    Today’s fun :)

Good for you! Ha, ha! Under 250 was my first goal, made it a few days ago. 😁 I am finally in the weight maximum for my dining room chairs, folding lawn chairs, and my kayak. Not that it has stopped me, I like to live on the edge 🤣

    Relationships and WLS

So glad you are free of him! Congratulations and keep Going! Take care of you and the right man will come along.
  3. Insurance companies do the math. They are concerned with profits, not your health. If the insurance company pays for bariatric surgery In the long-term they are probably saving Medicare money, not themselves. Many insurance companies have found that bariatric surgery costs them money bc people lose weight and qualify for skin removal and other surgeries (hips/knees/hernias/cardiac). It is cheaper for insurance to pay for the CPAP and diabetes supplies for a few years, then pass the patient on to Medicare or another insurance company. There are a few physician's groups and patient advocate organizations working to change this, but it is a slow process.
  4. I am almost 1 month out and have had to make adjustments to get in my water. 2 of my 6 small meals are protien shakes. They are more filling than water and slow me down a little, but I can keep drinking without any 30min limit. Still fell satisfied. And the protien shakes add to my fluid for the day. Maybe later I will have to adjust again . . . .
  5. I am also exactly 3 weeks and 3 days. Be careful with the scale, it is crazy and not your friend. 😉 I initially lost some, then gained and lost the same 2 pounds for a week then suddenly lost 5 pounds. All of this change is fluids, transitioning to solids, and my body healing. Don't stress too much. This is different for everyone. If you follow the plan, you will lose. Call your nutritionist if you are concerned. Maybe they can help you make adjustments if needed.
  6. I need to fly for work, all day 2 long flights unfortunately. Any ideas on good travel foods? My layovers aren't long enough to even try to get something healthy in an airport. I grabbed some protein packets to make shakes on the go. But at this stage I do need a little food to not be hungry, especially for an entire day. . . . I am 3.5 weeks and have tolerated most foods I have tried. Any bright ideas?
  7. Sillykitty: most of the pat-downs I got were flying while pregnant. Most airports have pregnant women skip the scanner, which forces a pat down Every. Single. Time. Then comes flying with breast milk. It has gotten easier, but some airports make you go through a lot for that too. Overall, I have found going through security to be unnecessarily invasive. Thankfully most of my travel is for pleasure, not work. This trip is just sort of inconvenient 3 weeks after surgery.
  8. Way to go! You didn't just take off pounds, you took off years. You look so much younger in the second photo!

    Feel like I’m failing

I am sorry you are going through this. Calling the nutritionist is a great idea. Take it one day at a time, one healthy meal at a time. My favorite meal website is skinnytaste. Check it out, healthy food can be yummy too. You lose weight in the kitchen and keep it off in the gym. More exercise might help. Exercise motivates me to eat better for sure. It isn't easy and you sound like you are stressed. Post a little more info and everyone might be able to be more helpful. Hang in there!
  10. Good to know. I will definately pack some. But if I get another pat down. . . . . I will blame you 😐 It is a stupid joke, but completely serious. Not one has ever touched me in those places with out buying me a drink (or being my doctor)
  11. Ooo! Cheese sticks and nut butter packets are a great idea! Someone else suggested putting protien powder in baggies. Obviously never met the TSA. Still have flashbacks from all the pat downs I got while pregnant, not to mention flying with breast milk 😞
  12. Wow! What an emotional ROLLER COASTER! Amazing to be pregnant after trying so long, but timing kinda off. Call your surgeon and OB. Make sure you talk to the nutritionist too. Your team can get you through this. 🤗 Keep us posted!

Fainted on MJ edibles (in a bad place!)

Edibles! They cause all kinds of problems 🤢! All legal here in Oregon. In the hospital where I work we see people all the time that OD on edibles. It is hard to know how much THC you are getting. I'm not sure how much WLS effects THC absorption. What happened to you sounds more like dehydration. But still, be careful with them edibles dude!
  14. Yes, way less sweaty. It started for me right after the surgery before I even lost much weight. One more thing for everyone to look forward to!

    Advice

The unflavored protien are just that, unflavored. But they still have a taste and change whatever you put them in. I like Unjury reg chocolate whey protien powder. I mix it with almond milk, not so creamy/heavy as mixing with milk, less calories too. Skim milk has 90 calories/8oz and almond milk has 30 calories/8oz. There is also a 50/50 almond milk and coconut milk combo I like, tastes like an almond joy when mixed with chocolate protien powder. 😊 You might want to check other threads for suggestions. Unjury was one of the first ones I tried and I stuck with it bc it tastes good, has no chalky aftertaste, and doesn't make frothy bubbles when I shake it up in my blender bottle.

