Bree130 got a reaction from chayarg in Uncontrollable binge eating PO
I’m going through this too. Especially with being cooped up inside. Could really use some serious help now. Sounds crazy but it’s feels good to hear I’m not the only one. I’m 2 years out as well....

    Has anyone else experienced this?
    I'm 2+ yrs PO sleeve
My brain sometimes gets into the mode where I "must" eat and I cannot stop. Yesterday I ate like 7 bowls of cereal!!! I typically dont even like Cereal but for some reason I just couldn't put down my spoon. While I'm eating I know I'll regret it later but I just can't stop. I'm suffering the consequences of this like crazy. My tummy is going crazy and I'm gaining weight. I dont remember doing this pre op. I just dont understand where this is coming from. I didn't calculate but I'm pretty sure I hit over 3,000 cals yesterday.

    I love the shirt!
How did it go? How was navigating the race structure/set up? All your hard work and seeing how strong you truly are inside and out is an amazing feeling. Congrats on your race.

Mine went fine. Still recovering a bit.
  5. Congrats!

My half marathon is on the 18th. I’m carb loading this week. Sweet potatoes are my go to. Spaghetti the night before. I get runners stomach on long runs. (It happens to runners that haven’t had surgery) I do liquid carbs day of and on my route. Its trial and error to find what works.
I cant wait to see your photos. I hope its a great day for you.

Congrats! I'm so excited for you. Please post some photos after your run.
Can I ask when you had surgery? How has your training been? What distance have you ran prior? Have you had any issues fueling pre race or during running?
The running community is a fantastic, positive supporting group of people. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy the day.
If you’re not comfortable around the crowd. Wear ear buds in one ear and listen to your play list. Keep one ear bud off to listen for runners around you while on the route. Sometimes its like herding cattle until people get though the start line.
    Check online for the following:
Packet pick up is fun. Usually the day before or day of the race. Go the day before. You will get an idea of the people you will be running with. It’s nice to have your shirt and race number pre-race.
Look up you race route. Take note of Water, food and porta potty stations along your route. Take your own food that you can tolerate. Many stations have Gatorade with sugar. Avoid it. The last thing you want is an upset stomach on the run.
    Race day:
Parking can be an issue. Check to see if they provide a shuttle to get you to the start and take you back to your car and the end of your run.
If your race start and finish lines are different locations.: Check to see if the run provides a bag drop off. It may be cold in the morning. You can place warm clothing/coat in a bag. Put your race number name etc. on it. There will be an information booth at the start line. Ask where to load your bag. They will bring it to the finish line at end of the race for pick up.
Head to the start line: Woohoo! Get pumped up.
Many races have recovery food and after party at the end. If you feel comfortable hang out and take in your accomplishment.

I had surgery 3/2018. As soon as they gave me the ok to exercise, I did and have built up since then. For the few weeks I’ve been able to complete 13.1 miles. I run 3x a week and cross train. Running schedule consists of 4 hill miles, then a fast 6 miles then the long run. Cross training consists of weights and HIIT on off days and 2 rest days. Fueling has been ok. Although, I hate eating Pasta now, I eat it before I run and while I run I drink Gatorade. Still haven’t mastered the stomach issues that come after my long run though 😦 After reading your post, that Gatorade may be the issue, lol!!

Running my first race on 5/19. It will be one hell of a race because it’s a long distance. I can complete the distance on my own an I am confident I will do well. My question is, what can I expect? How are these things structured? I am nervous because I’ve never done one of these and being around all those people running at the same time, lol. And advice would be appreciated :)

I am in the same boat you are in. I was sleeved 3/26/18 and down 140 lbs. Started around 290lbs, now approx 150lbs (it fluctuates). My gym pointed out the picture I took when I first joined and I couldn’t even recognize myself. I had to take a closer look. I do exercise a lot. Love running now and want to do a half marathon in May. However, I just missed my first period (unrelated to pregnancy) in 22 years. To me it’s sign of too much, too soon. Need to pay a visit to the nutritionist to educate myself on how to properly fuel while training and gyno of course. I really do not pay mind to others opinions of how thin I may look to them. After all, these are people who love me and are used to seeing me obese....I understand their views but I am at a healthy weight/BMI so there is no cause for concern. However, I also need to make sure all is good on my part when my body sends a warning.

Thank you for posting this. Very much needed. Good luck and congrats :)

I’m 5 months post op and running about 4 miles 4 times a week. I’m trying to prevent injury so resting in between.Cross training is something i need to do more but I love the simplicity of jogging and love how far I’ve come in 5 months. I have about 7 more lbs to lose until I hit 100lbs lost. Once I get there I will invest in personal training and begin toning and building muscle hopefully that will propel me to a 10k. I can’t wait 🤩 Good luck to you on your journey.

I took 2 weeks and did well. I did not have a choice. But if you can take 3, why not? It’s a big adjustment and focusing on yourself for as long as you could will only benefit you.

Since this surgery, certain things have amazed me. First, how tastes change. I think this is crazy! Like Creekimp13 said, I’ll take the distaste for sweets for now! Second, how weight fluctuates after. I was teetering between the same 4 lbs for weeks. Exercising/eating well. Then just this morning I was down an additional 4 lbs out of nowhere.

Used to love eggs and ham. Hate them now.
Used to love pork chops. bleh.
Used to hate oatmeal and avacado...LOVE them now.
Used to hate salmon...can't get enough.
Keep trying new things. Tastes change. No clue why. Take advantage of when they land on a good-for-you square:)

Good to hear the aversions are there! There are times Where I’ll just drink a Protein Drink in place of eating because I just don’t want to do it! Never in my life have I spoken these words, lol!
