    How long for nicotine/cotinine results?

Thank you! I was hoping that would be the case. 😊

5 mo post op, 10 wks pregnant. Help!

Ahh congratulations on the bump! It sounds like at this point, an obgyn’s perspective may be more helpful than your Bariatric surgeon’s. Stuff like this is why I went and got the Kyleena- because I could totally see this sort of thing happening to me. That said, as you mentioned, it is a super common phenomenon post wls... and from what I’ve saw- it usually ends up perfectly fine with a healthy baby and a healthy mom. My understanding is that the big reason why they don’t want us getting pregnant within the first two years is because this is when we can lose the most from the surgery and not so much that it’s dangerous to the baby. So take a deep breath, exhale and sip, sip, sip.

    I am soooooo tired today

I was exhausted today, too! My nerves have really done a number on my sleep the last few nights. Surgery has to hurry up and get here so I can get my 40 winks in! 😂

    How long for nicotine/cotinine results?

Thank you for this info, but perhaps my question wasn’t quite clear. I’m not worried about what the result will be, as I’m nearly certain it will be negative. I am worried that my surgery will be delayed because the results won’t arrive in time and am wondering how long it has taken others to get their results from this test... Hopefully that clarifies it a bit.
  5. Our department snack station is located in my cubicle, because I’ve got extra space. My manager already knew of my surgery plans, but today I sent a team email that said, “as some of you know, but most of you don’t, I’m having gastric bypass next week. So- is it cool if we relocate the snacks?” This served to casually tell them something they would have noticed eventually and it got that delicious looking coffee cake someone brought in this morning the hell out of my face. 😂😂
  6. Ahhhh! I’m so happy for you and looking forward to my feet not aching so much if I walk too far! Actually- there are a million things I’m looking forward to!
  7. I am 9 days out and starting to go from nervous to excited! I am doing my best to stick to the pre-op diet. I’d like to shed these last six pounds before surgery and hopefully the pre-op diet will help with that! I finally formally requested leave from work, as my diet is pretty set in stone, provided that nothing comes up during pre-op testing, which is on Wednesday.

    SMH

Amen! Bunch of negative Nancys lately. Also- tbh the search function (at least on the iOS app) kind of sucks.

    Rate your recovery

Question- did you have the sleeve or the bypass? I take Wellbutrin XL and there is talk I should switch to the regular kind and take it twice a day, because I’m getting a bypass on 7/14 and there is concern about malabsorption of the xl kind. Super anxious about my mood stabilizer meds (cymbalta and Wellbutrin xl) not being effectively absorbed during a time that I’m certain I will be super emotional.
  10. I am going to a cookout and am on the pre-op diet. Will probably go for the leanest protein available and am bringing some veggies to throw on the grill so I know there will be something that’s pre-op diet approved for me to eat. Also drinking the hell out of some crystal light and water, because it’s a million degrees here. :)
  11. Paperwork has been submitted to insurance for approval and I am on day one of my pre-op diet. So. Very. Hungry. The food funerals over the last few days probably made today worse than it had to be.

    One Week Cigarette Free!

Oh man! The sleep appointment was booked so far out!!! Did you get put on their cancellation list? I did and ended up being able to go in a few weeks earlier. I’ll send you a PM with my Facebook info if you want to keep in touch or have any questions. 😀 the staff at Samaritan Bariatric are great and you’re in good hands!

    One Week Cigarette Free!

Haha wow! Small world indeed! I am going through Samaritan as well, but with Dr. Sanders. How far along are you in the process? I’m having surgery on the 17th and have completed all my requirements.

    I wanna have sex again.....

I also went ahead and got an IUD. I did not want to risk getting pregnant too soon after surgery. I had the Kyleena IUD placed two months ago. I’m not going to pretend it didn’t hurt like heck, but it was over quickly. Also- my first period since having it placed was about two and a half weeks. It was a little lighter than normal, but still required the use of a sanitary product. My gyn said it is completely common to have irregular or longer periods for the first 3 to 6 months. So I am crossing my fingers and hoping it gets shorter/lighter as time goes on!

    One Week Cigarette Free!

Oh my! Where in NY are you? I live upstate near Troy.

    One Week Cigarette Free!

The good news is I don’t think you can drink booze for awhile after the surgery so hopefully when you are out with them, your resolve is strong! I live in NY and there are so few places you can actually smoke and hardly any smokers it seems so avoiding opportunities to smoke has been relatively easy. 😂
  17. I tested positive and had to do 14days on antibiotics to clear it and then test again a month later. Will not impact insurance approval, but your surgeon will want you to clear it up and test negative before surgery, because h. Pylori causes stomach irritation and is a major cause of ulcers.

    Surgery day!!!!!!

Congrats! And wow! The fact that you feel well enough to post right after surgery is calming my nerves some!
  19. Oh wow! I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow!!!

    One Week Cigarette Free!

You will get there! This is legit the first time I ever seriously quit (& hopefully the last, too!) I’m 34 and I smoked for nearly 20 years. 😳😳. What was crazy is I dreaded quitting for years... and then I did it and after 3 days it got much easier. Beware of the terrible threes. The hardest times for me were 3 days, the third week, and the third month! Also, stay clear of alcohol. Alcohol makes you want to smoke and impairs your decision making to weaken your resolve. I used a mix of Wellbutrin and the Juul e-cig to quit. However, having to then quit nicotine in the electronic cigarette was another addiction I had to break- so it may be worth your while to vape nicotine free juice if you go that route. Good luck and you got this! I tell myself I’m not going to let cigarettes or nicotine be the reason why this doesn’t happen, because that would be a lame reason. If I legit do not want to go through with it that’s one thing, but letting cigarettes control my life? No way! Best wishes to you!

    One Week Cigarette Free!

I quit nearly six months ago, which led me to the decision to pursue this surgery! While I realize you can never say never, I really don’t *want* to be a smoker. It also helps that I hate the smell of smoke (yet I still get super jealous when I see someone smoking 🙄🙄). I read a statistic that people who go a year smoke free have a drastically increased chance of never smoking again... so I just keep telling myself I just need to make it to that year.
  22. Y’all... I had my last pre-op appointment today. Y’all y’all y’all! I am freaking out! My surgery is 21 days away. I am so anxious and nervous 😬 ... I start my two week liquid diet in a week. 😲😲😲
  23. Thank you for this! I’m obviously pretty anxious about the surgery. It is a very big deal and a lot to put myself through. And a lot of uncertainty if the same bad habits that got me to nearly 400lbs won’t come back. However, I try to remember why I am doing this. I am doing this so I improve my health and lower my risk for diabetes and other obesity related illnesses. I’m doing it, cause I’m dang tired of having to compensate or work around my weight/size. Simple tasks are sometimes not so simple when your body is just in the way. I’m tired of wondering if a chair is fat person friendly or if I will fit in spaces that are just not designed for someone my size. Some of these have already improved with the 70lbs I have lost up to this point through exercise and diet. However, every workout felt like a losing battle and I’m ready to tip the dang odds in my favor for once!
  24. Scheduled my pre-op nutrition class! It’s on Monday. I also have my last pre-op weigh in on Wednesday! Wooo!

    Don't pray for me

Your entire tone about this is demeaning and rude, tbh. Intolerance goes both ways. Live and let live, brah!
