    Approved today!?

Got the call today that I was approved for gastric bypass. It’s taken eight months to get to this point, insurance took 13 calendar days to approve and it must be done by 12/31 or I go back through the approval process. Kind of freakin out that right now. They want to schedule for mid November so I have a short window. Was starting to think of doing it after the holidays so there was as little disruption as possible during that time but now pressure is on. One thing is for sure BMI of 47 does not work for me. How hard is the first couple of months and first year? How long were you out for work?

    November Bypass?

I scheduled my surgery today for November 13. That will give me the rest of that week and Thanksgiving week to recover.

I’m getting the unknown column error as well. Click the button three tones and you get the error three times and three posts!
  9. I’ve finished the six months of nut classes and just received my insurance approval this week. I got serious cold feet when the office tried to schedule me for rny in mid November. I’ve spent eight months on this exploration which is life changing in so many ways. Seems the positives are 100-1 but it’s still scary to me. My neighbor had it ten years ago and is a totally different person. I’ve really watched him over the last year and that’s where I want to be but the short term seems like it’s the hardest.

    Approved today!?

That’s good to hear Harsha! To update, I received my pre-approval letter yesterday from insurance and it does state it’s approved until 12/31/18. After that I simply have to reapply. The ins rep stated this was because my insurance ends on the calendar year and deductibles reset. The weird thing is that my plan runs July - June so there would be zero change in benefits. Maybe they are worried about my company changing to another carrier 1/1? Not sure. Looks like the only difference to waiting is that my deductible would reset - I’m maxed out now after all the tests. Still trying to decide on if and when. Still on the fence. Trying to buy a house soon and not sure about surgery then moving.

    Approved today!?

Thank you. I am maxed out this year on my deductible anyways, but my insurance is actually covering this at 100%. Good luck to you as well!

    Approved today!?

Thank you. My insurance apparently said the approval is only good until 12/31 and after that I would have to get re-approved, meaning going through the entire process again, six NUT visits, ekg, etc., etc, but I have not talked to insurance to confirm.

    WHY?

My doctor recommended the sleeve until I told him my insurance only covers the bypass. With Gerd the sleeve doesn’t seem like the best answer.

    Today was a big milestone

    Congrats!
  17. Just curious when most people start taking vitamins with RNY. Did you start taking them after or before surgery, and if before how long before?
  18. @frustr8 yes! It’s the area between Pensacola and Panama City, also known as Lower Alabama, Emerald Coast, and a few other names but RR is the one most embraced by old locals or those not marketing a business. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_Coast

When did you start taking your vitamins?

I agree RapidFirePickle, but my surgeons office wants me to start now to make it a routine. I will definitely try them before to make sure the taste is ok. BeeCat - thank you.
  20. I’m in the same boat as you but six months ahead. In fact had my last of six nut apts yesterday. Just need lab work and X-ray and I can file for insurance approval. I lost six pounds then gained five over the last two months - when I went from having a drink every night to once a week - go figure! My wife had the same responses as you and I approached it as I’m going to go through the steps and then make the decision. I drop comments along the way to peak her interest because I know she will research it. I’ve discussed the biggest loser research, and most importantly the almost seemingly instant cure of co-morbidities. I periodically sent her links to articles as well. It’s unfortunate that WLS is so effective but so under utilized because of the stigma that’s it elective or you should try harder. I look at it as an addiction - do you tell an alcoholic to just stop drinking or a junkie to stop shooting up? No it doesn’t work that way and it doesn’t with weight loss either. Food is a chemical and mental addiction. She’s still not 100% on board but I’d say she’s now 75% and I know she would support me if I decide to go through with it which I’m getting closer to doing. One thing I asked her to do was keep it between us, which she didn’t do and she told my sister. Come to find out my sister is behind it 100% so that has helped. As others have said we can only do this for ourselves but having a spouse on board is very important IMO. I just finished Al Rokers book and now she is reading it. I find it’s easier if others tell my wife their opinion - then she listens more! I’ve read this forum up and down and there’s a lot of good info if you dig. I think the stigma that WLS is giving up is what holds back a lot of people from supporting it at first which is just a lack of knowledge.