Backup birth control/using a second type?

1.35% with 2 methods is still technically less effective than an IUD, which is over 99%. Please also remember that these percentages don't apply to you after weight loss surgery bc you are more fertile. The increase in fertility comes from hormones, so you should have the most effective hormonal birth control out there. If your goal is to not use condoms, then I would definately get on something besides the patch. I totally understand, condoms literally ruin sex for me. I hate them. You also mentioned that you were new to sexual activity. Trust me when I say that there is a learning curve to managing birth control and we have all had a few scares over the years. (Missing a pill, period late a day or 2, condom broke/expired) Do some research and reconsider an IUD.

Backup birth control/using a second type?

Talk to your OB, not your primary, about all of the options out there. I am a nurse, but this is not my area of expertise. What I do know for sure is that the patch is not as effective as other methods of birth control. Patches 91% effective, while many other things are 99% effective. Condoms are 85% effective- condoms are more effective if used properly, but no one does. So the real world rate of condom effectiveness to prevent pregnancy is 85%. (Sorry, had to add that in case anyone wanted to argue about the number compared to what it says on the box) So you are combining 2 of the least effective methods of birth control during the post-op phase of increased fertility. Increased fertility is supposed to last from 15-18 months after surgery. Sounds like you might be a mommy soon if you don't figure out another combination. 😕 Definately talk to an OB.
  18. I am 36yr old and 5'4". Starting weight/surgery weight 268 pounds. Was sleeved 5/09 and am down 20 pounds as of TODAY! Losing weight was always very difficult for me. I felt like I was starving and exercising like crazy with little to no results. But the surgery has helped so much! I still feel hungry here and there, but nothing like before. So happy I did this! Don't wait, start the process now bc it takes a while. You can change your mind anytime b4 the operating room.

    To tell coworkers or not?

This is so personal and depends a lot on your work environment. I told everyone I work with and they were all supportive and kind. In fact 2 co-workers are now going to have surgery after talking about it with me. BUT I wouldn't have shared if I worked in a different environment. I am a nurse at a center of excellence for WLS. This saves me from about 20 million questions. I have been super annoyed having to explain the surgery over and over to non-medical people. Thier stoopid questions and "advice" gets old really fast. It reminds me of being pregnant and nursing, everyone thinks they get to have an opinion and tell you exactly what to do. Even if they are supportive, it gets old. Be prepared for this if you tell a lot of people.

12 days post-op. Depressed and struggling

OMG! ^^^ this^^^! Real hunger is tough. So are the emotions and hormones attached to food and completely changing everything about your life. The struggle is real! But you will get through it.
  22. My boys are 4 and 1. My husband was also home the first week. I actually felt pretty good, after 4-5 days I was just taking Tylenol once in a while. When my husband wasn't there the main issue was the diapers, couldn't lift him up to changing table. Changing on the floor wasn't great either, not that easy to get up and down. Don't be hard on yourself. Half-ass is just fine for a week or two while you recover. Go stock up on things they like to eat that are easy and relax. My kids ate a lot of pb and j and dinners were often frozen stuff from trader joes. It will be ok.

12 days post-op. Depressed and struggling

So sorry you are having a rough time. This is a huge life change. What you described sounds like you are going through a grieving process or withdrawal from food addiction, which can also be a grieving process. Totally normal after such a huge life change. Don't feel hopeless. . . Please... just take care of yourself by drinking water and trying for the protien goals. You won't get a vitamin deficiency if you miss a few while you adjust to tour new routine. Be easy on yourself, this is a lot to take. keep coming here for support. Sending you virtual hugs ☺

  25. My surgeon's plan is pretty open. Protien first then veggies and fruits, carbs last for now. I'm only 1 month out. For some reason certain forms of protien are more filling to me than others. I am still in the trial and error stage of figuring put my new stomach. My portions are small, so to meet my protien goals I still need shakes. Today I had a few bites of veggies and avocado with my protein and I felt MUCH better. I can still only eat very small portions and softer food, so I was hesitant to add anything. Turns out I feel better on a "balanced diet". Ha ha. 😃 Not sure I can call 1/2 cup of food balanced, but that's what it is for now. I am going to stick with veggies, avacado, and plant protien to balance my diet. Good news is it's grilling season and grilled veggies are magical, I love them SO much. Will definately add fruit as certain things come in season. . . . . I mean who can seriously pass up fresh peaches and blueberries?
