I have hit my longest stall so far. Six weeks, and I've really struggled this last week to stay on plan. Any suggestions to stay motivated and not lose my determination. This is such a battle of the mind.
I just don't want to fall into my old habits that I've worked so hard to overcome.

If you find that you are having excessive gas or gas more frequently - not you personally, any bariatric patient, it could be a sign of eating too fast. I'm not talking about shoveling food in like cadets in boot camp fast, but just quick enough to introduce pockets of air into the digestive track. If possible, walk right after eating. You could just burp a lot of it out.

I'm on June 11 and day two of the liquid diet. I've had the worst headache today. I'm wondering if I need to stop my metformin.

Yes, thank you for asking! Today is the first day I haven't had one. I haven't had caffeine in a while, I just didn't expect headaches. I had my final surgeon's appointment today. I'm all set to go!!
    I feel like it's a dream.

Pre-Op went great today! First, I paid for the surgery in full with the office ($$$!!!!! ouch - but a good ouch - this is the beginning of a big change and journey in my life). The Bariatric Coordinator reviewed all my Vitamins and I'm in good shape. I received my binder (WLS Bible) which I'm eager to read over in detail. We discussed the Pre-Op Diet again which starts 10 days before surgery. The Bariatric Coordinator answered all my zillions of questions. I had a little pocket size moleskine that I've been keeping questions and notes in. By the time the Surgeon came in, I really had no further questions as I felt like everything had been answered already. I received my Pain RX script and also was told my surgery would be at 12:30 P.M. on Monday, 6/25. However, they did say that the time could easily get moved up to earlier in the day. I received a goodie/sample bag of various vitamins and shakes and juices to try out. The team is amazing and I learned that the facility that I'm having surgery in is so brand new that it actually is opening next week. They said the recovery rooms are like a hotel room with an amazing view and for patient visitors, the lounge is insane with an amazing coffee shop. YAY! I am a sucker for architecture, NEW, aesthetics and design. They told me the Nurse Anesthetist will call me in the near future to go over all surgery related stuff (timing, meds, what to expect, etc.). I left feeling pretty excited. I went to CVS after and filled my RX and purchased a few more items: liquid Tylenol, Pepcid Complete (which I need to take 2 a day for the first 6 weeks before I graduate to calcium citrate chewable). I'm going to jump online and buy some Gas X strips. Otherwise, I feel pretty prepared in terms of supplies.

Oh my goodness this is one of the very questions I asked of my support group last week!!!
I feel like we are all given this massive amount of education and help pre-op and then we are left to our own devices post-op. It was an interesting adventure to navigate post op, but I feel like there is SUCH a HUGE lack of long term support for all bariatric patients. Yes, we have out follow up appointments.. but what about emotional, educational, physical, and all of those changes we go through that have such a massive impact on our progress and growing into these more positive improved versions of ourselves on our journey.
I was so disappointed by the lack of long term care I went back to school and am working on my Masters in Health Science (will be a registered dietician at the end of it all!). I work with the two local weight loss centers in my little forest town and have helped put together a great long term care program for patients that includes having access to nutrition, support of various types, and focuses on helping people grow in a positive direction post-op. It is so amazing to be able to help people that are at various stages of their journey and offer them support along the way,
I feel like if we knew then what we have learned now and through these journeys we would all have made healthier choices hopefully not needing to go through all of this. BUT without this journey I would not be who I am and I would not be able to have such a positive impact on the world around me and helping others as they work through and navigate their own journeys.

Well you've just gained an entire community of "real" friends, and I know we can't hang out in person, but we will be there for you in any way we can. I shut people out too. There were certain people that I avoided seeing or hanging out with for YEARS. There was only a very select inner circle that I still saw regularly leading up to surgery. I'm afraid I became somewhat of a recluse, and as a result, my husband turned into one too. Our friendships ended and we became even less active.
I agree with your dietitian about the dress! However, please take another piece of advice. Please establish with a therapist before surgery. Someone who's been punishing themselves by wearing the same thing everyday may struggle with the emotional hurdles of stalls, timing of weight loss, and internal expectations. This is the biggest mind game I've ever played. And I think you need more people in your corner, so to speak.

This is a lifestyle change. You will be eating high Protein, low carbs & low fat the rest of your life. You will only keep this weight off if you continue to eat this way. It is not a magic pill but a tool to lose weight.

    Follow the rules/guidelines.
I see so many posts on forums & social media where people try to advance themselves with food, try to go back to work early, lift things heavier than brute suppose to etc. All sorts of things that are out of their guidelines. I am on a Facebook group for WLS (connected with the insurance/hospital I am associated with) & people are eating mashed potato, yogurts, pudding & creamed Soups when that stuff isn’t allowed on our program and they know but say, “oh but it went down fine.” Of course it did, it’s a slider food.
People fail to realize that they just had major surgery & just because you feel “okay”, doesn’t mean you can start doing whatever it is you want. That’s kind of how we got fat in the first place. This is a time to start anew, a fresh start, so follow the guidelines.
