I have thought the same as another reader, that my higher weight wouldn't allow me to get to a normal weight (362 now, for a 5'3" woman), but your progress gives me hope. Men really seem to drop weight fast but I hope I can too.

I JUST realized that I have already reduced my BMI enough to get out of the Extreme/Morbid Obesity category. I am now "just" obese. Did I ever think I would Celebrate such a thing? No! But here I am absolutely thrilled about it! My body may not yet "show" what I've done, but it IS making a difference.

I eat anywhere from 60-100 grams of Protein a day. I do not eat added sugars. I eat very few things that have more than 10 grams of sugar in a serving unless it is fresh fruit. I fence (as in en garde) 5 hours a week. I spent another 2 - 3 hours doing strength training, agility and yoga or pilates. I drink at least 64 ounces of Water a day - probably double that on days I fence. Today, I did an hour of Pilates and 45 minutes of lower body/legs weights including squats with about 70 pounds on the bar. I can deadlift more than I weigh by about 20 or 25 pounds. Tomorrow, I will do an hour of core and upper body work. Sunday, I will fence a tournament for 3-4 hours. In 2 hours of fencing, I burn about 1000 calories. I don't eat what I burn. I work hard, but it has all been worth it. I'm trying to get my body fat down to about 26% - hoping to get close to that by the fall.

I'm tentative for May in Dallas. I went through another program for VSG 4 years ago, lost 80 pounds but then chickened out 3 days before the surgery. Regained all that plus some, then to date, lost about 36 of it again. Just started with the doc 3 weeks ago. It's harder staying on track this time, though I am slowly losing. I think the difference is the dietician here is much more vague on the eating so I've been trying to do my best. She said I was eating over 3000 calories to maintain my 370 weight, and to cut it down to 2000 with a goal of 1700. Well I cut it to 1700 from the beginning, keeping track with my food diary and only went over to 2000 once in 3 weeks. I've only lost 7 pounds in 3 weeks though. What scared me more than surgery this time, was not being able to walk. I have severe arthritis in both knees and had several falls and periods of decreased mobility last autumn. That's too much and only 55. So waiting for May.

Ladies, Gentlemen, Fellow Fighters of Fat- How humbled I am to make your acquaintance. For the record, I had to look up how to spell acquaintance. My name is John. I am a 32-year-old father of four little girls, I have a wife, two female dogs, and six fish that I am entirely certain are all female. All living in the same house. On purpose. My surgery is scheduled for March 5 in the AM and my new life is scheduled for March 5 in the PM. I start my 2-week preop diet tomorrow and honestly what I'm most excited about is that I'm actually going to be eating Jell-O (on purpose) for the first time since I was a kid. Well, the first time without it being mixed with everclear and poured in a disposable shot glass.
