  1. Forgot to add, I am only 6 weeks out, though. So I know it will get better.
  2. I can’t go out to eat or anything like a fair. I would be miserable. The worst thing for me is at work. It seems like food is all people talk about all day.

    I got cocky

I totally agree with all of you. I was handling yogurt and broths so well that I just got stupid. One egg is the limit for me from now on. Well, when I can look at eggs again without feeling nauseous.

    I got cocky

I had 2 eggs with a sprinkle of low fat cheese for dinner last night. This was my first “real meal” a few days ago so I wasn’t concerned. Until. About 20 minutes later I started feeling sick, and had a heavy feeling in my chest. It lasted for 2 hours. I had an irrational fear that if I threw up I would choke, but I couldn’t hold it in any longer. Why the choking fear? I have no clue. Finally threw up some slime and then half the guys. I felt better after but still extremely full and still nauseous, just not as bad. I ate too fast, and took bigger bites than I should. I definitely learned my lesson. I am back to liquids today because I still feel a little sick. Just thinking of eggs now makes me want to vomit.

    What are you eating

Laughing cow cheese, cottage cheese, triple zero yogurt, and eggs. I also supplement with protein shakes. I gag at the thought of having any more broth.

    Craving pizza

@RickM your answer just rocked my world. I might not be so sad when I see pizza commercials. it’s definitely too soon for me, but what a great idea in a few months.
  7. I know this is probably a stupid question, but why can I eat chicken salad on my soft food phase but not super moist chicken? No, I am not going to, and if I did I would ask my Nut first, I am just curious.
  8. I started my purée/soft foods a few days ago and I have been able to tolerate laughing cow cheese (have not tried it with crackers, which is ok per my list, which seems weird), cottage cheese, and I had an egg this morning. I get sick just thinking about eating more sugar free pudding or soup. And I ate beans and tuna. I also deal with depression and anxiety, so I am trying to figure out my meds after surgery. But when I start feeling sad I force myself to watch a comedy on one of the streaming sites. Restaurant commercials are my enemy.

    Family eating

Thanks for all the replies. Even after a year and a half of research and prep, I am amazed how tough this is. I weighed myself this morning, though, and I am down 20 pounds from the start of the liquid diet. Does anyone know how to change your profile to add details like surgery time, weight, etc.?

    Family eating

So, I am now 8 days post-op, and I am feeling better everyday. My latest issue is wanting to kill my family when we eat dinner. I know logically I can’t eat steak or even chicken right now, but I still want to cause bodily harm. It’s so bad, I am actually considering eating tuna in the next few days. And i loathe tuna. As I type this my husband is cooking hot links and crunching on something that sounds heavenly. Please tell me this gets easier.

    Depression Meds post op

Thanks to everyone that replied. The worst thing I have ever gone through was the sudden need for psychiatric meds 10 years ago. I would rather have a broken bone than go through the 2 or 3 weeks it took to find a combination of drugs that worked. I will talk to my psychologist about a possible replacement for cymbalta and ask about the siblingual Lamotrogine. I really appreciate the help.

    Depression Meds post op

This is an interesting discussion. I take Cymbalta, Lamictal, and Lexapro. There is almost no information about psych meds after RNY. My surgeon said I “should be fine.” My psychiatrist said we can “reevaluate after surgery.” In the meantime I am 6 days post-op RNY, hiatal hernia repair, 50% removal of my stomach, and I don’t know if I am still fuzzy headed and nauseous because of dehydration or med withdrawal. I feel like I made a horrible mistake that I can’t take back. Should I crush, take whole, open the Cymbalta capsule?? Would a pharmacist have a better idea about absorption?

Cash prices in the US for Bypass

Gastric Bypass Tulsa OK - $17,750 for Hospital (room, anesthesiologist, etc) and $4,450 for surgeon fee. All of the pre-op testing was paid thru my insurance. Sleeve would have been approx. $4,000 less. It would have been about $5,000 cheaper if I traveled to OKC and a little lower if I traveled to Dallas.
