Hi .... super nervous, I am out 4 years from lap band removal, doc said 1-5% chance he will do nothing if things don’t look to good on the inside. Also 10% change he would have to do a bypass. I am hoping for s sleeve but my main concerns are strictures do to scar tissue, and and nausea -since having my band out I still have some residual nausea times.i am hopeful it will go smooth but I know surgery day I will be a complete nervous wreck!!! I ordered all my liquids & thought I started a 10 day pre-op but he told me only 7 days yesterday at my final appointment. Pre-op starts Tuesday coming up. Wow is this going Fast - started my journey in October to get a sleeve... it has flown bye! I wish everyone here fast healing and fantastic success. Hope it will be the same here!

Hi all& hope everything is going awesome on your journey:)... I am June 5. Just went to surgeons office today -next month is my last visit12 days before the big day . Before then I have to get ekg , chest X-ray blood work & approval from my PC to clear me for surgery. I am on the last leg of this trip. I was told today I am required to do a 10 day pre-op clear liquids- I think it’s going to be tough!!!!!might be asking some veterans on the sight for some encouraging input on getting through! I talked to the PA today and asked a ton more questions...she put my mind at ease regardless I am extremely nervous. This whole experience is better because of this great group of people ... so much good info & encouragement right when you need it! Thanks all!!! I will try to keep you in the loop it helps me when I hear others and how they are getting through!

Hi I had my lap band in 12 out in 14 ... now 4 years later getting sleeved on June 5 . Very worried about scar tissue too. My doc said when he is in he will decide what’s best. I will let you all know how it goes. Would love to hear success stories from those who have gone through this:)

I’ve read up on outpatient sleeves. My surgeon didn’t offer them, but said if he did, I would be a good candidate. I told him I would like to get the heck out of the hospital after one night. He said he usually keeps patients for two nights but that I could be discharged if everything checks out after one night and that’s my goal. I want to recover at home.
I’m so excited for those that had surgeries this weekend and today! Tomorrow I switch to all Clear Liquids only and then Weds is the big day. I wonder how much my stomach weighs? At least I know that I will lose whatever it weighs during the surgery 😂 I am predicting to be down about 12-14 pounds since starting the preop diet. We shall see on Weds. The nerves are setting in for me big time now. Hence, the rambling!! I took tomorrow off of work since I will be hangry. Maybe I will get a pedicure to help keep me busy!

I’m on the other side!! Surgery went well. I’m feeling no nausea so that’s a huge plus. I’m still on pain meds so it’s all hugs & puppies for now.
im allowed to have ice chips so that’s helping with the thirst. So far so good
how are the other 4 June peeps feeling?

Hello there! Congratulations! I had both done at the same time 5 years ago. It was hard. I did have help though for 1st couple days. If you take your pain meds you can cope. Just make sure you have everything you need close by when your hubby leaves for work: Water ,meds crackers & pillow for tummy - having your Velcro wrap around you tight helps too! When the drains are removed you will feel like a million bucks! Best wishes:) PS Don’t shower till someone is around... I passed out & my husband was there to help. I was fine but my blood pressure dropped a bit! No regrets !!!

I’m 7 months out and I do not have a full feeling at all! I keep my portions small, 3-4 oz., and I’m satisfied. However, I could eat a lot more!! Im vegan, so I eat a lot of Beans and veggies, plus a Protein Shake once a day.
All the best with your new tummy! Congratulations!!

In the boat here. I am on board 80% with pre-op. I got shaky day 2 & ate a radish & some garbanzo Beans ... felt much better. I am allowed cream Soups & I didn’t strain them ( supposed to) so got a little broccoli in the mix. I got a bit worried my blood sugar was wacky because I was shaking . hope not a worry after surgery!??... this is really hard & I feel your pain but we just have to give it our best shot... It would be a shame if it affects the outcome!! Best wishes & hope you get stronger as the next days approach!

Having had WLS once already, I can assure you there is nothing to be nervous about. You have been waiting countless days, weeks, months, years to be happy and healthy and YOU decided to make this change because you WANT it. Stay positive, and know you CAN do it, and it will be amazing. It will be hard at first, you will think to yourself immediately after coming out of surgery "why did I do this to myself" but after a few days, weeks, etc. the weight will start falling off, you will have more confidence, you will be able to move better, gain strength back and your mood will change. There is a time of depression and sadness, but after that ends, you will feel on top of the world!!!

