Long term side effects of vsg

Gah it seems like everyone has had it removed during surgery or already had it out. That is one thing I am slightly worried about but I guess I will just make sure it's checked beforehand and if they see anything I'll look into same time removal
  2. Well i hope you are finding the community helpful! i really enjoy reading through the forums there are so helpful and encouraging! You seem like you are doing amazing! I have also heard osteoporosis can be an issue but i as well have not been able to find any studies done on it. I think a sleeve has a less likely chance because the mal-absorption in lower than other wls but it is still a possible side effect! I have yet to hear someone who after the healing phase regrets this surgery! I understand when you say we should all love ourselves but it can be hard when you are loosing a battle, and feeling uncomfortable in your own skin! I am glad you have had minimal effects long term! this gives me hope that i can do this! Do you still have your gallbladder? This is one thing i am slightly worried about i know it is only about 20% of people who have issues... Thank you so much for sharing you're inspiring it is amazing to see people doing so well!

Long term side effects of vsg

Thank you so much! sorry i worded that weird i totally didn't mean people wern't maintaining their weight loss i meant people that had met goal and are in the "maintaining phase" That doesn't sound too bad, as you've said you shouldn't eat those anyway! i am glad to hear you are doing so well 5 years post op! One question do you still have your gallbladder?

Long term side effects of vsg

Sorry that isn't what I meant I should reword this. I meant people who are in the "maintain" phase we're they are at goal weight and just trying to maintain the weight they want. Haha Should have read that before I posted. I have seen a ton of people do so well also! Just wanted to see some people who were out of the fist year or so!
  5. Have you had any long term side effects from wls? What procedure did you get? I haven't really been able to find anyone who has stuck around in the community for longer than a year or two. Does life feel normal again?.
  6. We have pretty close to the same stats ( w-231lbs h-5'3") and i am also hoping to get down into the 130s! i am still in pre-surgery insurance song and dance but i am optimistic seeing all the success on here. I think we just need to trust the process and i think when you see the weight coming off it is more motivation to do even better at eating right and exercising!

    Holidays and traveling?

Yeah i bet it can be frustrating at times but you seem like you are doing awesome! Head hunger is so real haha i know it will be a struggle for me as well! I am excited to see how far you come by the time i get surgery! Yeah we plan to make it there very soon! traveling is a passion for me! It is one of the few things that really make me feel alive! That train ride is amazing i would highly recommend it! When we went to Scotland we got an unlimited rail pass. Well worth the money if you plan on riding the trains alot!

    Holidays and traveling?

I am just curious if anyone has any issues feeling left out during holidays and traveling. Since most everything these days revolves around food I'd like to hear some experiences

    Metabolism?

Guys I am worried that this surgery won't be able to help me... I've been the chubby kid my whole life even when I was at my most active I've been considered overweight. I'm just wondering with a slow metabolism is there still hope that a sleeve will help me ☹️🤷 Sent from my Pixel using BariatricPal mobile app

    Metabolism?

Yeah i know being active is very important and i really try to be! luckily i have 2 dogs who insist on going to the park everyday so that is a really good source of exercise for me! Were you a "chubby" child as well? Ive always been chubby but im definitely obese now. i am hoping my body will be ok and the weight will go away with the exercise, restriction and healthy eating! how much weight have you lost if you dont mind me asking? If you dont want to share i totally understand

    Holidays and traveling?

Bummer, at least you have found something that works for you though! I am hoping that i do ok after surgery and am able to tolerate most things! I too am a social drinker i usually only have a few drinks and really only get drunk maybe twice a year so cutting it isnt an issue. I dont plan to share my journey with anyone either so i am sure i will get some weird responses at holiday gatherings ect. But that is ok! I am totally ok with it haha just keeping it between my husband and i. Yeah i am curious also! I haven't really found a lot of people with my same w/h so that is cool! Well your stat says you are 34.4 pounds down that is amazing! i bet it feels slow whenever i loose weight i never feel different and its hard to trust the process when its slow, but it looks like its working! I have seen a lot of people not loose pounds but they are fitting into clothes that haven't fit in years! so something is happening! Have to watch for those No Scale Victories too! We stayed in Scotland for 9 days. I would highly recommend going to Stirling castle & the National Wallace monument in Stirling. It was so beautiful also scary to climb to the top but what a view! Also if you have ever watched brave heart it was cool to see! We took a train from Glasgow all the way up to Mallaig. So cool it is rated one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. You get to see the highlands, lochs and Scottish coos on the way. Also on this ride you actually cross the famous bridge in the harry potter flying car scene. It is a long ride but so so beautiful. It ends in a little coastal town that is so quaint, you can also get to the isle of sky from here. There is a really cool very old graveyard in Glasgow called the Necropolis. It has amazing views and some really cool old graves and monuments its worth a look around! The Scott monument in Edinburgh is really cool. just take a train to Waverley station and go outside in the heart of Edinburgh it is unlike anything. walk the royal mile and try a scotch pie, there is a place in Edinburgh called Pie maker. Amazing and super cheap! Of course try haggis, it sounds scary but it is actually pretty good and what Scotland is known for. i could recommend all day haha everything there is beautiful! Weve had a hell of a time trying to decide between Italy or France ect. i have hear so much good about italy!

    Progress!

I have my seminar next week and it feels like things are going to slow but after this it seems like it may go very fast! i am so nervous but this community has made it so much better! Im glad the endoscopy went well! ive never had one and ive never been put under any sedation at all. No surgeries of any kind. Honestly terrified but i really want this! Just a couple steps closer! Congrats!

    Holidays and traveling?

