    Revision from sleeve to bypass

Hi! I had almost your same exact scenario. I had the sleeve 5 years ago at 275. I lost almost 100 lbs in the first year but after the first year i struggled to maintain my weight even exercising and sticking to the diet. I slowly gained back to up 235 (5 years out) and had severe reflux and my hiatal hernia was recurrent. So on 9/10/18 i had a revision from sleeve to bypass, revision of my hiatal hernia repair and my gallbladder removed. I had a rough start after surgery. I sailed thorough my sleeve recover 5 years ago easily so i though this would be the same. But I had a lot of trouble getting my fluids in and i got dehydrated and had to get IV liquids the first week and i ended up with a partial bowel obstruction the second week and back in the hospital for 5 days. The sleeve to bypass transition as been harder than i expected. I just didn't expect the surgery and adapting to the bypass stomach to be so different from the sleeve. The first month for me was very hard and i struggled to get in fluids and calories. I had a lot of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, but i think a lot of that stemmed from the problems with the partial bowel obstruction. I am 6 weeks out now and doing much better. I still struggled with hitting my fluids goal and my new pouch is very grumpy at times so it doesn't like alot of things..lol But i have found foods that are gentle to my stomach and I getting my energy level back up. I have always able to eat pretty much anything i wanted, even after the sleeve surgery nothing really bothered my stomach. Spicy, beef, rich or fried food etc.. This was both a blessing and a curse, but after the bypass my stomach is very sensitive. So far and i have to be very careful trying new things because my bypass pouch will let me know quickly if she doesn't like it. Good luck with your surgery what ever you decide. I hope my post doesn't scare you off. Although, my complications can happen they are not the norm. I admit had times the last 6 week that i had "buyers remorse" ( which is pretty normal) and though what have i done. But now that i am gaining my strength back and staring to feel better, and i am losing i feel like this was the right decision for me,a nd these complication and limitations will help keep me on the right path to success. As of today I have lost 35lb (counting my 2 week preop liquid diet). They say revision patients will lose slower than first time WLS patients, but i am happy with my progress so far. I had a 2 week staff after the 3rd week, and i just started losing again. Hopefully, It will continue! Best of luck to you! Keep us posted!

    September bypass buddies??

I hope we both start losing again so! Hopefully this is just a small bump in the road. I try to stay positive. I guess i am just having a bad day. I did find this article that made me feel a little better about the 3 week stall. https://www.mybariatricdietitian.com/mbd-blog/the-3-week-stall-after-weight-loss-surgery

    September bypass buddies??

Stall, Stall, Stall.......I'm frustrated. I am 5 weeks out revision from sleeve to bypass. I also had a set back of a small bowl obstruction which landed my back in the hospital week 2. I guess i am in the dreaded 3 week stall. I haven't lost anything since the 3rd week. I lost 14.8 prior to surgery and 16. 8 lbs since surgery on 9/10, but nothing since the 3rd week. I have actually gain and lost the same 1-2 lbs for the last 2 weeks. I know it happens, and by body and adjusting and all that, but it is still just discouraging. I am getting my protein in and i have been doing better with liquids although i still need to improve more on that. It is just that, we are eating so little compared to preop, and i can't help but thinking, I should be losing something every week. My mind says how in the world can i not be lose anything for 2 weeks on what i am eating?? I am a revision from sleeve to bypass so i know i may also lose slower than other new bypass patients. I just can help but worry will the stall break? Will i not lose anything else? Will this not work for me because I had previous WLS? I'm sure i am am overreacting today (I hope!) but today I just seem more frustrated than other days, and I needed to vent to those i know will understand my frustration. I had prepared myself for stall, or so I though, I just i just really didn't prepare myself, that this soon out i would be going into a 3rd week of a stall. End of venting session. Thanks for listening.
  5. I am post revision from sleeve to bypass 5 weeks today and I'm starting to transition to a more normal diet. I had a really tough time in the beginning with dehydration and then I had a stay back in the hospital for a bowel obstruction, but I am doing much better now. My eating has gone pretty well the last week. There were a few things my stomach just didn't like but I am learning what it likes and doesn't like. I just wondered what others normal daily menu looked like what portion sizes you are eating. I know everyone one post-op plans and doctors orders seem to be different, so I though it would be interesting to see what others are doing. If you want post pictures of you meals to show portions sizes I think that would be helpful for lots of us to see. Thanks in advance for your time.!
  6. Thank you for the tip! Great thread! Very helpful!

    September bypass buddies??

Any of you on the pureed diet? I am hoping to get the approval to move forward today. How much did you start off eating at first? What did you eat? I am thinking of trying egg salad ? 1 oz 2 ounce? How did it go? How did the restriction feel? Sent from my VS996 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I am 7 days today revision from sleeve to bypass, hiatal hernia repair and gallbladder removal. I have had a rough time getting my fluids in and a lot of stomach spasms. The day after surgery in the hospital I did great. I drank fine went home second day no problem. But them I started have stomach spasms with cold fluids and my protein drinks. I couldn't get my fluids in and got dehydrated. I am doing better with getting fluids in, but I had a bad 3 hours bout with spams last night for unknown reasons. I go to the doctor tomorrow and I am hoping to move forward to pureed but I am nervous about having more problems with my pouch not liking it I never had any issues with spasms with the sleeve only just felt full. Anyone in pureed yet? Anyone having trouble with spasm? How do u feel the restriction? Do you just feel like you are full? Sent from my VS996 using BariatricPal mobile app

    September bypass buddies??