    Hi everyone,
I was banded 10 years ago and have been a member here since then. I am still maintaining my weight despite having the band removed which I know is unusual. As a result I have developed a real interest in what happens to people's identity following all types of bariatric surgery, so much so that I am formally researching this issue as a Masters level student pre PhD in Psychology. I experienced some really interesting changes as a result of my surgery and have seen many people have struggles and succeed over the years. I think understanding that process better may help others - including support services, to navigate their journeys, through what can be an exciting but equally as tough time personally and that's why I am doing this.
Our very kind forum founder Alex Brecher has given his approval for me to carry out my research through this wonderful forum membership. I am looking for people who are willing to talk to me about their journey and answer a few questions just in a conversation. This is expected to take around 30 minutes and can happen in the most convenient way for you including Skype, phone call, messaging or email, wherever you may be in the world, all of which are at my cost of course. You can remain anonymous, the contributions will generate results which will result in an academic paper but no personal details will be divulged.
I know I have received a great deal of help and information from this site over the years and I would like to pay back and contribute to that going forwards, it would be really great if some of you could help me to do that too by giving me half an hour of your time.
Please respond to this post or message me directly if you are interested and I can give more information and organise some time to talk.
Thanks so much for reading this and please do share your story with me.

Question; can I document an entire six months as it happens? The only way I can tell the journey is as it happens.
How I got here; Hi! My name is Johnnie, and I am morbidly obese, and I am also a food addict. 27-years ago, I was a dope smokin, cigarette puffin. soon to be alcoholic. This is when god sent me one of his purist angels, we will call her Elizabeth. This angel accepted me for who I was, but loved me for who I am. When my destructive lifestyle began to corrupt her, she gave me an ultimatum; lose the pot, or lose me... I cannot have both. 27-years ago I quit the destructive habit of smoking dope. Elizabeth and I were also married.
Retaining the other two bad habits of smoking and drinking, I had also started to pack on the pounds. My married weight some 27-years ago fluctuated between 195 to 200 lbs. Over thsee years I tried the Atkins diet, which worked initially, but not before the steadily gaining back the weight. Fast forward to 2002, my weight blew up to 260 pounds. This was also the time my doctor started me on my first of many high blood pressure meds. At this time I also wanted to quit smoking, so my doctor prescribed Welbutrin, and within a month I became a non smoker. This about the time that my drinking got worse, and my weight started to soar again. A brief try at Atkins again proved futile, as my metabolism was not as young as it used to be.
At 300 +/- pounds in 2008, I quit drinking and started dieting again; this time it was the 1600 calorie diet with a daily dose of Phentermine. I managed a measly 50lb loss, before reversing direction. I tried Phentermine a couple more times, and even tossed in the 1200 calorie diet. Nevertheless, my weight was now getting out of hand. I have been plagued with plantar faciitus, sore knees, accompanied by a (un-)healthy dose of low self esteem, it became clear, I need help.
2017 arrived, and I decided to change occupations. In April I started a new career as a professional truck driver. I do not need to describe a truckers lifestyle, accept to say, 2017 was not my best year for decision making. July I came off the truck with a kidney stone. It took 2-attempts to get the stone out, but that little bugger came out. Three days after the last kidney stone procedure, was rushed to the emergency room and diagnosed with multiple pulmonary emboli (blood clots). It was deduced that I got deep vein thrombosis from the truck driver life style, producing the clots that nested in my lungs. Weight in July and August was 298.
I should note here, that through all of the years I also suffered from acid reflux, which I treated with baking soda and Water. But the acid reflux became severe about 5-years ago, before I managed to get a grip on it. I have been reflux free for the last 4-years. This was about the time I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and put on the CPAP machine.
If you skipped ahead in this story, just know that I suffer like so many here, with many of the issues surrounding those two nasty words; Morbid Obesity.
Elizabeth, has never left my side, she has been my rock, my angel, my best friend for life, even now more than ever! With my background story out of the way, I can begin my journey now...
