    Fighting the Negativity

I have had mostly supportive people. It is very true when you can sense it in people's tone when they voice their concern or opinion. To those "Debbie Downers, I think "Just be happy for me for Christ sake, I'm getting healthier"! Ready or not here I come
  2. As I approach my surgery, I have started my pre-op diet which is designed to shrink the liver prior to surgery. Day basically consists 3 protein shakes, 3 protein based snacks, and 1 meal of lean protein (chicken, pork, (fish:64_zipper_mouth:) 1-2 cups veggies and if room to eat more, a starch).

I ordered the Syntrax Nectar line of all their flavors in sample packets. As I go though them, I'll rate 1 to 5, 5 being delicious.

So Wednesday for breakfast, I tried the double stuffed cookie- I rate this one a 5 tasted great and didn't leave a bad after taste in my mouth. For evening snack, I had the vanilla bean torte. I'd rate this one a 4. It almost reminded me of melted vanilla ice cream with the ice blended.

This morning, I had the caramel mocchiato- probably a 2. It leaves an after taste in my mouth. Not a fan. That's where I am right now. I will try either fuzzy navel for lunch or ice tea. Hopefully they will taste better than the CM.

    Just got the Call!!

@newmeinfla I started my 2 week pre-op diet today. Ugh, it's been rough but necessary! Protein shake for breakfast, a protein bar for snack, steamed chicken and veggies for lunch and now another protein bar and then another protein shake for dinner in a bit. My energy is down a bit since my caloric intake is so small but I have a desk job so I think I'll be okay! It's good you are starting the liquid diet now. It should be nice to ease into the liquid post op! Rooting for you 25th twinny!

    July Sleeve

2 more weeks, I'll be re-sleeved. I started my 2 week pre-op diet to "shrink the liver" before surgery. So far, so good. It's been really difficult to consume so much water. I have a hard time getting 2/ 16oz. bottles down but I know how important it is. That said, I also need to begin my nascobal (vit B12 spray), multi and calcium. I'm so fortunate to have this opportunity, AGAIN...and get my health back on track.

    regretting my sleeve

@Skinnygirl04 I'm getting a revision. I can tell you that my initial surgeon had tendency to push for the stages sooner than other patients. The warning signs are your body's way of telling you ENOUGH. In my case, my nose would run and my heart would beat fast...sounds strange but they are effects with some people. In regards to soup as more of a puree, the thickened ones I did the sip shots out of a medicine cup like the water after your surgery. It worked and usually after 3 to 4 sips, it was game over and my nose would run. Hope this helps.

    Apps

@BrookeRBaritastic is a wonderful app. It breaks down, protein, carbs and fat and under each meal. You can log in your food intake as well as water and plenty more!

    July Sleeve

I have my pre-op "liver shrinking diet" starting 2 weeks before my scheduled surgery of 7/25/18. It basically consist of 3 high protein shakes less than 200 calories, 2 high protein snacks and 1 high protein meal. If I were to do the meal for dinner for example, it should be something like 6 oz. of lean protein (chicken, fish or pork), 2 cups raw or cooked non-starchy veggies and then 1/2 cup of starch like a potato. and if wanted 1/2 tsp. pf fat. Went to Jenkinson's Boardwalk in Point Pleasant, NJ yesterday with my hubs and 2 year old son and had my own "food funeral" of the bad beach foods! The struggle is all to real!

  13. Hi July people! Are you ready for this? Happy, excited, nervous? Any revision patents out there? Have you tried out your protein shakes yet? My hospital and surgeon is requiring me to have a 2 week pre-op diet to shrink my liver prior to VSG surgery. I purchased the Syntrax Nectar sample packets. With 17 flavors, I can weed out the ones I like and don't like. Otherwise, I'm ready to do this! What about you guys?! Are you ready?

    Will they postpone surgery?

