict the volume you eat, and help you feel full with very little food. People lose a lot of weight, quickly. But like the previous poster said, it is only a tool and you must put in the hard work of changing your lifestyle and eating habits. But the surgery helps you do that if you are motivated. Someone can certainly gain every pound back if they do not change their habits and mind set. For me, I AM NEVER GOING BACK! I have a whole new life now and I wouldn't risk it for anything.
PS: I didn't tell anyone except my immediate family. I did not even tell my parents. I am just too vulnerable emotionally and I feel like people would be judging me for "taking the easy way out." My medical history is no one else's business.

almost five years out here. It is NOT the easy way out. The first few months aren't too, too difficult because most people lose their hunger for a few months, but for most of us, hunger eventually comes roaring back - and then things get a lot more challenging. And maintaining your weight loss is TOUGH - as tough as it was before surgery. It's just a tool that works as a strong tail wind to help you to drop a lot of weight quickly. But once you're there, it's a lot of work to keep it off.
if you don't want people to know you had the surgery, then don't tell them. They have no right to know your medical history. I hardly told anyone - just my family and my close friends.

and willpower is a myth. You are constantly fighting biology when you're trying to lose weight. Your hormones - your gut bacteria - everything is working against you. Only 5% of people manage to do it because you are fighting your body every step of the way. Luckily, surgery resets a lot of that, so it won't be as much of a struggle to lose it. It does make things easier - at least for losing it (as I mentioned, maintenance is really tough - I work at it ALL THE TIME). But even with losing, it takes work on your part, too. You have to be very committed to your program.

New to this thread, and to IF. Today is my first day of 18/6 eating. Anyway, during your fasting hours, do you eliminate ALL calories or is it ok to have coffee with half and half? Do the calories from the cream mess with the benefits of IF?? Thanks.

Hello! I'm 10 months post gastric bypass and chose that at my doctor's suggestion since I already had GERD, and the sleeve can make it worse. My diabetes is gone! Hope the same for you post surgery. My insurance doesn't cover mini GB, so it was bypass for me.