I'm really struggling. I'm five days post op. I have lost 7 lbs since surgery 18lbs since i started the 2 week diet but I feel awful. I am struggling to drink anything. The protein shakes cause my stomach to cramp severely. Anything cold like sugar free pop cycles cause my stomach to cramp severely even just took temperature drink cause some pain. I am very dehydrated. Luckily my niece came by and started an In IV for me at home to keep me out if the ER but I am just getting some down that I am not progressing. Has anyone else had such an issue with stomach cramps spams? I talked to the doctor's office and they said that after bypass surgery anything you introduce is introducing something new so not to worry about getting my protein shakes and right now just worry about getting my fluids in to stay hydrated. Today started out good I was able to drink my protein shake but since then I struggle to get my fluids and because of nausea and I'm having a lot more belly pain than normal. Trying to walk around but pretty miserable. Sent from my VS996 using BariatricPal mobile app

So I'm 3 days post op. Came home yesterday. The first day was pretty rough but improving each day. I was on clear liquids first 2 days and started full liquids today for a week. So far I don't really feel any restriction. I can get me fluids in without any trouble which makes me nervous but I'm sure I will notice more once Instagram purred and soft food. September bypass buddies??

Tomorrow is the day! I have to be there tomorrow at 6am. I am revision from sleeve to bypass, repair of my hiatal hernia and removing my gallbladder. I survived my 2 week liquid diet and lost 12lbs. Prayers and good vibes to all the September buddies! Sent from my VS996 using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. So I stared my 2 week liquid diet yesterday and I really did fine the first day. This morning I woke up and I'm starving and my mind keeps thinking about food and drifting off to....well if I cheat it's only day 2 so it will be fine. So I decided to try this Millie's sipping broth tortilla soup that I order on Amazon. I read about it on here. I heated it up and it smelled great. It is actually pretty good on its own, but I added a chicken bouillon cube to it, and some pepper and it is delicious! It is warm and filling! I feeling like I can make it though again...at least until dinner time comes and I am starving again..lol Just wanted to share my tip for all those 2 week liquid dieters out there.
  16. I have to get my mindset right. I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass on 9/10 so I start my 2 week full liquid diet on 8/27. I know where I need to be, and I will get my mind right but this week I seem to be struggling to get there. I am struggling with wanting to eat everything I know I can't and won't be having anymore. I find myself sad thinking about the things I won't be able to enjoy anymore to keep myself on track. I am a full time nurse and my husband and I also own an antique mall so I work the equivalent of 2+ full time jobs. So we both work very hard 7 days a week. We don't party, drink, travel, etc, so the one thing we do enjoy is going out for a good meal or treating our self to ice cream etc. I know it seems ridiculous and I believe me I know I want to loose the weight and to be healthier, but I am just having a pity party for myself that our highlights will now be smashed cauliflower and grilled chicken...lol...which I actually do like. To give you a little background, I had the sleeve 5 years ago and I did great the 1st year I lost almost 100lbs. But once I hit the year mark I couldn't lose anymore and it was struggle to maintain. Even with eating right, exercising, etc. I found myself getting down over not losing an and the scale creeping back up and a started making back food choices. Over the last 5 years I have fallen back to back habits, and I have gained back 60lbs and all of my reflux symptoms. I really wanted to start restricting myself this week and next so that the full liquid diet maybe wouldn't be such a shock to my system. When I had the sleeve I only had to do one week and that was hard enough, but I know I can get through it. But my mind keeps saying go ahead and eat it now, because you won't be able to eat it anymore in a few weeks. I know I can do this I Just needed to vent a little! Thanks for listening! Anyone else have the Last Supper Syndrome??????

  18. Glad you are felling better! I am on day 4 of 2 weeks of liquids. I understand what you are going through yesterday was the worst for me (3 day) I was so sad and emotional all day. I Just wanted to eat! I didn't cheat but it was a really hard day. I woke up today and I am feeling better. I still would love to eat something but it feels more manageable today. We will all make it through!. Good luck!

    September bypass buddies??

HI! Just wondered are you for 2 weeks of liquids for your pre op diet? I am only on day 2. I'm am glad to hear you say it is getting easier. 14 days seems like forever today.
  21. Starting my 2 week diet today! I'm determined to be strong! I know I can do this but I'm still dreading the next 2 weeks of only full liquids. It seems crazy to think it will be 3-4 weeks from now before i will be able to have any real food. I saw this on Facebook today i thought it was appropriate the first day of my liquid diet...lol. 13 days to go I can do this! Sent from my VS996 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I know I have survived the first day with no cheating but I have definitely thought about it and justified in my head why I would have been OK...lol. My surgery is 730 on 9/10. I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass, hiatal hernia repair and my gallbladder removed. Sent from my VS996 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Good luck on your surgery tomorrow Ellie! We are both on the same path. I know we will be successful this time. Please keep me posted on your progress. I have less than 3 weeks to go so I'm not far behind you. Sent from my VS996 using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. I got my surgery date yesterday! I am scheduled for September 10th. I am having a revision from a Gastric Sleeve to Bypass! I had my sleeve 5 years ago. I did really well the first year and lost over 90lbs. I was never able to reach my goal weight and seemed to hit a wall after a year. I couldn't lose anymore and struggled to maintain even with slight diet changes. I have regained about 50lbs and I am struggling with reflux again. I wished I had picked the bypass from the beginning. There was so much hype about the sleeve at the time but not as much long term data. Now I can compare and understand the bypass has better long term results. I am feeling a sense of relief just getting the surgery date that is what I need to do and I can get back to a place were I am happy with myself and maintain it. Any revisions out there that can share there experience with a revision from sleeve to bypass?
