  1. For this to be successful for anyone, it is necessary to adjust your diet within your individual tastes in accordance with the recommendations from your program. Basically, Protein and vegetables are the mainstays of your daily intake with some other things added as you go along. If you mean picky like only eating fast food and junk food then you are going to have problems. My friends sister had GBP (paying cash) and lost a grand total of 12 pounds in a year because the only things she "liked" were chocolate milk. macaroni and cheese and cashews. It is important to be open to change your diet unless you want to stay at a dangerously unhealthy weight.

  2. I am currently working with a precious, medically fragile 19 month old in a private home. I am actually increasing my hours over there to limit his exposure to other nurses. Just the parents and 4 y.o. brother in the home. Buying essentials online or using curbside to limit my exposure. Talking and texting with friends a lot more than normal. Worried about some of my dear friends (musicians and restaurant owners) who basically have no income during this time. There are not too many cases here in Central Texas at this point which I think gives people a false sense of security. Hoping for the best.

  3. I dont know about other places but where I am the hospital/clinic is closing many entrances so they can screen everyone coming into the hospital for any reason and send them to the ER if they are febrile or sick. This will translate to everyone standing in line for likely hours and possible getting exposed to COVID-19 even though the county I live in only has 3 confirmed cases. It might be a blessing in disguise to have your surgery postponed because the last thing you want is to be sick while trying to recover from surgery. I called and cancelled my colonoscopy scheduled for next Monday because I do not want to go anywhere near the hospital. Can be done in a few months...

  4. As a nurse practitioner for 30 years, I see this as the same level of panic and crazy as what occurred during the swine flu and SARS outbreaks. I always practice good handwashing wherever I am. Since there is no treatment I am not sure about the value of testing. If you are sick with any virus you need to stay home. period. There are no reported cases in the immediate area where I live but if there are I will just stay home. Super easy to have essentials delivered if necessary. I am not buying or stocking up on anything more than normal.

Wow FluffyChix, you've done great! Very happy for you.

The reason I came here with my question is my doctor (surgeon) doesn't want to deal with this. He says "I'm the surgeon", ask your primary care. My primary care says "I'm not a weight loss specialist, the weight loss center should be helping you with this." The hospital, Mass General in Boston, Ma., for some reason, doesn't have a doctor, other than the surgeon, for me to talk to about this. It's very frustrating. All I was told was to eat low fat and low sugar. I'm already doing that. The only other thing I was told is to stay away from Tylenol and other pain killers. My question: for LIFE? Really? Not realistic.

I'm sorry to say that Mass. General's weight loss program isn't good. At least it hasn't been for me. The surgery itself was done very well and I have no complaints about that at all. All other follow up, like with a nutritionist, etc. was pretty much useless. They didn't give me any information I didn't already have and could have easily found online. The post op support is non existent. I could have been the nutritionist I saw because she did retire about 6 months after my surgery. Her heart just wasn't it in. It's my opinion they should have other doctors who are knowledgeable about WLS to help patients who have problems post op. Maybe it's just me.

Bottom line, I have no idea what stage it is. I just know that's what the ultrasound showed and that my liver enzymes are high. ??? The ultrasound results say:

echogenic liver parenchyma which may be related to underlying liver

    disease

Perhaps I should see a liver specialist. I didn't even know there are specialists for the liver. Makes sense.

Hey there...I just looked at the Massachuesetts General Hospital website and they have 8 gastroenterologists/internists that specialize in non alcoholic liver disease. I would ask your PCP and surgeon for an ASAP referral because something is up and you need answers sooner than later. If you are not getting anywhere with them, contact the patient advocate at the hospital and ask them (nicely😃) for help at getting you seen by a specialist. Stay away from the tylenol for sure until you know what is going on. You need your liver to live so please get on the phone ASAP and start the process.

I had my sleeve the day before you did and my liver enzymes were very slightly elevated at the time of surgery which my surgeon said was common with morbid obesity. He said my liver look "perfect" at the time of surgery and when I had the labs checked again at 6 months and i8 months out the enzymes were completely normal. Good luck and please be your own advocate.

  7. Day 29: I am grateful that we are able to pay all our bills and not have credit card or other debt. We do occasionally use a 6 month no interest thing on big purchases (most recently 10 tires) because I hate paying interest.

Well I have really enjoyed this challenge even though I have failed miserably. Weight this morning was 212.4 and I only went alcohol free on 3 days. I did stay within my 4 ounce limit with only a few deviations though. I am just too weak....

  8. Day 28: What about your home are you most grateful for?

I am most grateful that we were able to pay off the mortgage this past April so I no longer have a house payment. When we bought it 15 years ago I am so grateful that interest rates were low enough that we could do a 15 year mortgage. Makes thinking about retirement so much easier when I know we have a secure, comfortable home that belongs to us.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

    That whole outfit looks fantastic!!

  10. Only you can decide if it is worth it to you. I had my sleeve at age 60 and it is by far the best thing I could have done for myself. I had horrible asthma/COPD , horrible lower back and leg pain and borderline high blood pressure. All of these comorbidities have completely resolved and I feel so much better. My tastes in food have changed but I am able to enjoy what I eat and not feel deprived.

  11. Day 26: The meal I was most thankful for yesterday was my grilled cheese sandwich made with cauliflower sandwich thins, pepper jack cheese and cooked taco meat. Sooooo tasty.

Day 27: I am very grateful for the beauty of so many parts of the US, still some places I want to see but it is just hard to describe how gorgeous Rocky Mountain National Park, Zion National Park, Lake Tahoe and so many other places are. The fact that I am able to move about freely all over the county makes me very grateful.

My favorite part: I used her she used me
    But neither one cared
    We were getting our share

My musician friend sings this one and it is one of my favorites.

  13. Day 24: I think I wrote this previously but I am most grateful for Facebook for letting me reconnect with long lost friends and famiy members that I would never be in touch with otherwise. And to be able to see pictures of pets, kids, grandkids etc.

Day 25: As far as the city we live in I am most grateful that it is not as crowded and busy as Austin or Dallas but still has enough going on to be enjoyable. I will never live in a huge city again.

  14. Day 23: Hard to express gratitude for my phone since I basically hate it but it is necessary in the current times. I do like being able to use the calendar so I do not have to keep up with appointment cards or papers. That is about it. I am grateful that I am not obsessed with talking while driving, shopping, eating etc.