I'm on the Vitamin D 50,00 IU 1x/week as well. Vitamin D deficiency is not at all uncommon. The want me to repeat blood work 3 months after I take the last dose to see where I am at. p.s. doc said sunlight helps too!

    Body fat?

I like when the bmi and weight scale spits out your body "age" ....LMAO...apparently I'm 52...

    GENEPRO? What's up?

The syntrax nectar is great because there are 17 different flavors. You can try them all if you purchase the assorted samples through bariatricpal. They have fruity and milky flavors. They don't have the grit like other protein shakes do.

    Another surgery?

I'm going for a revision @polican. I had my VSG October of 2012. Surgery morning weigh in was 253. I lost 98 lbs. I kept it off for the latter part of 4 years. I had my son July of 2016 and only gained about 20 lbs during the pregnancy. But then I was switched on 3 different medications for anxiety and depression. Effexor ER before pregnancy, Wellbutrin during pregnancy and then Prozac and finally Lexapro after. Sadly, the Prozac made me gain almost 70 lbs. within 10 months time. I decided it was time to get a revision with the consent of my surgeon and my primary care physician. July 25th is my surgery date. I'm currently enrolled in my 3 month program with the weight management center and my hospital. Sometimes life challenges us and we fail but there is always light at the end of the tunnel. If you think having a revision is right for you, do it! Make sure you have the support and reach out to them when you are having a tough time. It's something I didn't do the first time around. Talk to the patients and doctors. I'm the type of person that thinks I can handle my problems on my own but that's exactly what got me to where I am today! Whatever decision you make, know that you are not alone! Good luck!

    July Sleevers...Holla!

@AshAsh12 that's great! Wishing you the best! In my book to prep us before surgery, the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver which sits right next to the stomach. The body does some crazy things!

Chunkysoup- YASSS! Having other patients to talk to and the support is key! This unfortunately isn't my first rodeo (had my 1st vsg october of 2012) Support and having the resources when you fall off the wagon is crucial for staying on track! I can honestly say after having my son and switching my medications that I didn't utilize my resources with successful weight loss. I lost 95 lbs and gained 65 back. I'm luckily getting a second chance to make it right! FutureRN19- Happy early birthday! What a great present! Here's to a healthy new life for you!

    VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

@TexasMommy80 Love the updates! I just happen to click on your story in the forum! Congrats on your surgery and your weight loss success. I will receive my surgery date this Thursday with my surgeon, Dr. Boorse (for my VSG revision.) I can vouch about the Syntrax Nectar. When I had my first VSG in 2012, my sister n law recommended I try the sample packs and see which ones I liked and then order the big barrel of my favs. There are lots of fruity ones like crystal lite or kool-aid and packed with protein. Great to read, you are doing so well!

    Sleeve Revision

I also wanted to add that most likely it is all in your head. You will drive yourself nuts trying to compare yourself to someone else when we are all different! I'm sure you both are doing wonderful! Keep it up man! Learn from me....lol since I'm here all over again!
  25. Hi Baripals! So I originally had VSG surgery in October 2012. At 253 lbs. the morning of weight in, I was pre-diabetic and had PCOS among other things. Fast forward almost 6 years, my doctor & I have made the decision to have a revision. I had initially lost about 95 lbs. and kept it off for 4 years until I had my son July of 2016. Even after I had him, I had only gained about 20 lbs. during pregnancy. I totally went off the "deep end" and started to go back to old habits like eating and drinking at the same time, not making healthy food choices, not chewing enough, eating/drinking ravenously, drinking carbonated beverages. etc. I was also switched on anti-depressants during my pregnancy and then switched again and then AGAIN! The previous anti-depressants had weight gain as a side effect on top of my poor eating habits. Doc. requested blood work and an upper GI test and confirmed I had dilated my pouch. I honestly feel like a failure but I know what I have to do. My husband will be going in to have VSG sometime this year too so I know I have to be strong for both of us. I don't want him to end up like I did. Has anyone else had sleeve revision. Any tips for this struggling mom?