Well i am glad it has been a good journey so far! I hear it will get better a lot of people are intolerant to water at first! That is good you haven't had any dehydration issues! that terrifies me honestly! Isn't that funny that water and vitamins are what give you trouble haha. Dang it! how did you do with protein shakes? Ah yeah i can see alcohol doing that, i am not an avid drinker but i dont mind it every once in a while and honestly its usually during travel! But yeah i would avoid it if it stalled my weight loss too! You seem like you are doing amazing though! We are the same height and basically same weight (starting) i am excited to follow your journey since we have a similar BMI! Yes Scotland was AMAZING the people, the weather (i like mild weather not hot), the architecture! Where are you staying? We thoroughly enjoyed Edinburgh over Glasgow its much older but they both are really cool and the train ride in between cities is so short! like 50 mins each way! No i have never been to Paris, Brussels, or Amsterdam! I am soo excited! I have heard amazing things about paris so i am really looking forward to it! Anything you did there that you would reccommend i know you say you didnt spend much time there but i am curious Also Italy was a close second on our list i have heard nothing but good things about Rome! I love Europe in general! If i could move there i probably would!

    Holidays and traveling?

You wont be able to indulge but you can still try things i think a cruise is probably an awesome way to have your first vacation post wls! Where are you visiting? Congrats on getting a surgery day! hope recovery goes well! I am still pre surgery as well but i am ready to be sleeved!

    Holidays and traveling?

Yes! I cannot agree more! Im glad someone understands what I am saying. I don't want to go gorge myself but I do want to experience the food and culture. We walk so much on vacation, and I totally understand being restricted but still trying all the things you want... And yes I travel literally maybe 3 weeks out of the year at most I think that's acceptable. How is it making sure you get your water in while vacationing? How long have you been sleeved? Have you had any issues with your sleeve and eating certain things, and drinking beer? I am also a beer lover but I have been curious about the alcohol and carbonated drinks. I know it doesn't have any effect on some. But others can't drink it. I went to Scotland last year. Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been too! Is it your first time? [emoji2]

    Metabolism?

My eating habits have been less than ideal for the past few years... But I am changing that. I am on a no sugar/low carb diet and have been for a while but I still have a hell of a time loosing weight. My body just likes to hold on to it. It also doesn't help that after a graduated college I now sit for 10 hours a day for work. I am ready to change and ready for this. I just wondered if anyone has had a similar background... I just don't want to fail.

    Holidays and traveling?

We walk so much when we travel! I went to Scotland last year and didn't gain a pound even though i ate whatever i wanted. that being said we did average about 15 miles a day... i am so excited! If i am not sleeved ill definitely try what i want but i will still have to restrict myself especially if im on pre-op plan or anything they need me to do to qualify for surgery! Yes i believe this surgery definitely makes it easier to make better decisions! You look like your doing amazing!

    Holidays and traveling?

You lived in Greece for 15 years?! Amazing! I am obsessed with the thought of living abroad ahha it's like a new start where no one knows who I am [emoji23] Yes I have come to realize I can try things but the whole point of this surgery is to change my habits. Instead of eating a 2lb bowl of pasta you can just have a bite and still enjoy it! I am so excited I don't expect I'll be sleeved by then but I am just curious about how everyone feels [emoji4] Sent from my Pixel using BariatricPal mobile app

    Holidays and traveling?

Your right. I just need to change what I am excited about... Haha this reminds me of a quote I once saw that read... "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." I unfortunately have been chubby my whole life so Ive never felt that feeling. But I am so ready to feel comfortable in my own skin. You've put it in perspective for me... Holidays and traveling?

Your right it's not all about the food, and right now I have a bad relationship with food which is why I want surgery. I have changed my habits drastically and follow a low carb diet. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to eat pasta in italy and waffles in Belgium. I have heard some people can't tolerate carbs after surgery... Which may be a good thing my husband says... And I agree. I am going to Paris, Brussels, & Amsterdam in a few months! I am crazy excited and I don't think I'll be sleeved by then but I just wanted to see what others thought. I have my first appointment for wls next week. I am nervous and excited just trying to do all the research I can.
  22. Have you travelled with your new sleeve? Do you ever feel like your missing out because of it ie holidays/events? Does water intake get easier? I am terrified of not being able to get in enough water and that I will become weak and dehydrated. Recovery? The good bad the ugly? Bowel movements? Different than they used to be? Just starting my insurance process. Congratulations on your success. This community is amazing and I love seeing the success, honesty and positive things everyone has to say 💜

    Doing My Research

Hi Everyone! I just want to hear some of the best advise you can give regarding WLS the good the bad the ugly! I am an avid traveler and i am worried about how this will affect that, and your daily life! Is it different now? Are you happier? I suffer from anxiety i have never had any type of surgery and quite honestly it terrifies me. i have extreme anxiety about anything medical related and i have what i would consider "worst case scenario brain" i enjoy torturing myself and looking up all that could go wrong with the surgery... but i am so tired of feeling like this, and have seen so many beautiful success stories it motivated me! I have been the "chubby kid" my whole life. At this point i am more than chubby but i have such a hard time loosing weight. I feel like the Gastric Sleeve is my only chance at truly being happy. I am extremely tired of living in a body i am uncomfortable with and ashamed of. I hope there is a light at the end of this tunnel. I am attending my first seminar next week to find out the process of insurance acceptance. I am very hopeful but also worried i will get denied. <3

    Doing My Research

I am so happy to hear you have had an easy and quick recovery! Congratulations on the weight loss that is so exciting! I have such a rough relationship with food. I am just afraid if I travel I will "miss out" on everything I want to try. Which is totally dumb. I am hopeful that when I get sleeved I can still enjoy them just in a much smaller healthier proportion. Vacation shouldn't revolve around food. But it seems like life in general these days does 😪
