You look AMAZING!!!!!! Way to go girl!! I’m having surgery tomorrow and I’m sooooo inspired by you!!

Hi there, I also had surgery on May 14. It was supposed to be outpatient but it ended up in the hospital for 48 hours due to not being able to keep even the tiniest sip of liquid down. Two days of violently vomiting while losing my bladder all the same time while still in my hospital bed. Talk about embarrassing! I was utterly exhausted and spent an extensive amount of time sleeping. Moving home made all the difference in the world. For the first time ever I dealt with serious Constipation but a couple servings of baby prunes did the trick. Like you I’m having a lot of internal and incision pain especially when I twist and turn...note to self no twisting and turning. Last night I slept with a really soft pillow against my stomach and that helped when I rolled over. Tomorrow I’ll be able to start the soft food phase and I already have two meals planned out. Crustless quiche made with egg beaters and reduced fat cheese with pulverized turkey bacon, mushrooms, spinach and broccoli. I made this for my husband last month when he was in a soft food phase and the entire family thought it was delicious. The real encouragement is actually realizing weight loss. As of Saturday morning I had lost 9 pounds and could already see a difference. I know it’s tough but hang in there and know that you are absolutely not alone. Can’t wait to hear more about your journey and your successes!

My BFF told my husband and I about Water like Protein Drinks that can be purchased at The Vitamin Shoppe that have 40 grams of Protein. We tried two flavors today and they were soooo much better than the flavored shakes. I think that they are called Isopure. Expensive but worth it if you can’t take another shake.
I’m already planning my soft food menu for this week...crustless quiche made with egg beaters, reduced fat cheese and cooked then pulverized turkey bacon, mushrooms, spinach and broccoli. I made this for my hubby when he went through the soft food phase last month and it was incredible! Our kids loved it and had it everyday too. Also a taco dish made from ground turkey, fat free retried Beans, taco sauce and reduced fat cheese.
Has as anyone checked their weight loss yet? I’m down 9 lbs since surgery Monday. It’s CRAZY!!

Wow!! Good luck on your new journey!! Getting ahead of the nausea is crucial. Today I had waves of nausea but it went away with two Zofran.

Congratulations!!!! That’s awesome! So smart to get a nausea shot before surgery!! I had headaches for the first 3-4 days and once I got back on my regular schedule of meds and was able to keep some foods down they went away. Constipation is real and not fun!! Praise God for baby food prunes! I’m down 9 pounds as of today and am shocked. Can’t wait to hear more about your successes!!

I was sleeved Mon May 14 and my nausea was so severe I couldn’t keep even the tiniest sip of liquids down for the first two days. The nurses tried a variety of nausea meds and Carafate finally worked. It was like a miracle!! It is a drug frequently used for ulcers and it coats your stomach. It has a chalky taste like liquid stomach medicine. I don’t mind it at all. Finally Wed I could keep down tiny sips down and was released from the hospital. I now have a giant bottle to use at home. It was expensive but worth it. Good luck!!

Yep I’m right there with you. I was sleeved Mon May 14 and had such severe nausea that I couldn’t even keep down the tiniest sip of liquid. By Wed morning I finally felt semi human again and was released from the hospital. Nausea has almost completely disappeared and pain is tolerable. Every day gets better!! Welcome to the journey.

AllyJonesVSG, once you get into your own bed you will feel 1000% better than you do now. Getting some quality rest will absolutely do you a world of good. I feel very fortunate that my husband and BFF are guiding me every step of the way as they have been through this stage already. My bit of advice for today...take it slow and gentle, you are healing and take any medications you have one pill at a time. Learned this the hard way this morning. A huge swing of Water and 4 pills taken at one time do not mix. We are all here to support you!!

My husband was sleeved 5 weeks ago and has already lost 54 pounds. Besides the weight-loss my husband has had so many wonderful successes… He’s no longer in pain 24 hours a day seven days a week, we don’t have to park in a handicapped spot at church anymore, he can walk reasonable distances without being breathless, etc. Everyone, of course, has a different experience. While my husband had absolutely no complications whatsoever I was in the hospital for two days because I couldn’t keep down the teeniest sip of Water without vomiting. Now that I’m home and resting I feel so much more human. I just had my very first “meal” of strained 98% fat free cream of broccoli Soup. It was soooo good!! Cheers friend!

Hey Justin, my surgery date was the 14th too. It was also my very first surgery. I have an outrageous headache but for the most part am having bearable pain. Anyone else dealing with headaches post surgery?

My surgery is tomorrow too. I have very little prepared (fluids and Soups for this week mostly) but I’m not worried about anything. My husband had the procedure five weeks ago so we kind of know what to expect if all goes according to plan. Congratulations and may God watch over you!

Wow! I feel so welcome already. Today is my first time posting as I’ve been waiting to find a group that I felt I could connect with. Thank you, thank you for welcoming me/us with open arms. I am so excited to be on this journey with the love of my life but also with all of you as we support each other through every step of this new endeavor.
My husband and I begin our WLS journey January 23 at our first bariatric visit. It was so nice to actually be treated like a “ normal human being” by our doctor/surgeon. There wasn’t the uncomfortable feeling of being incredibly overweight and someone looking down on you for it.
A little about us… I am 45 years old and my husband is 50 years old and we live in Atlanta, Georgia. We have two beautiful daughters age 15 and 11. We own our own business so that means that we’re together day in and day out thank God we are best friends as well as husband and wife!
Never had bariatric surgery even been on our radar prior to December 2017. We traveled to Michigan for the holidays and the process of getting through the airport security lines, etc. was excruciating for my husband. I didn’t think he’d be able to stand the hour to make it through the security line. Little did we know that was just the beginning of next challenges. After a short break we continued to the gate and by the time we got there he was so winded it took several minutes to catch his breath. It was one of the most frightening and eye-opening experiences of our marriage.
While we were visiting family my husband ran into a gentleman who had had the sleeve surgery and lost 180 pounds. The gentleman told my husband that he had not felt this good since high school. That was really a game changer for us.
We have two good friends who have had weight-loss surgery and were very successful but we really never saw ourselves going that route. My husband has several medical conditions including sleep apnea, cardiomyopathy, high triglycerides and several debilitating ailments (back, knee, quad muscle, etc.). His quality-of-life is diminishing right before our eyes. Waiting isn’t an option anymore.
We have read many stories of couples splitting up after WLS when one took the plunge but the other didn’t. On the flip side, we have heard that couples embark on the journey together have a very good success rate which is why we want to walk hand in hand each step of the way.

My husband and I are both scheduled for gastric sleeve surgery April 9. Yep, both of us on the same day!! We’ve been married for 18 years, we own our own business together and feel like this is just another adventure in our lives. I’ve read many posts and feel like I connect with y’all for many reasons. We also live in Georgia and haven’t told many people as family members tend to be critical and not supportive in others aspects of our lives. Our insurance policy does not cover bariatric surgery so we are self pay. This is good and bad. Good in that we are on the super fast track but bad because we don’t have access to the months of training provided as part of the ins requirements.
